• The women did various things during the war. They took care of the home, farm, and children. They also were spies and nurses.

• The life of a soldier was tough and a test of their strength. Years away from home, inadequate food and shelter, disease, hot summers and cold winters.

• The soldiers called the tents they lived in “dog” tents.• The drums were a major part of the war. From wake up

calls, to breakfast calls, to drill calls.• The amount of baggage the soldiers carried varied. A

Southern soldier typically carried less then a Northern soldier. This is because the Southern soldier didn’t have as much available to him.
