THE LORD’S DAY - MARCH 15 - 11:00 AM

CELEBRATING CHRIST - EQUIPPING THE CHURCH - ENGAGING THE WORLD

A WORD TO THE WORSHIA WORD TO THE WORSHIA WORD TO THE WORSHIA WORD TO THE WORSHIPPERPPERPPERPPER

T he epic feature film “Unbroken” focuses on Louis Zamperini's childhood, Olympic adventures, and survival as a POW during WWII. It does not portray his salvation experience during a 1949 Billy Graham crusade in Los Angeles. Before his death, he spoke of regretting what he considered a lack of follow through on his POW experience: “All I did was pray to God, every day. In prison camp, the main prayer was, 'Get me home alive, God, and I'll seek you and serve you.' I came home, got wrapped up in the celebration, and forgot about the hundreds of promises I'd made to God.” Today in worship we will focus on prayer through Christ our Mediator, prayer that is pleasing in the sight of God.

Assisting in Worship: ANDY LEWIS, Senior Pastor MARK REED, Assistant Pastor STEVE LAWTON, Director of Music and Worship (8:45) RITA HASSIG, Organist (8:45) JERED MCKENNA, Worship Leader (11:00)

W elcome to our worship service! We pray for the Lord’s rich blessing on all who are visiting with us this morning. Please take a moment to complete a connection card found at the Information Desk. If you are able to stay for a Sunday school community at 9:50 am, it would be a great way to get acquainted. Opportunities for corporate prayer include Evensong, Community Groups, and Wednesday night prayer meeting.

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive

without breathing… Prayer is a strong wall and fortress of the church;

it is a goodly Christian weapon. Martin Luther

Prayer does not change God, but it changes him who prays.

Søren Kierkegaard

THE LORD’S DAYTHE LORD’S DAYTHE LORD’S DAYTHE LORD’S DAY MARCH 15, 2015

For there is one God, and there is one mediator

between God and men, the man Christ Jesus… I Timothy 2:5

THE SERVICE OF PREPARATION AND PRAISE THE PRELUDE *THE HYMNS OF ENTRANCE Arise, my soul, arise, shake off your guilty fears; The bleeding sacrifice, in my behalf appears; Before the throne my Surety stands, Before the throne my Surety stands, My name is written on his hands. Five bleeding wounds he bears, received on Calvary; They pour effectual prayers, they strongly plead for me: "Forgive him, O forgive," they cry, "Forgive him, O forgive," they cry, "Nor let that ransomed sinner die!"

Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise Arise, my soul, arise. Arise (arise), arise (arise), arise Arise, my soul, arise. Shake off your guilty fears and rise

My God is reconciled; his pardoning voice I hear; He owns me for his child, I can no longer fear; With confidence I now draw nigh, With confidence I now draw nigh, And "Father, Abba, Father!" cry. Words: Charles Wesley, Public Domain, 1742 Music: © 1996 Kevin Twit Music, Song No. 2570138, CCLI License No. 789870 Hallelujah, praise Jehovah! O my soul, Jehovah praise; I will sing the glorious praises of my God thru all my days. Put no confidence in princes, nor for help on man depend; He shall die to dust returning, and his purposes shall end. Food He daily gives the hungry, sets the mourning prisoner free; Raises those bowed down with anguish, makes the sightless eyes to see. Well Jehovah loves the righteous, and the stranger He befriends, Helps the fatherless and widow, judgment on the wicked sends. Hallelujah, praise Jehovah! O my soul, Jehovah praise; I will sing the glorious praises of my God thru all my days. Over all God reigns forever, through all ages He is King; Unto Him, thy God, O Zion, joyful hallelujahs sing. Words: William Kirkpatrick, Public Domain, 1899 Music: Darwin Jordan © 1987 Lorenz Publishing, Song No. 2701756, CCLI No. 789870

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! *THE PRAYER OF ADORATION

THE SERVICE OF COMMITMENT AND RENEWAL

THE CALL TO REPENTANCE AND FAITH Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

THE PSALM OF COMFORT Our mouths, they were filled, filled with laughter, Our tongues, they were loosed, loosed with joy. Restore us, O Lord! Restore us, O Lord! Although we are weeping, Lord help us keep sowing, The seeds of your Kingdom for the day we will reap them! Your sheaves we will carry: Lord, please do not tarry! All those who sow weeping will come home with songs of joy! The nations will say, “He has done great things!” The nations will sing songs of joy. Restore us, O Lord! Restore us, O Lord! Music: Isaac Wardell © 2013, Used by Permission THE PRAYERS OF CONFESSION Lord God, our hearts and minds are filled up with many things— but not what you have commanded. Our daily lives are filled up with many practices— but not those we have learned from your Word. As a result, there is little of your perfect peace in our lives. For the sake of your Son, hear our silent prayers of confession. (silence is kept)

THE WORDS OF GRACE AND PEACE I Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

*THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Hebrews 1:3-4 The brightness of God’s glory, Christ, the mirror of God’s face. He upholds the world By the power of his hand. He has cleansed us from our sinning, And he sits upon the throne, With the majesty and the glory of our God. His name is greater than the angels; Greater than the angels, He is greater than the angels above. Music: Jered McKenna © 2013

*THE PULPIT HYMN Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of God is on you. Arise, see when the earth grows dark that the Lord will arise upon you. Nations will come to your light; Lift up your eyes and see. We'll gather together and come to you, And your love will be all that we know. Arise, come to the open gates, for the Father is welcoming you. Fear not, for the Lord brings peace and redemption to all who believe. The sun will not shine cause you'll be all the light that we need . And violence will end all the wars that we wage will cease. We will glorify your name We will glorify your name. Words: from Isaiah 60. Music: Jered McKenna © 2013

THE SERVICE OF THE WORD

THE SCRIPTURE LESSON I TIMOTHY 2:1-7 1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. 7 For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
