PRAYERS FOR OUR RELATIVES & FRIENDS SERVING IN THE MILITARY

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Please keep our youth and their families in your prayers as they celebrate the most blessed Sacraments of 1st Eucharist and Confirmation. Holy Ghost parishioners celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, May 2nd. Our 2nd grade celebrate the Sacrament of 1st Eucharist in both parishes on Saturday, May 4th and Sunday May 5 There will be another celebration of 1st Eucharist in both parishes on Saturday May 11th. Parishioners of St. Bridget’s Church will celebrated Confirmation on Friday May 17th at 7pm. A very special THANK YOU to all our catechists for their service to our Church. We are grateful for their sacrifice and commitment in bringing the teachings of the Catholic faith to our families . May they all come to understand the fullness of Gods tender Mercy and Love present in these most blessed Sacraments.

Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality The Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of the Light of Christ Collaborative will hold a tea for its members on May 6th in Fr. Glennon Hall at Holy Ghost Church starting at 6:30 PM. This should prove to be a most enjoyable evening. The tea will be catered, serving delicious scones, sandwiches and fancy deserts. We will hold a best decorated hat contest, so ladies dig out those old hats. Our raffle will be held as usual. Looking forward to a fun filled evening. The Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of the Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative would like to thank all the parishioners for their support with our Easter bake and raffle sale. Our sale was a big success and we want all the parishioners to know how grateful we are.

Saint Vincent de Paul/Whitman Food Pantry The Saint Vincent de Paul/Whitman Food Pantry needs volunteers for an important fundraiser. We have committed to provide 60 volunteers to give out water, juice and fruit to runners in a Half Triathlon to be held in Freetown MA on Saturday June 15th, 2019. Volunteers must provide their own transportation to Freetown (Carpools should be available from the Holy Ghost Church parking lot). Report time in Freetown is 8:30am and an Italian Picnic will be provided for lunch. The last runner is expected in by 3 PM. This is a great opportunity to work together with various charitable groups in Whitman to raise money to help those less fortunate. For further details, please contact Frank or Kathy Tenore @ 508-279-0355, or Frank’s cell @ 508-612-3005, email us @ [email protected]

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative, Remember to keep wishing people a Happy Easter during these 50 days! Happy Easter! The Lord has been raised from the dead, Alleluia!!! We are still within the midst of our Easter Season, our 50-day meditation on the mystery of Christ's Resurrection. In today’s Gospel the disciples were going fishing, but not for relaxation. That had been their former job and way of life and, at this point, they were confused about Jesus. They had been separated from the Lord for the first time in three years and who knew if and when he would return? They needed to work in order to eat. Their faith at this time was really being put to the test. Jesus takes them to task for their unbelief and addresses them as children. Not sure if they would appreciate being called children. But, they were, in fact, children in the ways of faith and spirituality. Then, Jesus – the amateur fisherman – tells these professionals where to fish! Lower your nets on the right side. There is always a right way to do things! This is the second time they are called out of the water and the fishing boats to be his disciples. We learn from that, that Jesus never gives up on us either. He is always calling us to return to him and be his disciples. He did it with Peter and the disciples; he does it with us, too. The Holy Spirit was present among us in a special way this past Thursday evening. The Rev. Msgr. George Carlson conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on 65 Holy Ghost Confirmation Students. The Very Rev. William Joy will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on the St. Bridget Confirmation Students on Friday, May 17. The Students are anointed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit - wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord. Although they all come from the same source, the Holy Spirit parcels them out differently according to the different needs of the various ministries and works which a given member of the Church will be undertaking. Please pray for our Confirmation Candidates as they are fully initiated in the Catholic Church. Congratulations to all our Second Graders who are receiving their First Holy Communion this weekend at both Parishes and next Saturday at Holy Ghost. We pray that they stay close to Jesus in the Eucharist and to continue their journey to be fully initiated Catholics in the Church. A gentle reminder to us who have received Holy Communion for many years: Strive to avoid, at all costs, the danger of receiving Holy Communion in a mechanical, perfunctory, routine, and nonchalant fashion. The real danger of easy access and frequent availability of Holy Communion is to simply take the Lord for granted. In many sacristies throughout the world there is a sign, better yet a “Warning-sign” with the following words: “Priest, man of God, say this

Mass as if it were your first Mass, your last Mass, your Only Mass.” May this be our approach and attitude as we receive Holy Communion - to receive Holy Communion every time “as if it were our first Holy Communion, our last Holy Communion, our Only Holy Communion!” Indeed how much more fervent would our reception of Holy Communion be!!! The SPRING Collaborative Dinner Dance is being held THIS Friday, May 10th at 7PM at the Spellman Center at Holy Ghost. Tickets for this event are available at both rectories. Following dinner, we will have dancing and conversation to the music provided by John Tibbets. Tickets are $10 each. Come and have some fun. The USPS will be a blessing again this year in their faithful efforts to support our local food pantries by holding their annual food drive THIS coming Saturday, May 11, 2019. Thank you, in advance, for being a part of this crucially important food drive. Monetary donations can be mailed to Whitman Food Pantry, PO Box 560, Whitman, MA 02382. And to St. Bridget’s St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, 455 Plymouth St., Abington, MA 02351. Our Collaborative Vocation Team is asking all parishioners to “adopt” Boston Seminarians each week to pray for their vocations. We are now highlighting one member of the Ordination Class of 2019 each week until they are Ordained on May 19, 2019. This week please pray for Deacon Maciej Araszkiewicz. Deacon Maciej is from Bydgoszcz. Bydgoszcz is a city in northern Poland, on the Brda and Vistula rivers. He is studying at the Redemptoris Mater Archdiocesan Missionary Seminary.

A Prayer for Seminarians O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that You call many worthy souls to Your holy priesthood. Enlighten the Bishop in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Director in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps; so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom and heroes of sacrifice; steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man; apostles of Your glory and sanctifiers of souls. Amen. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us. Let us pray for each other. God bless, Father Mahoney
