. Dear Friends, While reading snippets of some online devotional material that I typically don’t pay much attention to, my attention was drawn to a passage from the prophet Isai-ah:
On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. (7) And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. (8) Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken. (9) It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.
-Isaiah 25:6-9 NRSV The above passage is the ultimate picture of God’s goodness — people sitting to-gether, sharing food, engaging in a community of God’s children. It is the picture that Jesus lived out during his time on earth, and what he calls all of us to do. It can be tempting to see Isaiah 25:6-9 as a picture of just the future kingdom of God. In reality, it is a picture of what Jesus brought when he walked on the Earth, of what he is bringing in the present, and what he will continue to bring in the future. Jesus lived the ideals spoken of by the prophet in verse six — he ate and drank with any-one regardless of background, and he destroyed the idea that we should cast out sinners; an idea that hung around the Jews like a veil. It is both an incredible and wonderful image. Over the years, I have been challenged by what William C. Placher, professor of philosophy and religion at Wabash College, said about Jesus’ death. Along with God’s swallowing up of death, Isaiah noted that God would also wipe the tears off faces and, Placher says, “since Christ occupies the place of sin, the good news is that there is no place for sinners to go where they will be apart from God … for Christians the condemnation of sinners is no longer possible without condemning Christ.” Let’s face it, we have all, myself included, been guilty at one time or an-other of the condemnation of sinners, and when we have done that, we have con-demned Christ. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO VIDEO RECORD
10 AM SERVICES
FUMC is currently exploring video recording of parts of the 10:00 AM worship service to be loaded up onto our web page, social media, as well as possibly make available to shut-ins who don’t have internet access. In order to make this happen there has to be a lot of coordination and some training, but first we need as many as four volunteers to actually run the camera on Sunday mornings. This would be similar to running the sound board where we have four people rotate so each person gets about one Sunday per month. If you are interested in volunteering for this position please contact me either by email or in person. Thank you, John Wilderman [email protected]
.CRAFTERS/VENDORS WANTED
We are looking for Crafters and Vendors to join us Saturday September 8th from 9:00 – 2:00 for a Craft/Vendor Festival in the Church parking lot. The Church will also be serving lunch along with a book sale, food sale, and Jo-Ann’s product sale. It is important that we contact Crafters and Vendors early so they can reserve our date. We all know Crafters and Vendors who go to these fairs all the time. We need to get them to come to our event and now is the time to contact them and commit to our date. Please tell people you may know about this event and let them know that they can sign up for a spot. Forms will be available in the Church office or they can contact Don Raab (603-332-3172). Members of the Church are also encouraged to reserve a spot.
Many of you are crafters or sell products and I encourage you to con-sider joining us. All proceeds from this event will go to the General Fund of the Church.

SAVE THESE DATES !!!
Saturday, August 25 at 7:05 PM. "Faith and Family" night
with the Manchester Fisher-Cat's. Our choir will be singing
the National Anthem prior to the game. The team hosts a
few of these themed nights each summer with the focus on
bringing faith communities of NH together for an afternoon
of Q and A about the players faith, as well as a chance to fel-
lowship as a church along with other church communities.
Soulfest is sponsoring other entertainment and the team
reached out to us first with the National Anthem option once
they learned we were celebrating 150 years in our current
building. Starting in June, we have 50 tickets available
(option for more as needed) at $9.00 each in section 107.
That is $3.00 less than other games. More details coming
next month.
October 21-26, 2018. Temple Church, London, Boy-
Choristers on tour in Northeast. Roger Sayer is leading the
choir on their first ever tour to the Northeast. This historic
church in the heart of London dates back to the late 1100's.
The Knights Templar built their London spiritual home mod-
eled after the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem that
is built in the shape of a circle. It is the church where the
document known as the "Magna-Carta" was first negotiated
and then ratified by the Barons and King John subjecting the
King (Crown) to be subject to a charter (1214-1225). 500
plus years later our Constitution was written with the Magna-
Carta looming large. Seven of the original signers of the
Constitution were members of the "Inner or Middle Courts"
and would have worshipped at the Temple Church in London.
The boys will be home-hosted by our church family, and give
concerts in Concord, Portland, Portsmouth, and of course here
at FUMC.

FROM THE PASTOR (continued from page #2)
Therefore, as lovers of Jesus, who has called us to follow him, to feast with all people of all backgrounds, and to be part of a commu-nity that walks apart from the all-too-deceptive cloud of exclusion, may we do so together. In the midst of this crazy, chaotic socio-economic and political climate of condemnation and injustice from all sides of the spectrum, let us walk in faith and love. The words related in Isaiah as a future hope are made a present reality in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Peace and love, Pastor Jeff

UMCOR SCHOOL BAGS THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED
Thank you to all who helped to make it possible for us to create and fill 50 school bags for United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). After dedication on June 10th they were ready for their trip to New England An-nual Conference held in Manchester and then on to PA to be ready for ship-ments to areas in need around the world. It was possible to fill all the bags with the required items because the items were purchased last summer during the back- to-school sales. Once again the mission of the month for July and August will be to get ready for the UMCOR school bag project next May by stocking up on supplies during this summer’s back to school sales. Items needed are: Boxes of 24 crayons Blunt children’s scissors Pencil sharpeners 1 subject spiral notebooks Unsharpened #2 pencils 12 “ rulers with centimeter marks
Each shipment must contain the same type items in the bags because of shipping regulations.
Thank you!

Theme: Because we are all children of the living God who have been re-deemed by Christ, we are no longer strangers. Let us make sure there are no strangers in our midst, but rather make sure we welcome others to build the body of Christ.
Date: July 29 Detail: 10th Sunday after Pentecost Texts: Ephesians 3:14-21 Title: Be Filled By God Theme: Paul encourages the church to allow Christ to dwell in our hearts; to be “filled by the fullness of God” - to the point of overflowing. This will enable us to always be rooted and grounded in love always. The Ephesians were encouraged to be strengthened by God’s Spirit, so that God’s power and love may be comprehended - and shared.
Date: August 5 Detail: 11th Sunday after Pentecost, Sacrament of Holy Communion Texts: Ephesians 4:1-16 Title: Equip the Saints Theme: How do we lead lives worthy of our calling? How do we show the grace we have received? By conducting ourselves with humility, gentleness, patience, and love. By living as one body, one spirit. By building ourselves up in love. This is how we are equipped to serve.
Date: August 12 Detail: 12th Sunday after Pentecost Texts: Ephesians 4:25-5:2 Title: Be Imitators of God Theme: There are many comedians who make a living do-ing imitations of famous people for laughs. It is funny because it is not real. Imitating God in Christ is serious business. This isn’t about entertainment, it is about sharing the fullness of God’s love and grace in Christ with everyone.. Let us commit ourselves to such attributes as unconditional love, sinlessness, forgiveness, and kindness.
Date: August 19 Detail: 13th Sunday After Pentecost, Worship on the Commons 10:30AM (8:30 service in chapel) Texts: Ephesians 5:15-20 Title: Be Disciplined Theme: John and Charles Wesley, along with other early “Methodists” prac-ticed spiritual disciplines in a very “methodical” way. However, that was not a Wesleyan concept. It was a Pauline concept. Careful living in the fullness of the Spirit as a response of thankfulness to God was, and still is, important to the faithful Christian. Date: August 26 Detail: 14th Sunday After Pentecost Texts: Ephesians 6:10-20 Title: Stand Strong Theme: Paul reminds us that there are going to be those who stand against Christ, for his is not “the way of the world.” Because of this, we who claim the name of Jesus will need to stand strong in the face of the enemy. We can do so because we are equipped with the “armor of God:” truth, righteous-ness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Holy Spirit! During the month of September I will be preaching a series of sermons based on the book of James called “Practical Faith.” Stay tuned...
14
Worship Planning - July and August Date: July 1 Detail: 6th Sunday after Pentecost, Holy Communion Texts: 2 Corinthians 8:7-15; Mark 5:21-43 Title: First Aid Theme: Where do we turn in times of trial? In Mark’s Gospel, both the leader of the synagogue and the woman with the issue of blood turn to Jesus for healing. And since the Christian community is the body of Christ, Paul invites us to turn to one another in our need; and when others turn to us, Paul urges us to respond with love and generosity.
Date: July 8 Detail: 7th Sunday after Pentecost, Sacrament of Baptism for Eleanor Henderson, Worship on the Commons at 10:30 AM (the 8:30 service remains as is) Texts: 2 Corinthians 12:2-10; Mark 6:1-13 Title: Service to God Theme: Godly leadership is measured in terms of justice, righteousness, and ser-vice. When Jesus’ gifts and leadership were rejected in Nazareth, he moved on, heading to other towns and villages. In so doing, he fulfilled his service to God and taught his disciples to do the same. When Paul reflected on his calling, he saw that his weakness required him to put his trust in Christ, which in turn allowed God’s power to lay claim on his life, as he served in Christ’s name. We all are called to such servant leadership—leadership that brings justice and righteousness to God’s world.
July 15, 22, 29, August 5, 12, 19, Summer Sermon Series: “Paul’s Advice for the Next 150 Years” based on passages found in Paul’s Letter to the Ephesians. As we celebrate our 150th year in our present sanctuary, Paul’s advice to the Church is as relevant to us today as it was 150 years ago, and to the Church in Ephesus way back in the first century.
Date: July 15 Detail: 8th Sunday after Pentecost Texts: Ephesians 1:3-14 Title: Be a Blessing Theme: Being heirs of Christ does not always mean life is rosy and easy. Some-times we are called to sacrifice and suffering. Even still we are redeemed and adopted by the living God, and because we are recipients of these blessings, we are called to be a blessing to others.
Date: July 22 Detail: 9th Sunday after Pentecost Texts: Ephesians 2:11-22 Title: No Strangers Here

FUMC Heritage Happenings
A big change came about during the last month to the storage closet at the end of the hall behind the kitch-en, a place that many of you didn’t know existed. The last vestige of the original 1910 kitchen has been re-moved. Here is what it looked like before the removal and renovation of the area.
The area is used to store non-perishable food for the Soup Kitchen and to hold the large freezer for perishable food but had become insufficient for our needs. Dan Saucier and his crew took on the task of removing the cabinets, repairing and painting the walls and ceiling, se-curing the window, and installing a new floor to match the level of the hallway floor. Their goal was to provide adequate storage space for all of the foodstuff that was previously stored in the basement.

FUMC Heritage Happenings (cont.)
With the increased storage space on the first floor, the basement door can now be locked. Soup Kitchen workers will no longer have to traverse the narrow stairway and duck under the low beams to retrieve food from the basement. The basement will also be off limits to those who should not be there.
Here are a couple of pictures of the finished area.
When you see Dan or any of his crew (Bob Walker, Jennifer Saucier, Sam Tweedy) make sure to thank them for a job well done!

Anyone who took pictures of the rededication of Hurd Hall ceremony, please mail copies to me at [email protected] I know there were pictures taken but do not remember who was taking them. Thank you!

PUZZLE PAGE Can you find 16 Books of the Bible in this paragraph?
I once made a remark about the hidden books of the
Bible. It was a lulu, kept people looking so hard for
facts and for others it was a revelation. Some were in
a jam, especially since the names of the books were
not capitalized, but truth finally struck home to num-
bers of readers. To others it was a real job. We want
it to be a most fascinating few moments for you. Yes,
there will be some really easy ones to spot. Others
may require judges to help them. I will quickly admit it
usually takes a minister to find one of them, and there
will be loud lamentations when it is found. A little lady
says she brews a cup of tea so she can concentrate
better. See how well you can compete. Relax now,
for there are sixteen names of the Bible in this story.
