Henley To friends and families, Thank you to the school community for your patience and understanding with regard to school fees for 2020. We have and continue to review fee outcomes for all classes. To date the school has removed the learning experiences fee for Term 2 due to the reduced camp and excursion program and has also not charged fees for our kindergarten program for Term 2 and Term 3. The learning experiences fee is the main fee where the school has some flexibility, however, these fees also cover IT costs, music, sports, software, library books and text books as well as excursions and camps. Some camps have been cancelled while others have been deferred such as the Year 8 Northern Territory camp and the Year 7 Tasmania camp. It is expected where possible in Term 4, that the school will try to undertake an out of classroom program or activity that is in line with Government guidelines and meets the intended learning outcomes. For Term 4 fees, primary school students (Prep – Class 6) learning experiences will not be charged. The school will reassess during Term 4 and if appropriate further adjustments will be made to fees (learning experiences only) at the end of the year. If you have any questions regarding fees or wish to discuss options for payment – please contact Andrew [email protected] or 5779 1445. Andrew Karzons Operations Manager

The MessengerTERM 3 WEEK 9 TUESDAY 8 SEPTEMBER 2020

Down in the earth in their dark Winter bed

Someone is calling, the crocus said.

In colours bright they quickly dressed,

In lavender, purple and gold of the best.

Then out in the grass they dance in a ring

And call to the children, “Come out! It is Spring.”

- H. Henley

To friends and families,

Thank you to the school community for your patience and understanding with regard to school fees for 2020.

YEAR 7

Year 7 have just finalised their Mechanics Main Lesson in which students used materials around the home to play with levers, pulleys, incline

planes and other simple machines. The Main Lesson finished with a competition to build a Rube Goldberg Machine that incorporated as many

simple machines as possible. One student briefly took over the kitchen table for his machine, but it all seemed worth it for the satisfying result!

- Josh Byrne (Year 7 Guardian)

CLASS 4 Class 4 have completed their Dreamtime Stories Main Lesson. They listened to various stories and then followed up with activities, written and creative work. Students made a mobile of black curlews and a hot air balloon. The balloon had flown them over country from where the stories were told. The students had to decorate their balloon in an Indigenous style and then make boomerangs and charred sticks.

- Linda Sampson (Class 4 Teacher)

CLASS 2Class 2 have been working on a cooking challenge. Last week they were given the task of cooking something that contains apples! They could choose between a favourite family dish or something new to be discovered. They then had to write out the recipe and send along a photo of their cooked dish.

There were some inventive offerings, like this delicious salted caramel apple – yum!

- Jacinta Walker (Class 2 Teacher)

MORNING STARMorning Star celebrated the beginning of spring with the creation of their very own spring fairy to add to their nature table. With a little help to guide their fingers, they used their diver dolphin stitch to sew their fairy’s dress. There were some very proud faces as they shared their creations.

- Sandi Valerio (Early Childhood Teacher)

IN THE GARDENIn the past week we have harvested parsley, cabbage, French sorrel coriander, kale, celery, spinach broccoli and kohlrabi from the school garden.

Meanwhile in the kitchen, Kai has a new recipe...

"Here's a fun recipe I used to make with my Mum as a kid... it's not very healthy so I experimented with healthier alternatives for some ingredients. Feel free to try variations of what you have in your pantry!"

PONDERING STEINEROur group have been finding a quiet place at home on Wednesday evenings to read a verse or lecture from Rudolf Steiner's vast archives.

We would like to suggest that any interested parents, grandparents or friends can 'meet' in this way, in the comfort of their own home, any time between 7pm and 9.30pm for some respite from the busy day.

Enquires welcome, Janina 0421812881.
