Cancer Awareness Month

By Lucas B

Sadly, cancer is still here today and scientists are continuing to work to find the cure. So many families have been affected by it and that is a horrible thing. People around the world are dying from this dis-ease. Well what is causing it you may ask, your answers is as follows;

What is cancer and what causes it? Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrollable amount of abnor-mal cells duplicating in various parts of the body. ‘What causes cancer?’ Gene mutations in most cases can cause Cancer. Most gene mutations happen after you're born. A ton of things can cause gene muta-tions, such as smoking, radiation, cancer-causing chemicals, and a lack of exercise.

How does Cancer affect us at Bradley?

Here at Bradley almost all of us have or had a loved one who either lost or won the battle against cancer. Earlier this month we held a fundraiser for cancer, in this fundraiser students and teachers bought bubble gum and a pink ribbon that is posted on the wall all across our school. The teachers bought and wore pink t-shirts and for our school spirit week we have a pink day where everyone wears pink. The students and teachers thank everyone who took part in the fundraiser and the pink day.

Spirit Links

By: Josh T

Why are we doing the spirit links? We are the doing the spirit links to raise money for cancer awareness and the money will be going to a cancer research facility for donation. The spirit links are $ .50 cent for 1 spirit link so if you bring in $ 1.00 it will be 2 spirit links. The class that brings in the most spirit links receives a donut party. Everything ends on October 21.

Advice For 6th Graders

By: Julia T.

Transitioning from elementary school to middle school is one of the hardest

things during your academic career. If you leave a good first impression in 6th

grade, 7th and 8th grade will be a breeze. Remember to be prepared and orga-

nized because it will set you up for success in the next two years of middle

school and into high school and later college. Respect teachers and peers be-

cause you don't want to be treated poorly your entire middle school career. Don't

be nervous because if you pay attention and do everything you're asked, it'll be

A GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!

Bradley Cheer

By: Brooke N.

The process of trying out for the Bradley cheer team is both stressful and very fun. The cheer coach, Ms. Patton, if you don’t know, is one of the 8th grade math teachers. The cheer tryouts are usually around the second week of school and last 3 days. If you are interested in trying out for cheer but you don’t want to cheer for both fall and winter; your in luck because you can try out for both the fall and winter cheer teams separately. The first day of cheer tryouts was definitely the most stressful because I didn’t know what to expect. You will walk in the dance room and everyone trying out will be there. Ms. Patton will introduce herself and give you an idea of what to expect. Then you will start learning the cheer and dance. You will do the cheer and dance the first day which is the official day of tryouts. The cheer will consist of a routine of motions along with a chant of words you will say to each motion. Then you will also learn a dance to a song of Ms. Patton's choice. You most likely won’t finish learning both the first day so that’s what the second day entails. The second day is the most boring day because it’s kind of a day to just finish learning the cheer, dances, and asking any last minute questions before tryouts. By the second day people really aren’t nervous but ready to get the tryouts over with. You will get put into groups based on your last name. Then within your group you will get to decide what color you want to wear for tryouts. Now it’s tryout day you will come in and go straight to Ms. Patton's classroom. There will be 5 random judges along with Ms. Patton. They will call your group in and then they will tell you one by one to do jumps. After jumps its time do to tumbling, then the cheer, and finally, the dance. You will find out about a hour after tryouts if you made it or not. You will have practice the next day!

Don't think that 8th grade is the year, where you turn up, lay back and have liberty. In reality, we don’t get so much liberty and we do a lot of work. One of the many expectations, most of us have is having free time, and more trust with the teachers. Sadly, in reality, you have to earn all of the trust and the liberty has to be earned with free time. Another expec-tation is the laid back part and that it's all turning up. In reality, you have a lot of work and we have to get on task and only have a specific amount time to hang out with your friends.

Getting to Know Students By: Katheryn C. and Emma G.

I thought 6th grade would be fun but it turns out is wasn’t what I thought. You have to change classes it's more difficult than what you are use to. You have to be more responsible than ever and you have to keep up with your work. The teachers won't hold your hand! You have to make sure you get your work if you missed a day or two. You have to act like an adult. You can't just decide not to do your work one day because you're mad or upset. The teachers are getting you ready for high school and real life!

HistoryofHalloweenBy: Hayley L.

Halloweens origin started with the ancient Celtic festival Samhain. It marked the beginning of Winter and the end of harvest.

It was also believed that on that night the “spirit” and “mortal” world would open to each other, sort of relating to the day of

the dead in Hispanic culture. During the Protestant Reformation, the holiday was banned in the church. The banned time of

the year passed, for many years, and almost everyone seemed to have forgotten except for the Celts of course. In America, we

started doing our own thing (like a spin off of the holiday while dressing up and giving out candy). Soon, all communities

were celebrating.
