Calling all Cookie Bakers!

The Outreach Team needs your helpl We

are looking for three to four (or more!) peo-

ple who are willing to bake a “welcome” gift

for our first time guests. This can be cook-

ies, to muffins, to your favorite item to bake

and share! Our goal is to deliver a home-

made treat to our guests by the following

Tuesday/Wednesday after they have visited Hope UMC. Once we have our team

of bakers, we will contact you either the Sunday they visit or by the Monday after-

wards. We would take a plate of 6-12 cookies/muffins/etc. to our guests depend-

ing on the size of their family.

And, if baking isn’t your thing, we still need our entire church family’s help to not

only make our guest feel welcome at worship, but to also reach out and greet

them again - - wherever you run into them in the community. And… don’t forget

to invite them back to worship again! After all, it’s always easier to come when

you know there’s a friend waiting for you!

Mark your calendars for some fun and fellowship! We

are planning to go to the movie, Ocean's 8, Sunday,

July 8th at 7:00. We will meet at Pizza Ranch at 5:00.

We have invited our Lutheran friends so I hope we

have a good turn out! If any questions, call Ginger or John & Martie.

Help and Healing from the HUMC library

When God doesn’t Make Sense

by Dr. James Dobson

This book deals unflinchingly with life’s most troubling question—the awesome “Why?” Drawing on his long experience as a Chris-tian psychologist and family counselor, Dr. Dobson brings hope to those who have almost given up.

Life is Tough but God is Faithful:

How to See God’s Love in Difficult Times

by Sheila Walsh

Sheila looks at thirteen crucial turning points that can help you rediscover God's love and forgiveness. Showing how the choices you make affect your life, she offers insights from the book of Job, from her own life, and from the lives of

people whose simple but determined faith helped them become shining lights in a dark world.

Harsh Grief Gentle Hope

by Mary A. White

Author Mary White found herself struggling with an unending stream of painful questions and a powerful, agonizing grief in the wake of per-sonal loss. She shares with the reader her search for answers that would help her make sense out of a senseless act.

Leadership Team Meeting pg 1

Leadership Team Meeting

June 14, 2018, 7:00 p.m.

Friendship Room

Pocahontas Center

Attendance: Pastor Kris, Sharon Hauswirth, Carol Hallman, Brad Cook, Allan Frevert, Melissa Rahn, Vicki Kerns, Elaine Cook, Linda Ferguson, Gary Zhorne, Candace Larson, Moira Hopkins, Joan Reinhart, Donnie McLain, and Judy Timan.

Sharon called the meeting to order and opened with a devotion and prayer.

The minutes were read silently. A correction to the May minutes was made regarding pastor’s salary in the SPRC report. Corrected it reads, “The salary for the year of 2018 will be $54,000.” Brad moved and Carol seconded to approve the minutes as corrected. Ayes all.

Allan gave the treasurer’s report. 2018 apportionments and district askings are paid through May. Ending balance: $34,372.76. One air-conditioner unit will be replaced for $4500. This will be paid out of the cash fund. He then moved and Elaine seconded to approve the treas-urer’s report. Ayes all.

Allan then moved that the finance committee be combined with the leadership team and eliminate the finance committee as a separate committee. This way more people are involved in making financial decisions. The church treasurer will give the monthly financial report. Sharon gave additional insight into this recommendation. Elaine seconded the motion. Ayes all.

Ministry Team Reports

Trustees – Brad reported. Some major capitol improvement projects are coming up including sewer and roof work. Brad is putting together a list of needs and getting figures for the costs involved. These will be presented at the next meeting of the Leadership Team.

Education – Moira reported. Plans for VBS are being finalized. The team from Ingham Bible Camp will arrive June 24th. Tim and Elaine Cook and Donna Hudson are hosting the team members. The Bon Voyage party is Thursday evening, June 28th.

Outreach & Member Care – Elaine reported. The committee is looking at doing a new picture directory. The church banner will be hanging in the tent during Heritage Days.

Page 12: The Messenger 2018

Worship – Carol reported. She encouraged small groups and individuals prepare special mu-sic for worship during the summer months.

Missions – Judy reported. 12 cleaning buckets and 12 layettes were taken to Annual Confer-ence for delivery to Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Illinois. Pastor Kris added that they also take bicycles and sewing machines (both treadle and older electric machines) – something to think about for next year. There are changes for Ingathering kits which will be in the July Messenger. Donnie moved and Joan seconded to pay the Kies our 2018 missionary support.

UMW – Joan reported. The next UMW luncheon is June 21with Peace Circle serving.

SPRC – Linda reported. A meeting is scheduled in late summer.

Pastor’s Report – Pastor Kris reported. This Annual Conference was very positive and a fun experience. There was less dissension and more discussion. She expressed appreciation for Carol McCurdy’s attending as the delegate from our church and her attention to the legislative matters.

Donnie moved and Gary seconded the motion to adjourn. Ayes all.

The next meeting will be July 12th, 7 p.m.

Pastor Kris closed with prayer.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Timan
