PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

March: When Hope Springs Eternal

March is the season when daylight becomes so abun-dant that the federal government insists that we ‘save’ one hour for the next several months. Of course, we eventually have the ‘saved’ hour returned in the fall.

This is also the time when flower and vegetable seed packets fill the box stores with abundant options for our gardens. Garden centers are also filled with seed-lings which will eventually be transplanted into our yards and gardens to provide color or provide fresh vegetables for our tables in the summer.

Minnesota Master Gardeners receive technical infor-mation from the University of Minnesota Extension specialists. They then provide technical assistance for aspiring gardeners as well as experienced gardeners who are trying to solve issues dealing with: soils, fertil-ity imbalances, plant selection, insect and plant disease issues, or cases of poor pollination.

The photosynthetic process makes sugars using carbon dioxide (CO2), water, and sunlight. This process is remarkable and totally awesome!!! I hope you can en-joy the photosynthetic experience in your own way (eating an apple pie, smelling a bouquet of lilac flowers, seeing an array of tulips, or feeling the smooth texture of a fine piece of wood). Enjoy the upcoming spring season!!!!!!!!!! David Freund, President

position with Norwest Bank. Later Norwest Bank and Wells Fargo merged and she worked in a Wells Fargo office until she retired.

Pam has been married to her husband Rich for 18 years. She really enjoys the freeway system which allows her to go anywhere within a few minutes (weather permitting) and participate in the wide vari-ety of area activities. She has a new 2-month old granddaughter which she loves to babysit.

May 21--They were so popular last year, that we’ve asked the Westview choir and our own Apple Valley Seniors Line Danc-ers to entertain us again. We’re serving meat lasagna, garlic breadsticks, Caesar salad, and Neapolitan ice cream with small cookies. June 18--This year we’re hoping the weather cooperates so we can have a picnic in the beautiful park at the Ameri-can Legion Post 1776. We’re hoping to have those wonderful musicians from Apple Valley High School’s Rhythm & Blues Jazz Band to entertain us. Stay tuned for confirmation! July, 16--It’s time for our annual Mystery Trip, and since this is a secret, you know we can’t tell you very much just yet. That would spoil the fun! Put the date on your calendar and be sure to sign up ear-ly--space is limited! August 20--We had so much fun last year that we’re going back to Caspers in Eagan. We’ll provide entertainment, but you order your own choice from a short-er menu and pay your own tab. Space is limited, so we do need to have you regis-ter. September, 17--They’re coming back! The Looney Lutherans will entertain us, and House of Coates will bring their broasted chicken!

YELLOWSTONE TRAIL PRESENTATION

You’ve certainly heard of “Route 66” and probably the Lincoln Highway, but have you heard of the Yellowstone Trail? The Yellowstone Trail, or highway, was the first transcon-tinental highway in the northern United States. The Yellowstone Trail ran from Plymouth Rock, MA to Seattle, WA. The major-ity of AVS members are from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas. The Yellowstone Trail transected all of these states and had a major impact on them. There’s a good chance the Yellowstone Trail even passed through some of your home towns and cities.

We’ll view some maps in order to “get our bearings”, check out some facts and statistics, watch a 20 minute video produced by the Yellowstone Trail Associa-tion and then have an open dis-cussion.

· Please bring any Yellow-stone Trail knowledge you have to share.

· Please sign up in the Coffee

Thinking of Moving Out of Your Home?

Many of us are nearing the point where our current home is starting to be more than we can manage. We’ve also seen a few friends have to make immediate moves due to changing medi-cal needs & we want to proceed prior to this if possible to lessen stress.

Come listen, share thoughts, or ask questions that may help with your decision.

Carol Geiger, who has already relocated, & Joan Freund, currently in the process, will lead the discussion by sharing what needs factored into their decisions.

Also welcome are members who have already moved & will share what they did right or what would be a ‘do over’ if possible.

In January of 2019, we had 32 people sign up for FMSC! That was a pretty nice turn out. The total number of people at

FMSC that day was only 69, so we had almost half of the people there. The results were: 124 boxes packed – AVS 54! Meals packed: 26,784. This is enough to feed 73 starving kids for entire year! If we would have had one more person from the Ap-ple Valley Seniors helping, 74 kids would have had food for a year! Your help will feed kids!!! We have future dates planned: March 21st, April 18th, May 16th, June 20th We meet in the coffee lounge at 11:30am and drive up together or you can meet us at FMSC, at Noon (990 Lone Oak Road #136, Eagan, MN 55121) The big question that remains is - Will you be helping us pack FOOD AND save STARVING KIDS?

Please sign up in the Coffee Lounge at least one week prior to the packing date.
