Sixth and seventh grade students will take these assessments from May 6th-10th in the morning. The assessments cov- er English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades three through eight. Science and social studies assessments will only be given in grades five and eight. These exams are part of Georgias Milestones Assessment System, designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted con- tent standards. The tests include a wide variety of questions such as multiple choice and con- structed responses that require students to explain how they solve problems, think critically, and write analytically. These skills take time and effort to master, but our students will need them to succeed in the future. In Fulton County Schools, we see these tests as an academic checkup. Like class assignments and report cards, they are one gauge of student progress – one way to provide you and your childs teachers with information about your childs work toward the high goals we have set for our students. 8 th grade testing will be completed on the students iPad between April 15-25 as follows: Monday, April 15 – ELA, section 1 Writing Tuesday, April 16 – ELA, section 2 Wednesday, April 17 – ELA, section 3 Thursday, April 18 – Math, section 1 Friday, April 19 – Math, section 2 Monday, April 22 – Science, sections 1 & 2 Tuesday, April 23, Social Studies, section 1 & 2 Wednesday and Thursday, April 24-25 – Make-ups It is important that students charge their iPads every night. Testing will begin promptly at 8:55 a.m. and conclude around 10:30 a.m. on April 15th-19th. Testing will end around noon on April 22nd-23rd, and there will be an adjusted schedule on testing days. Q&A with Lisa Van Der Merwe, LCSW, PC Lvcounseling.com

You Asked For It and We Listened!

Join us for a Live Q&A Session with Lisa Van De Merwe, LCSW, PC at JCHS!

JCHS hosted Parent University, “Nurturing Your Teen’s Emotional Wellness” with Lisa Van Der Merwe, LCSW, PC back in August. We had an amazing turnout with parents asking lots of questions! This time, she will be back dedicating the entire hour answering questions you have about your children! Please submit your questions and/or RSVP Here or email Maiko Noiri-Schoen [email protected]. We’ll also take questions during the live event, but submitting them in advance will help Lisa plan better and give you a better chance of getting your questions an-swered. She can’t promise to answer every question, but all questions are welcome and encouraged. Please send questions that are less specific to your child but may be helpful to other parents as well. We would like this session to be interactive and helpful for a variety of parenting challenges. Examples would be, "How do I han-dle my teens technology usage?" "What are warning signs of depression?" *Please note that this presentation provides general information only, and should not be misconstrued as counseling advice specific to any particular individual or situation.
