The Lord’s Day AUGUST 16, 2020 11:00 a.m. GREETINGS CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. David Hall *HYMN Our God, Our Help in Ages Past#30 *INVOCATION *CONFESSION OF SIN: (Unison) Psalm 51:1-5, 7, 9-12, 17 Be gracious to me, O God, according to your loving kindness; according to the greatness of your compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, I have sinned, and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are justified when you speak, and blameless when you judge. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain me with a willing spirit…The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. *ASSURANCE OF PARDON: Psalm 103:8-12 The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. *HYMN OF AFFIRMATION Arise, My Soul, Arise#305 PASTORAL PRAYER Rev. Sermon Points: In Concert – John 16:5-17 Crucial Truth for Living: The Holy Spirit works in concert with the Godhead to conform us to Christlikeness. In these verses, we’ll see:

1. The relationship between the Persons of the Trinity.

2. The Work of the Holy Spirit.

a. He will be the Counselor, the legal advocate for the Christian.

b. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt. The Holy Spirit is the

Convictor.

c. The Holy Spirit will convict of 3 things: disbelief, unrighteousness, and

judgment (9-11).

3. Even the closest of disciples sometimes fail to catch the major messages of

Jesus.

Founded in 1850, Midway Church is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), a

Reformed, evangelical denomination organized in 1973. Our church seeks to be Scriptural in both its

government and its doctrine. We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, our infallible and

divine authority in all matters of life and faith.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The

Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of

the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 1:1,14
