Ms. Ybarra The third graders are using different strategies to solve multiplication problems. Please, work daily with your

child on his/her multiplication facts. If they know them by memory, it will allow for an easier transition into

division.

The fourth graders will take their Unit 3 Multiplication assessment on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. Look

out for the study guide. It will help your child better prepare for the test. On Thursday, we will begin the

unit on division. Please, continue working with your child on 2 digit multiplication problems.

Our next unit is entitled Physical Characteristics of Communities. We will learn about the local community as well as learn about climate, landforms, natural resources, and natural hazards in environments such as deserts, mountains, wetlands and plains. Parents please encourage your child to read for at least 30 mins. daily. This will help in improving their fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. We are hard at work doing the Reading Plus program for 30 mins. every day, but to be successful in that program your child has to get a grade of an 80 on every story that they read. For this to occur, your child must focus, concentrate, and apply as many reading strategies that they have acquired throughout the years. Every story should not take more than 15 mins., but they must try and do their best in every story that they read. I will be giving them some incentives so that they can be encouraged to do their BEST on a daily basis. By working together we can ensure that OUR STUDENTS CAN SUCCEED.

Counselor’s Corner:

Greetings, parents! This week was Fire Prevention Week and our Kindergarten and 1st grade students were taught the importance of

fire safety. Let’s be reminded, as parents, the importance of practicing fire safety at home. Life can be busy as it is with the

responsibilities of running a household but we should also consider what to do in case of a fire in our home. Our Kindergarten and 1st

grade students learned about the four important steps to follow in case of a house fire. I am providing parents with these steps so that

you may have a plan if one isn’t in place. This information was gathered from the U.S. Fire Administration.

Have a plan for young children who cannot get outside by themselves. You will need to wake babies and very young children and

help them get out. In your plan, talk about who will help each child get out safely.

Know two ways out of every room. It is important to find two ways out of every room in the house, in case one exit is blocked or

dangerous to use.

Choose a meeting place outside the home. Children should know what to do when they hear a smoke alarm and there is no adult

around. Help them practice going to the outside meeting place. Teach them to never go back inside a building that is on fire.

Migrant Dept. News:

Migrant Education Program (MEP) The purpose of the Migrant Education Program (MEP) is to design and support programs that help migrant students overcome the challenges of mobility, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, and other difficulties associated with a migratory lifestyle. These efforts are aimed at helping migrant students succeed in school and successfully transition to postsecondary education or employment. In order to better serve your children, La Pryor School district is helping the State of Texas identify students who may qualify to receive additional educational services. If you are a Migrant and are not currently participating in the La Pryor Migrant Program, please call the office to set up an appointment with Special Programs. We would like the opportunity to discuss our migrant services with you.
