    . ;ff McCpnneU, a 6'7" senior from Wilmington, Delaware, hasin ramed by Dick Fox as the captainforthe Laker Basketballteam for the im-74 seaso a "Stretch" w as an All-State and All-Conference performer at Concord fHigh in Wilmington. He performed for one year at Brandywine Junior College before transferring to Mercyhurst where he started in ten games in hissophomore year. During the final five games of that campaign he

    averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds per game. Last season, Jeffprovided valuable backup strength at both the forward and guardpositions. During his two yea r stmt, he h as av eraged 6.2 points pergame and over 5 rebounds per contest. A game co-captain will benamed to assist "Stretch " for each outing. Jeff along with his dutiesfor the Lakers, is also the captain of a household. He is married tothe former Kathy Hagins and is the proud father of their first child,Kelly. I i I 3 1The Mercyhurst Laker basketball team will play three of its tenhome games in the soon-to-be-finished Erie County Fieldhouse. Theannouncement was made recently by Athletic Director Dick Foxand John D. Moriarity, General Manager of the new structure. Theprima ry function of the new fieldhouse will be to house the v arioushockey team s in the Erie a rea . These include the Eri e Hockey LionsSenior team and the Junior A team and also the Youth HockeyProgram . The Lakers' first appearance at the new facility will beagainst Slippery Rock Sta te College on Janu ary 31,1974. The Rockdefeated Mercyhurst twice last season, 78-66 and 70-68, the latterbeing in the D-18 championship game . They eventually went on to afourth plac e finish in the N.A.I.A. National Championship in KansasCity, losing in the semifinals ^ to Maryland-Eastern shore, |th eeventual tournamen t winner. The other two games at Route 8 and I-90 will be played against Hillsdale College and Frostburg State. Ofthe remaining seven games on the Lakers' home slate, three wifl beplayed a t Gannon Auditorium, and the remaind er will be played a tour beloved home, Tech Memorial.
