Dear Parishioner,

Divine revelation - God’s making Himself known

to us - is especially strong on this feast of our Lord’s

Baptism. It is the first time that God reveals Himself as

Trinity: the voice of the Father, the dove of the Holy Spirit,

descending over Jesus the Son. Through our own Baptism

and Confirmation, the indwelling of the Holy Trinity within

us takes place. We should be ever aware of the temples of

our human bodies wherein the Trinity dwells.

Today’s feast marks the end of the Christmas

Season (Advent started Nov. 30th and the season ends

today): Ordinary Time resumes tomorrow and lasts until the

beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 18th. Some

other significant dates:

Palm Sunday - March 29

Easter - April 5

Ascension Thursday - May 14

Pentecost - May 24

Ordinary Time resumes - May 25

First Sunday of Advent 2015 - Nov. 29

† † † † † † † † † † † †

2015 will be a significant year for us Catholics.

The media is already agog about possible presidential

candidates of the major parties for 2016 and certain

Catholic concerns are sure to be raised. Among other

events this year are included: Pope Francis visit in the Fall

to the Meeting of Families in Philadelphia with possible

stops in New York and Washington; Pope Francis

anticipated encyclical on the Environment; the future of

Catholics in the Ukraine; the thaw in US - Cuba relations;

the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta; the 100th

anniversary of the Armenian genocide . . . ..

Speaking in London in 2010, Pope Benedict

referred to: “the purifying and structuring role of reason in

relation to religion. This is why I would suggest that the

world of reason and the world of faith should not be afraid

to enter into a profound and ongoing dialogue, for the good

of our civilization”. John Wallis wrote in 1859:

“Catholicism is an atmosphere and not a mere creed, a

medium which colors everything which comes before us,

except pure mathematics”.

It’s always interesting to be a Catholic and the year

2015 should be most interesting.

Sincerely in Christ,

Msgr. Desmond

SAINT ALOYSIUS

“GIVING TREE’

In the spirit of Christmas and

the spirit of giving to others our

Faith Community has always

responded with wonderful

contributions. Our annual

Giving Tree is no exception.

We receive a tremendous amount of gifts but what

strikes me as the real spirit of giving is the beautiful

way in which all gifts are wrapped and presented.

Those wrapped gifts speak volumes of not only giving

but of real caring. Thank you one and all! The

monetary donations and extra gift cards enable us to

continue throughout the year to extend the giving. The

recipients of our gifts this year were: in Newark Saint

John’s, Saint Augustine and Saint Columba. We also

sent our donations to Saint Peter’s Orphanage in

Denville, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Armed

Forces in Deployment; Saint Joseph, Totowa; Marian

Manor and Saint Catherine Health Care and Convent

both in Caldwell and families of Saint Aloysius Parish.

A monetary donation will be sent to Catholic Charities.

On behalf of all these recipients “Thank you” God’s

blessings on each of you in 2015!

Sr. Justine & Members of Social Concerns Ministry
