WDJC has been connecting with audiences in our community for the past 50 years, showcasing the best in Christian programming. On April 22, 1968, WDJC signed on the air for the first time from its penthouse studio on the 13th floor in the Dinkler-Tutwiler Hotel in downtown Birmingham. Before his death, legendary host Wayne Wallace, host of the Dixie Gospel Caravan, explained how they put the antenna out the window. “It was a 20,000 watt tower that would modulate the neon sign that had no power to it while I played gospel music,” he once said. “The low-power FM station could barely be heard outside the Birmingham city limits.”

At the time, AM radio was still king and most people didn’t own FM radios. The few FM radio stations in Birmingham went together and teamed up with Western Auto to sell FM radios. As the popularity of FM stations rose, the announcers at WDJC became household names. Wallace went on to win the prestigious Singing News National Southern Gospel Announcer of the Year award several times, hosting the Dixie Gospel Caravan for decades. Ronnie Bruce, Doug McCain, Hank Erwin and Bob Ratchford were all popular hosts.

In the 50 years that WDJC has been on the air, the station has set the bar for excellence in Christian programming, showcasing such personalities as James Dobson, Charles Capps and Joyce Meyer and local ministries such as Search the Word. The tradition of popular hosts continues today with Roxanne, Justin Brown, Ace McKay, Mark Harvard, John Dennis and Sunday of Praise Host Terry Patilla.

WDJC also attributes its success to the long-term investment of its advertisers, including The Foundry, Fox Mortgage Owner Jim Corey, Lynne Mosley with Silverton Mortgage and Tony Cooper, executive director of the Jimmie Hale Mission, one of the station’s longest running advertisers. Some of these advertisers have been with us for more than 25 years!

Today WDJC is 100,000 watts strong and the all-contemporary Christian station is considered by industry insiders as one of the top 25 Christian radio stations in the U.S. As the only station with the same ownership and call letters for the past 50 years, WDJC is heard around the world at wdjconline.com and on the WDJC App on smartphones.

TESTIMONIALS

“I’ve been advertising with WDJC for over three years. It’s been the best advertising dollars that I’ve used. The clients gained over the years have really enhanced my business exceptionally well. I couldn’t be any happier with WDJC and their staff with how hard they work to make sure their clients are pleased. They follow up more frequently than any marketing that I’ve done before. They continue to make sure we’re satisfied with updated content to make sure we’re relevant within the marketplace. Dr. Rob Bolling Bolling Plastic Surgery

Advertising with Crawford Broadcasting on WYDE and WDJC is one of the best decisions we could have made. The values and character of the employees have been instrumental in creating an ongoing successful marketing campaign. Our ROI has been tremendous. We started advertising here for the business side. We have stayed because of the people! Scott Moulton Hometown Lenders LLC

Working with Tim, Justin and Terry make it enjoyable to advertise with such a good cause like Christian radio. They are always willing to do whatever is necessary to accommodate our practice.
