Child Health and Disability Prevention

CHDP is a preventive health program serving children, siblings, and youth up to 18 years of age. Our target population is 1 year through 18 years of age.

CHDP is a financial need based program that makes early health

care available to children with health problems as well as to those who seem well.

Eligible children can receive periodic preventive health assessments

and referrals with free follow-up care when indicated. Basic to the program is the concept that many physical and mental

disabilities can be prevented, or their impact lessened, with early recognition and treatment of defects.

CHDP LAUSD is the largest school district CHDP provider in the state. We presently have 18 school nurse practitioners offering CHDP services in two ways: At permanent school clinic sites Selected elementary schools on a scheduled basis during the school year. We have 5 School Physicians providing CHDP services at clinic sites. Recent improvements to the program now allow children to pre-enroll for temporary full-scope Medi-Cal. It is a “Gateway” into permanent Medi-Cal and Healthy Families coverage

• Both were instrumental administratively in the establishment of the clinic.

• 1923 – Murchison Street Elementary School Established.

• 1942 – Ramona Gardens Public housing Development.

• Ramona Gardens: 32 acres, 500 units, over 100 buildings.

Michael Godfrey School Based Dental Clinic at Murchison Street Elementary School

2011 – HRSA Grant Center of Oral Health, Western College University of Dentistry unites with the Michael Godfrey School Based Health Center. A great need for dental services identified. Dental clinic established and services started (2011) with 1 dental chair.

Dental Services @ Murchison ES

Clinic hours: 8am-4pm Monday,Tuesday Services have expanded over the past 3 years. There are currently 3 dental chairs. There are Providers: 1 Dentist, Dental Residents,

Students, and 1 Dental Coordinator of services Last year, with the help of the Dental University, the L.A.

Trust for Children's Health, the dental clinic Screened 245 students at school in 2 days.
