Children need 60 minutes a day of physical activity. Keep your children active through winter by getting outside. Try skating, hiking, building a snowman or go tobogganing. Check out participaction for great winter games ideas:

Robotics Team

On Saturday, December 6, our intermediate robotics team competed in the local

qualifying tournament of the First Lego League at Eden Secondary School. This

was the culmination of three months of hard work. The team presented a Mine-

craft-based project on teaching mathematics, demonstrated their robot’s engi-

neering and programming to a panel, and faced a group problem-solving chal-

lenge. Throughout the day, our team showed great professionalism and collaboration. They

overcame serious setbacks in the early robotics rounds to make a strong final showing and

leap from last place to third, and won the FLL Core Values trophy for teamwork. Congratula-

tions to Destiny S., Brianna A., Evan C., Mathew T., Ian M., Raymond I., Jordan W., and Curtis R.

Great job this season!

From Your School Nurse... Anyone can get head lice. Check for head lice weekly as part of your regular routine. The best way to avoid the spread of lice is by avoiding head-to-head contact. Remind your children not to share combs, brushes, hats, scarves or anything used on the head. Checking for lice

Use a bright light (a magnifying glass may help) Part hair in small sections and look near the scalp Head lice are tiny grey/brown insects that live only on the scalp of humans. They crawl quickly but

cannot fly or jump. Adult female lice glue eggs on the hair shaft close to the scalp. If you find lice

Check all the people that live in your house Treat all cases at the same time to stop the spread of lice Inform the school and/or daycare so classmates can be checked Tell anyone in close contact with your child (family members, friends, baby-sitters)

Getting rid of lice Treatment products are to be used only on those who have head lice, as they do not prevent lice. Talk to a health professional about products and methods available. Follow instructions carefully. The Wet Combing Method helps find and remove head lice by combing through hair soaked with conditioner, using a fine-toothed comb. For more information on Wet Combing Method or on lice visit: www.niagararegion.ca/health search lice or call the Parent Talk Line at 905-688-8248 or 1-888-505-6074 ext. 7555

A special thanks to all the parents who helped get the

themselves on the back! Congratulations to Miss Rose’s

Grade 1 class on winning the motto contest! Not only

do they get to see their hard work on the back of every

Lockview student, but they also enjoyed a Pizza Party

from Fratelli’s Pizzeria.

Congratulations to the Carter family who won a 24 slice of Pizza from Fratelli’s Pizzeria Scott Street in St Catharines for “Liking” the TLC Facebook Page!

This year, math is a school learning focus for Lockview staff and students. Together we are exploring through problem solving, reasoning and playful inquiry in order to deepen our

understanding and build our skills.

To give you a “peek inside” our classrooms, we will be posting photos of our activities in the monthly newsletter, on our SIP bulletin board (across from the office), and on Twitter! Follow

us at #LeopardMath to stay in the loop!

Congratulations to the grade 2's in Mrs. Andersen and Mrs. Panici's class who showed their holiday spirit by collecting food and coins to donate to those in need. Here, they sort and count the coins. Math with meaning, indeed!
