• Enrique was born on the 8th of May 1975
• He is the third child• He is the son of a multi-million-selling
singer Julio Iglesias
• His parents divorced when Enrique was just 3.
• The next year his father moved to Miami, Florida to continue his musical career
• 1985 Enrique and his brother were sent to live with his father after his grandfather was kidnapped by a terrorist group (ETA)
•Enrique was raised by the family nanny
•He went to the university of Miami to study business
•Enrique did not want his father to know about his musical career plans
•He also did not want his famous surname to help his music
•He recorded a demo tape and approached his fathers former publicist Fernan Martinez
•He used the name Enrique Martinez, and a back ground as being a unknown from Guatemala
• Iglesias was signed by a record label called Fonovisa
• He dropped out of college and went to Toronto, Ontario, and Canada for six months to record his first album
1995
• his first album (Enrique Iglesias) sold half a million copies in the first week
• It earned him his first golden record in seven days
• It sold more than 6 million world wide
1997
• His second album (Vivir) sold more than 5 million and launched his first world tour
• In 3 years he sold more than 17 million Spanish albums
1998-1999
• he released his third album Cosas del Amor (Things of love)
• He won a American music award for favorite Latin Artist against Ricky Martin and Los Tigres del Notre
• The song “Nunca te olividare” was used as the theme song for a Spanish soap opera
• On the last episode of the series he sang the song
1999-2000
• He began a successful crossover career into the English language music market
• He contributed to the sound track of Will Smiths movie Wild Wild West
• “Bailamos” Became a number one hit
• After weeks of negotiation he signed a multi-album deal with Interscope
• Iglesias recorded and released his first full CD in English “Enrique”
• It took two months to finish• The CD contained a duet with Whitney
Houston called “Could I have this kiss forever”
2001-2002
• He released his album Escape• Hero became a number one hit in the UK, and
many other countries• Enrique capitalized on the albums success
with his world tour consisting of 50 sold-out shows in 16 countries
2002-2003
• His next Spanish-language album was titled Quizas (Perhaps)
• The video to the song Quizas was the first Spanish language music video to be added to MTV’s Total request Live show
• Enrique performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
• Witch opened doors for other artists such as Ricky Martin
• Enrique released his seventh album called 7• This album kicked off his biggest world tour to
date
2004-2006
• He was a guest on the opera Winfrey’s talk show
• Also surprised one of his fans by spending the day with her
• He appeared on Extreme makeover: home edition singing “Somebody's me”
2007-2008
• Released INSOMNIAC• It contained more Pop style than his previous
albums• He sang “Push” with Lil’ Wayne
2008
• Enrique released a Spanish Greatest Hits album witch included his seventeen #1 songs on the Hot Latin tracks chart
• Plus two new songs
2009
• He was anonced best international Male Artist at the NRJ Music Award in France
Acting
• Enrique developed an interest in acting• He was in the film “once upon a time in
Mexico”• Along with Antonio banderas, Salma Hayek,
and Johnny Depp
Private life
• The media has linked Iglesias to many women• It is difficult to know witch claims are true, do
