Parched. Sebastian, our Pekingese, started barking, then cowered under the dining table. What startled and frightened him were the loud peals of thunder and flashes of lightning as the storm began to dump much needed rain in San Angelo last night. This is the third significant rainfall San Angelo has had in less than two weeks. Already on one-on-one conversations and on Facebook you hear and read people's concerns about our lack of water. Like God is oblivious to our condition.

The Israelites grumbled and complained in the wilderness because they were afraid of what they thought was the uncertainty of God providing for them. They missed the consistency of their Egyptian cafeteria food. God provided them with the bread of angels every day. Then they complained about lack of meat. God provided them with quail. They complained about lack of water.

The Israelites saw the power of God in Egypt. They experienced walking on dry land with the massive walls of the Red Sea on either side of them. They saw God defeat the sophisticated Egyptian army pursuing them. And they still complained.

We are not much different. Continued on page 2

We see so much of God's goodness and grace and love and still we complain. Like the Israelites we tend to see only as far as our needs. We can't seem to lift our gaze to see the God who can meet all our needs and who had proven Himself faithful. We see our parched land. God sees our parched hearts.

“I also withheld the rain from you when there were yet three months to the harvest; I would send rain on one city, and send no rain on another city; one field would have rain, and the field on which it did not rain would wither; so two or three cities would wander to another city to drink water, and would not be satisfied; yet you did not return to me,” declares the LORD. Amos 4:7-8

Our greatest need is not for water. Our greatest need is to repent and turn back to the Lord. God dropped food from heaven. He made water gush forth out of a rock. He can make it rain so that our throats and the dry land can be refreshed. But more than that, He wants us to see Him for who He is and repent of our re-bellion and sins so that our hearts will be refreshed.

“For I will pour water on the thirsty ground and send streams coursing through the parched earth. I will pour my Spirit into your descendants and my blessing on your children. They shall sprout like grass on the prairie, like willows alongside creeks. This one will say, ‘I am GOD’s,’ and another will go by the name Jacob; That one will write on his hand ‘GOD’s property’— and be proud to be called Israel.”
