SRI ATMAKURU VENKAIAH

OF INDUKURUPETA VILLAGE

At the age of forty, Sri Atmakuru

Venkaiah came to know about Venkaiah

Swamy’s Divine Powers through Sri Bala

Brahmananda Swamy. Waiting impa-

tiently for having darshan of the

Parabrahma Swaroopa, he felt utterly

disappointed for not knowing the

whereabouts of Swamy. He was spend-

ing the days with frustration. At that

time he developed a sort of skin allergy

all over his body and he consulted a

doctor at Nellore for treatment. To determine what exactly the

problem is, the doctor took blood samples and said that the samples

will be sent to Madras for examination. The doctor asked Venkaiah

to visit him on receipt of reports after four days and that he would

prescribe the medicines accordingly. It happened to be a summer

season. He has to go to the Madras bus station to board a bus to

his village. On the way he came across the Dattatreya Mutt situ-

ated on the Trunk road (Nellore) and since he felt tiresome, he

went inside the Mutt for taking rest.

Who can describe the incredible leela of Gurudeva! Is the

All-Pervading Gurudeva unaware of Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah’s ea-

gerness to have His darshan? To prove this point, I produce the

saying which Gurudeva Himself told.

‘Ayya, even if our lamb is in a big herd of thousands, won’t we

easily identify and drag it out with a rope tied to its leg’.

Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah is one such blessed lamb who is dragged

and spiritually drawn towards Gurudeva, the Form of Universal Love.

Like a mother’s nature to draw and fondle her child in her lap, it is

Gurudeva’s nature to create unforeseen situations to draw His

devotees towards Him. As soon as Sri Venkaiah stepped into the

Mutt, he noticed Mataji Tulasamma stepping into the Mutt with an

iron trunk which is filled with papers of the Divine Hand Impres-

sions (Ramakoti Mudras) of Gurudeva. Sri Venkaiah does not know

Mataji Tulasamma and hence there is no possibility to introduce

himself. At that time, the head of the Dattatreya Ashram,

Eshwaramma, invited Mataji and enquired, ‘Mataji, is it that you

are coming now’ and so on.

Eshwaramma is such a noble woman that she built the ashram

in the name of Dattatreya Swamy where she gave shelter to the

needy and provided all basic amenities for the pilgrims and devo-

tees. Constantly reciting Parameshwara’s name and standing as

an example to prove that she has no re-birth, revered Eeshwaramma

is leading a righteous and pious life. Mataji Tulasamma, the

mother of all mothers, told the great mother Eeshwaramma,

‘amma, Swamy has come. He has gone to Sri Ranganayaka temple’.

On hearing the conversation, Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah asked Mutt

head, Eeshwaramma, ‘who is the Swamy?’. She told him, yes, it is

the Kaliyuga Avatara, Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy, the

God Incarnate.

On hearing the ear-pleasing and divinely name, the delight

felt by the eagerly waiting devotee was inexplicable. Immediately

he rushed to Sri Ranganayaka temple. With a deep longing to

have darshan of Swamy, he went on making circumambulations

round the temple. He etched a form on his mind’s screen that,

Swamy would be wearing saffron clothes, would be sporting

Vibhooti (holy ash) on the forehead, had groomed a long beard,

moustache (the common feature of a Swamy) and so on. But, he

had not yet come across any such person while making rounds to

the temple. Tired, he noticed three persons at a corner and ap-

proached a person wearing saffron robes and saluted him. But, as

per their talk, Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah concluded that it is not Swamy

and asked, ‘ayya, where is Venkaiah Swamy, Where is He’. Imme-

diately they pointed a person sitting near the steps at the glass

castle and showed Gurudeva, Our Father. Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah

approached the Divine Personality and the Universal Savior who

was serenely seated there. He went to Him and offered his heart-

felt prostrations. Not content, he requested, ‘Swamy, I want to

prostrate at Your Feet’. Swamy stretched His legs and Sri Atmakuru

Venkaiah held the Holy Feet of Swamy, the Eternal Delight. He

felt that the Divine Feet of Swamy were indeed his future shelter

and offered prostrations. Usually Gurudeva never allowed any per-

son to touch His Feet. It was by virtue of the past-life merits Sri

Atmakuru Venkaiah could touch His Divine Feet and offer respects.

He spent time in the presence of Swamy till 4 ‘o’ clock in the evening.

He requested Sri Chelama Naidu to explain his health problem to

Swamy.

Sri Chelama Naidu advised Sri Venkaiah to come to

Golagamudi, the Shelter of Gurudeva’s Love, where he would be

blessed with a solution. He told that he had come here without

informing at home and that he would visit Golagamudi as early as

he could. Unable to leave Gurudeva’s Comely Presence, yet, he

left for his village, Indukurupeta. After ten days he came to the

Dattatreya Ashram, Nellore, in anticipation that Swamy would be

there. On that day also Mataji Tulasamma appeared in the Mutt

and told, ‘ayya, I am going to Golagamudi. Swamy is coming from

Madras bus stand to Nellore’. While proceeding to the bus stand,

Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah had darshan of Swamy on the way. He of-

fered Pranams to Swamy and told Sri Chelama Naidu (who was

among the group of disciples) that he would arrange food for them.

In reply, Sri Naidu said, ‘Swamy will not have food at the hotels. If

you can bring food to the Ranganayaka Swamy temple, bring it.

We will be there’. He went to the hotel and asked for four plates of

food. As Venkaiah did not have the required tiffin carrier to adjust

the four plates of food, they arranged food for two persons only.

To offer the food as a divine offering (Prasadam), with utmost ex-

citement he took the tiffin carrier and rushed to Sri Ranganayaka

Swamy temple. But, he could not find either Swamy or the disciple

group there. Upon enquiry, he came to know that they all had left

to the adjoining area at the insistence of Sri Chalama Naidu, to the

house of a merchant family (Vaisya).

Sri Venkaiah went to that house, prostrated to Gurudeva and

reverentially offered the food to Swamy. There, two strangers were

also waiting for Swamy’s darshan. On noticing them, Sri Venkaiah

felt agitated whether the food brought by him will be sufficient for

four persons or not. Surprisingly, even after the four persons had

sufficient food, something more was still left. Immersed in utmost

delight, Sri Venkaiah concluded that, it was merely a Divine Sport

of Swamy.

Here, I refer an incident to the readers that pertains to Jesus

(Mathaya 15 chapter)

Some disciples came to Jesus at dusk fall and told, ‘there is

no habitation here. The night is fast approaching. Send them away.

They will go to the nearby villages so that they can make their own

arrangement for food’. Then Jesus said to his devotees, ‘there is

no need to send them away. You arrange food for them’. They

replied, ‘we are having only five breads and two fish. Apart, there’s

nothing more’. Jesus then said, ‘call all of them here’, and, in-

structed the gathering to sit on the groud. Taking the five breads

and the two fish in His hands, He looked at the sky and blessed

them. He made them into pieces and gave the food to His dis-

ciples. They served the food to all those who sat on the ground

After they ate to their hearts content, yet, twelve basket-full of

pieces were left.

After relishing the food offering of His devotee, Swamy felt

like having a bath at the stream and told Sri Chelama Naidyu, ‘ayya,

Chelama Naidu, it’s long since a bath was taken at the stream’.

Feeling tired, Sri Chelama Naidu said, ‘Swamy, I cannot come out

in this scorching sun. He will come, take him’ and pointed at Sri

Venkaiah. Swamy said, ‘ah, is he not eagerly waiting’ and turning

to Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah, said, ‘ayya, you go ahead. I will follow

you’. While Sri Venkaiah was walking ahead, Swamy followed him.

They both reached the stream. Swamy pleasantly swam in the

sub-stream and asked Sri Venkaiah to come into the waters. Hav-

ing played in the waters, Swamy, the God Supreme, returned back

with His disciple to Golagamudi, the Abode of Bliss, on the same

day evening. While Swamy was self-absorbed in a state of bliss,

Sri Atmakuru Venkaiah slowly and coolly reached His Lotus Feet

and submitted his ailment. Gurudeva, the Divine Grace, took a

cloth, invoked it with Mantra (words or syllables, traditionally hav-

ing some mystical significance) and with His Own Hands applied

ink with a cloth all over his body, saying ‘Vidipee’ ‘Vidipee’.

Gurudeva was breathing out while reciting the Mantra. In this way

He repeated the process for four continuous days.

Process (Prakriya) :- The act of Gurudeva applying ink to Sri

Venkaiah’s body – sparsa (touch), Vidipee, Vidipee, breathing out

and the Mantra, invoked on the cloth by reciting the Divine Name

was the Supreme of All. On the fourth day, Sri Venkaiah asked

Swamy as to when he would get rid of the ailment. Swamy said, ‘it

will go away after one month and five days and there is no need

for any medicine. On the fifth day a person will come for you. You

can go home’. Blessing so, Swamy made a chit written to this

effect. After Sri Venkaiah left home, as predicted by Swamy within

one month and five days he was totally cured without taking any

medicines. Though he was attending normal household works, he

was always engrossed in reciting the Divine Name of Gurudeva.

Whenever the thought of having darshan of Gurudeva took roots in

him, keeping aloof from all works and enquiring Gurudeva’s where-

abouts, he would rush to the shelter of His Divine Feet. He used to

visit Swamy now and then, keeping aside the works he had. On

one such instance, Sri Venkaiah came to Golagamudi, the Embodi-

ment of Divine Delight, to gratify himself with the darshan of

Swamy’s Lotus Feet. Gurudeva is an auspicious person who not

only possessed inexhaustible riches but is the origin of imperish-

able auspiciousness. Such a divinely glorious and supreme

charactered person can do anything at his mere will and wish.

Following the rule of morals and ethics in a right spirit and thereby

inculcating righteousness amongst the disciples is indeed His Di-

vine Sport. It is one of the chores to go to the forest along with

disciples and acquire firewood for lighting the holy fire. It is but a

delight for Gurudeva to mingle with His disciples, tie a towel to

His waist and toil with them in the works. One day Sri Venkaiah

followed Swamy to the forest to take part in the sacred task. After

walking some distance, disciple Chelama Naidu recollected that

he forgot to bring the axe with him. He asked Sri Venkaiah, the

new co-disciple who was following them to get the axe from ashram

and sent him back. Swamy was a bit upset at His disciple’s forget-

fulness and for his unjust action. (Forgetting is one mistake. Apart,

instead of going and getting back the axe, instructing some one to

get it is another mistake to cover-up his own fault. Hence, it is said

to be an unjust action). Swamy felt that if they proceed further, Sri

Venkaiah might fall far back and commanded the followers, say-

ing, ‘ayya, he walks slowly, wait for him’.

It was but common to cut wood and to hack the stems of

cactus shrubs for Gurudeva’s Yajna karya. As Sri Venkaiah had no

experience in the work, he struck a Cactus (bontajemudu) shrub

with an axe by standing opposite to it. The dangerous (milk like)

drops spilled from the hacked plant and fell in the eyes of Sri

Venkaiah. He closed both the eyes and writhed in agony. Swamy,

the Guardian of Humanity, embraced and soothing his eyes with

His Divine Palm, said, ‘ayya, don’t worry, you will get good eyes’.

Immediately the suffering vanished. Upon opening the eyes, his

eye-sight seemed sharper than what it was before. Whatever you

call it, either a miracle of Gurudeva or His compassion; Padarenuvu,

the writer, leaves the choice to the readers’ wit. When a drop of

cactus milk falls on human body, it will leave burning scars. If

such dangerous drops spill into the delicate eyes, the outcome is

will be disastrous. But, in the Divine Presence of Gurudeva, for

the one who is absorbed in His work, the dangerous drops became

nectarine. This infact is the Divine Play of Gurudeva’s indescrib-

able glory. In another instance, when Sri Venkaiah was cutting

thorny bushes, a big thorn pierced into his foot resulting in severe

bleeding. When he pressed on the spot to stop the blood, his foot

swelled and started giving acute pain. Can the ‘agony of suffering’

dare to stay near, when the God of Gods is alongside? The mo-

ment Gurudeva pressed His disciples foot, immediately the bleed-

ing stopped and pain got relaxed. Again, Sri Venkaiah got en-

gaged in his normal service.

The next day, as usual Sri Venkaiah was preparing to go to the

forest with other disciples for gathering firewood . Gurudeva, the

Perfect Master, said, ‘ayya, Indukurupeta Venkaiah! Don’t go to

the forest. You have to go to your village’. Saying so, He permitted

Sri Venkaiah with His blessings to leave the place and gave a chit

inscribed with calculations of the creation (srishti). The very mo-

ment when he stepped into the house, his wife who was strug-

gling between life and death with uncontrolled vomitings and mo-

tions got instant relief. Such a miracle occured, the very moment

Sri Venkaiah stepped in the house. It is merely due to the Kali Yuga

Avatara and the Godhead Gurudeva’s ‘Sristi Cheeti’ which resulted

in such a wonder to happen. They could understand, it was the

Omnipotent’s Sristi Cheeti that prevented Lord Yama’s noose (trap)

from snatching her life. After three months, Sri Venkaiah spent

three days in the service of Gurudeva, the Universal Spirit in Hu-

man Form. For the service he rendered for three days, he received

attention of Gurudeva, the three-eyed Form of Lord Shiva. On the

third day, when Sri Swamy was absorbed in His service, Swamy,

the Heavenly Father, said, ‘ayya, one of your calf among the cattle

will face a grave danger on the 21st day. The danger can be averted

if no cart is placed in the cattle shed’. Next day, Sri Venkaiah came

back to Indukurupeta. In his routine household and agriculture du-

ties he forgot the words of Gurudeva to keep away the cart from

the cattle shed. Exactly on the twenty first day night, the calf’s

head got stuck in the wheel of the cart. Unable to pull its head out,

it struggled and struggled and at last breathed its last. Next day

morning, Sri Venkaiah noticed the dead calf with its head stuck in

the gaps of the wheel. There cannot be any challenge to Gurudeva’s

words! If Swamy’s words were followed, the unfortunate incident

would have been averted. We should inscribe the nectarine words

of Gurudeva in our hearts and keep chanting His Divine Name.

Else, this sort of disasters are likely to occur. Though Swamy gave

a hint to His disciple about the impending danger, he forgot to take

the precaution and let slip the opportunity with his own hands.

After a lapse of time, once Sri Venkaiah was taking his cattle

for grazing to Kotturu Vengalayapalli village, situated near Somasila,

Nellore District. On the way he came to know that Gurudeva, the

Personality of Godhead, was engaged in performing rituals with

the Holy Fire at Badwel Tippa. He ran to Him leaving the cattle,

prostrated and had darshan of Gurudeva. After seeking blessings,

he sought Gurudeva’s permission to leave. Swamy, the Protector

of All Beings, got a chit written to the shelter-seeking disciple,

assuring, ‘a calf’s life is at risk’. It could be saved from the risk by

tying a boniga (a wooden bell tied to the neck of an ill-tempered

cow or bull) to it’s neck. Thus explaining the preventive measures

to be taken, it was further said, ‘eeyana meedha pannendu mandini

teesesinaru’. With the blessings of Swamy, he completed his er-

rands without any obstacles and returned back home. Since then,

he was in such a state of mind that he lost interest in all worldly

affairs. With this sudden behavioral change, the family members

felt distressed and upset. They tried to cure Sri Venkaiah with

medicines and mantra-tantras (for suspected effects of evil spir-

its), but in vain. At last, the Almighty, the Omnipotent, the Savior

of All Risks, Gurudeva, came into their thoughts. They concluded

that he was the ‘Only Divine Shelter’ who could save the family

from such grave situations. They brought Sri Venkaiah to

Golagamudi, the Divine Shelter of Delight, fell on Gurudeva’s Lo-

tus Feet and begged Him with tearful eyes to save them from the

catastrophic situation. The very moment they received Gurudeva’s

blessings, Sri Venkaiah, the shelter seeking devotee, became nor-

mal.

Though Sri Venkaiah lost his mental balance, he used to be in

his own world but did not harm anyone. Had he done so, people

would have called him a mentally deranged person. But can the

Heavenly Father make things happen in such a way to bring a bad

repute to His own child? That’s why, in the chit got written on that

day, it read as, ‘eeyana meedha pannendu mandini teesesinaru’.

Saving His devotee from the worldly ill repute, Gurudeva not only

saved him but as well restored back his health. Can anyone de-

scribe in words His Mercy and Compassion?

In this way Sri Venkaiah used to visit Swamy, the Love-Shelter,

whenever he desired to. He would stay in the service of Swamy

and only after obtaining His permission, he would go home and

attend to the household responsibilities. One day while he was in

the service of Gurudeva; as if a child teasing a father for fulfill-

ment of desires, Sri Venkaiah insisted Gurudeva to sanctify his

house with His Divine presence. Can a father ignore his child’s

desire! When the Master of the Universe gave His consent, a gal-

axy of stars twinkled in the skies of Sri Venkaiah’s heart. That day

onwards his eyes waited impatiently for Gurudeva’s arrival. How-

ever, a year later, Swamy, the Fulfiller of Wishes, came to Digani

village (three miles away from Inukurty village of Podalakuru Tq.,

Nellore Dist. To reach the place, one has to go by walk only) and

stayed there. Swamy told His disciple Sri Sompalli Ramanaidu,

‘ayya, we have to go to Indukurupeta village’. A century back, the

place Digani was under the proprietorship of Sri Anchuri Subba

Naidu, a resident of Indukurpet, Nellore Dist., who was as familiar

as Dana Karana for the charity he undertook. After his demise,

gradually the place became deserted as no one came forward to

maintain the mine at Digani. Except for a big mango tree and a

dilapidated house opposite to it, there was nothing else. There is

no trace of human habitat three miles all around, except a few

shepherds grazing cattle here and there. After a two day stay at

Digani, Gurudeva, the Supreme Master, along with His disciple

group, left for Indukurupeta. He stepped into the house of Sri

Venkaiah and thereby fulfilled his long-cherished desire. Sri

Venkaiah and his family members were utmost delighted by

Gurudeva’s Divine Presence and their joy knew no bounds. In the

Venkaiah Swamy Book Inner_450-571_Feb2012.pmd 2/11/2012, 8:36 PM458

trance of delight, in a baffled state, Sri Venkaiah was unable to

even guess as to how he could satisfy the Divine Guest. Yet, to the

best of his ability, Sri Venkaiah arranged his possible-best to

Gurudeva and His disciples. It reminds us how Kuchela did his

best by offering oats to satisfy Lord Krishna.

The initial preference while rendering service to Gurudeva

was to acquire firewood for His Yajna Karya. Sri Venkaiah cut the

trees in and around the areas and brought the firewood for per-

forming Holy Rituals at the fire pit (agnigunda). The next day, with

the instructions of Gurudeva to go for bathing at the sea, the dis-

ciples were arranging a pair of new bullocks to the cart on which

Gurudeva was seated at that time. While the sishyas were trying

to yoke the bullocks to the cart, Swamy instructed, ‘ayya, tie them

to another cart, but not this’. As instructed by Gurudeva, the dis-

ciples replaced the pair of bullocks with another pair and left for

the sea shore, which was three miles away. For three days and

three nights Gurudeva, the Godhead, sat before the Holy Fire at

the sea shore and got totally absorbed in performing some Holy

Acts. On the fourth day, they all returned back to Sri Venkaiah’s

premises at Indukurupeta. Sitting there, He said, ‘ayya, after we

came back, the sea moved back by seven feet’. As normal humans

engaged in worldly affairs, what can we understand from the di-

vine language?

Four months after Gurudeva left the place, the strongest calf

in the cattle group of Sri Venkaiah was cured of the ailment to its

front leg. The Shelter of the Suffering Lot, Gurudeva, of course

was there! When Sri Venkaiah begged Gurudeva about the loss he

incurred, He told him to put the calf for sale. As advised, Sri

Venkaiah sold the calf, by which act the loss was minimized.

Once, while Gurudeva, the Savior of All-Beings, was perform-

ing Holy Rituals with Fire in the sanctified house of Sri Venkaiah,

He said, ‘the cattle shed’, and got the Creator’s calculations

scribbled on a chit. At that time, several devotees prostrated and

pleaded Gurudeva to give them such chits. They were instead

blessed with His Nectarine Looks but not offered the chits. The

day on which Gurudeva performed rituals with the Holy Fire and

blessed the dumb animals, saying, ‘the cattle shed’; then onwards

the cattle prospered with sound health.

When Gurudeva was stationed at the outskirts of Inukurti vil-

lage under a Banyan tree, Sri Venkaiah came over there. He pros-

trated at the Divine Feet of Gurudeva and offered Rs. 100/- as

fulfillment of his vow. Gurudeva asked sishyas, ‘how much is the

amount he gave’. Disciples said, it’s one hundred rupees. Swamy

immediately said, ‘ayya, he has to give another ten rupees’. Hear-

ing the words, Sri Venkaiah forgot himself in a fit of delight with a

feeling that his life was blessed with virtue, for; the Form of Para

Brahma Himself was seeking money from his hands. He immedi-

ately placed the amount at the Lotus Feet of Gurudeva and with

utmost reverence stood folding his hands and kept looking at

Gurudeva, the Most Auspicious Form. The Supreme Master, the

Heavenly Father, the All-Knowing and the All-Pervading Gurudeva

would never-ever neglect His children. It is His Responsibility to

save His Disciples whoever it be, who dwell at His Divine Feet, by

keeping total faith in Him. Gurudeva ordered Sri Venkaiah saying,

‘ayya, whether you live or die, it is immaterial. But for three months

your presence should not be felt in the village’. Informing his fam-

ily members, Sri Venkaiah implemented Gurudeva’s Compassion-

ate orders in word and spirit. And, he got instantly engaged in the

service of Gurudeva, the Rescuer from Darkness. Three months

elapsed like a three-minute span. Sri Venkaiah felt as if he was

purified and blessed at His service. When they were in the ashram

of Sri Narayana Dasu at Talupuru, Sri Venkaiah, sitting at Swamy’s

Lotus Feet said, ‘Swamy, following Your instructions, I am blessed

to render Your service, with Your Mercy’. The Form of Compassion,

Swamy, said, ‘yes, stay here. Why do you want to be midst quar-

rels and conflicts at home’.

My prostrations to Gurudeva, the Heavenly Mother, who, as if

I am a child, dragged me into His Warm Embrace, fondled, assured

and thus saved His devotee.

At Golagamudi, the Nectar of Peace, Sri Penchalaiah, a re-

vered devotee of Gurudeva proposed to run a tea stall for his live-

lihood. He expressed his wish with the disciples of Gurudeva that,

if Gurudeva, the Grace-Abound, sanctified the place with His pres-

ence, the new tea stall would be showered with prosperity. With-

out Gurudeva’s permission, He was taken on a wooden carrier to

that place. For reasons best known to Gurudeva, He started shout-

ing to take Him away from there. Sri Venkaiah who was with Swamy,

felt, ‘what’s this. Despite staying with Swamy for so many days, I

am unable to know what is what’. While his mind kept fluctuating

like this, Gurudeva, the Omnipresent, stationed His looks on Sri

Venkaiah and said, ‘what ! Your Mantra (sacred words) and My

Mantra are one and the same. Do you think it is not with you’.

As is let known, whoever gets self-enlightened and let oth-

superior among them is called the Divine Master. The self-real-

visible to the external world, he is internally absorbed in Brahma

That Divine Master is totally untouched by the material world.

Though His presence is felt in all actions, He would not react at

As per the above gist, great saints, whatever they do, self-

lessly they do it for the welfare of the world and nothing else mat-

“SRISHTI CHEETI” OF

NAGULA VELLATUR VILLAGE

Sri Nuteti Appaiah (father of Guruvaiah), Vippagunta

Venkatramaiah and Penchalaiah of Nagula Vellaturu village have

reached the Abode of Supreme Serenity, Golagamudi, at around

eleven in the night. Having concluded that food won’t be avail-

able at that late night, they offered prostrations to Swamy and

went to the Anjaneya Swamy temple for taking rest. Padarenuvu

who was in the service of Gurudeva went to the Anjaneya Swamy

temple at that time. He noticed the three persons discussing some

village affairs. When Padarenuvu asked them whether they had

food, they told, what’s to eat at this mid-night hour. But, whoever

stepped into the ashram, they should not feel the pangs of hunger

or thirst. That’s why, Gurudeva, the Divine Mother, often used to

say, ‘ayya, ensure all facilities’. Upon knowing that the trio had not

taken any food, Padarenuvu along with his friend Vekatayya went

into the village and collected cold rice (stored in water for early

dawn consumption) from the village dwellers. Pressing the rice to

filter the water content, they took the rice in a tiffin box and reached

the ashram. After satisfying the three guests with the food offer-

ing, all of them (including Padarenuvu) went to the Anjaneya Swamy

temple. The trio discussed with Padarenuvu about the mounting

tensions between Kotturu-Pathuru of Nagula Vellaturu village and

how the villagers were living in the grip of fear and death. Imme-

diately, Padarenuvu told that when the Omnipotent Gurudeva was

dwelling in our hearts, there’s nothing to fear about. Saying so, he

took them to the old ashram where Gurudeva was supposed to be

resting. The time was around two-o-clock in the night. At that

time, Gurudeva, the Universal Protector, was absorbed in singing

divine glories in praise of God. They all sat at the Lotus Feet of

Gurudeva. Padarenuvu pleaded, ‘Swamy, conflicts and differences

are taking place at Nagula Vellaturu village. Every moment people

are living in the grip of fear and death. Please save them’. Swamy

replied, ‘ayya, write a chit’.

Chit for Nagula Vellaturu village

Swamy, the Form of Mercy, the Divine Grace, the Savior of the

Suffering-Lot, the Rescuer from Misery, the Awakener of Truth!

Swamy, the Universal Creator, the Kaliyuga-Incarnate, all our vil-

lagers are suffering with untold misery. O Divine Father! The af-

fairs of the entire world take place under Your watchful eyes. We

plead You to shower an atom of mercy on our village so that we

shall be blessed to live in peace and joy. We prostrate at Your

Divine Lotus Feet. Except You, we have no other God in this world.

O Gurudeva, accept our revered prostrations.

Gurudeva took the chit and returned it with His Divine Blessed

Hands, saying, ‘ayya, let this chit be kept one night in the presence

of Goddess Ammani and place the chit in the temple the next day’.

Taking leave from Gurudeva, they all went back to Anjaneya Swamy

temple. Padarenuvu told that as per instructions of Gurudeva, they

should go to Talupuru on the next day night. There, they should

place the chit at the Lotus Feet of Goddess Ammani and on the

following day, the chit should be placed at Lord Rama’s temple.

After sleeping there, they left the place in the morning with

Gurudeva’s Srishti Cheeti.

On Sunday, the 23rd March, 1982, myself (Padarenuvu),

Golagamudi Venkataiah, Tirupati Venkata Munireddy have reached

Nagula Vellaturu at mid noon. The village looked totally isolated.

The women folk of the village came to Padarenuvu and told that

the two groups of villagers from Kothuru and Pathuru were getting

ready for a deadly fight in the evening on the outskirts of the vil-

lage, at the lake side. And, they were utmost concerned about the

outcome. Padarenuvu questioned, ‘amma, where are our people’.

They told, all of them have assembled at Sri Birinepalli

Ramanayya’s house in the village. When Padareuvu reached there,

the youths were sharpening deadly weapons, such as daggers,

spears etc., for the fight. They were in a fit of rage to fight. On

noticing Padarenuvu, they were surprised to see him at that point

of time, but, they stood-up as a mark of respect. Immediately

Padarenuvu gave the message of Gurudeva, ‘evil forces are rais-

ing’. Hence, He sent me here. Thus saying, Padarenuvu went into

the village. The words which Gurudeva brought to the mind of

Padarenuvu at that time and which were proclaimed as the com-

mand of Gurudeva had a miraculous impact on them. Yes, what a

wonder! The very moment when Padarenuvu passed the words of

Gurudeva as a Divine Command, from that very moment their mental

attitude changed and they desisted from proceeding further. The

far-off villagers of Pathuru have also bid farewell to their disas-

trous intentions. This is what is called as the Divine Play of

Bhagavan.

At that time, the Sristi Chiti of Guru Bhagavan was placed in

the temple of Sri Rama. When the temple of Guru Bhagavan is

completed, the chit was placed there. With the divine power of

the Creation and Gurudeva’s blessings at that time, till now no

untoward incident took place in the village; nor is likely to happen

in future.

SRI CHEKURU PITCHAIAH

During the year 1967, Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy

stayed at the sheds meant for the protection of poor children; which

were erected by Late Sri Yenugu Pattabhi Rami Reddy at

Kondayapalem gate, Dargamitta, Nellore. The problem of

Gurudeva’s ailment of stiffening legs was first noticed during that

year.

Revered Sri Jakka Venkata Krishna Reddy and Sri Chekuru

Pitchaiah have jointly put-up an electrical shop at Subedarpeta,

Nellore and were running the business. Sri Krishna Reddy had ut-

most faith in Gurudeva and was a fortunate person to lead such a

blessed life. When the knee joint of Swamy got stiff, Sri Jakka

Venkata Krishna Reddy felt very upset. He took Gurudeva in a car

to the ‘People’s Poly Clinic’ (the hospital was established by Late

Dr. Puchapalli Ramachandra Reddy, who was fondly called as ‘the

God of the poor people’. He was very courteous towards the poor

and the suffering. In 1956, Padarenuvu was shown livelihood by

him by offering a job in the Nellore Doctors Medical Stores) where

Dr. Jetti Sesha Reddy examined Him. After examining Gurudeva,

the doctor felt that there was no chance of curing Him with allopa-

thy medicines. Hence the doctor felt that if Gurudeva’s legs were

massaged daily by applying medicated oil, they would gradually

become painless and normal. While Gurudeva was returning back

in the car to Dargamitta, on the way Sri Jakka Venkata Krishna

Reddy stopped the vehicle before the shop of Sri Pitchaiah, who

had darshan of Gurudeva. Sri Krishna Reddy detailed him about Dr.

Sesha Reddy’s opinion.

Sri Pitchaiah was interested in ayurvedic treatments and rem-

edies. With self-experience, he prepared some combinations of

ayurvedic medicines and provided medication to those who vis-

ited him with some or the other ailments. He felt that why he

should not offer some remedial treatment to Gurudeva. With this

Satcharitra of Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy of Golagamudi466

opinion, he went to Darga Mitta in the same car. The moment

Pitchaiah had darshan of Gurudeva, his eyes enjoyed a feast of

divine delight. Till then he acquired unbound bliss in reciting

Guruedeva’s Divine Name. With the confluence of both the de-

lights, from that day he got himself dedicated at the service of

Gurudeva, the Guiding Light of Peace. He constantly remained in

the devout service of Gurudeva by applying ayurvedic oils, mas-

saging body and giving injections for about one year and three

months. Usually, Gurudeva never allowed anyone to touch His

Feet. Perhaps by the merit acquired in past births, the fortunate

Pitchaiah was able to serve Gurudeva, the Form of God Himself,

continuously for one year and three months. My hearty Pranams

to the virtuous person.

With the treatment-cum-service rendered by Sri Pitchaiah,

Gurudeva’s ailment got cured to a maximum extent. He was al-

most able to stretch His legs freely. He had a hope that in a day or

two, Gurudeva should be totally all right. With that delight Sri

Pitchaiah used to stay and serve all through the night and would

rush back to look after his business by day-break. By the time he

reached Gurudeva on the night; instead of anticipated improve-

ment, he found some deterioration. His hope-filled joy vanished.

Despite several injections and applying medicated oil, though at

times Gurudeva’s knee problem seemed vastly improved, suddenly

it seemed as further deteriorated. To the best of his abilities, Sri

Pitchaiah provided best-known treatment prescribed in the

Ayurvedic scriptures, but they all proved futile. Disgusted, he told,

‘Swamy, whatever best I had done, is the best of remedies to cure

You. But, there’s no improvement. If You know any medicine, I

shall get and use it’. On hearing this, Gurudeva said, áyya, if “kukka

puri mandu” is taken, I will be cured’. Sri Pitchaiah searched for

the name of the medicine, but he could not find it in any scrip-

tures. He even enquired with ayurvedic experts who told that the

name sounds peculiar and have no knowledge about its availabil-

ity. He also tried to give relief to Swamy by fixing springs between

the legs so that He could stretch the legs. Without concern of pain

to Swamy, Sri Pitchaiah used to keep the springs all through the

day and night and remove them on the following day. Even though

some relief seemed forthcoming, there was no expected relief at

all. Since no relief was felt despite his continous service, Sri

Pitchaiah doubted his own faith and devotion towards Gurudeva,

the Nectarine Ocean. With reverence, he said to Gurudeva, ‘Swamy,

despite constant treatment, there seems no respite. Is my toil a

sheer waste! Or, is it due to lack of true devotion towards You, it’s

happening like this’. The All-Knowing, the Omnipresent and the

Compassion Incarnate Gurudeva said, ‘ayya, it can’t be cured with

medicines. A little bit of Bhakti (devotion) will do’. Unable to grasp

the words of Gurudeva, he sat calmly before His Lotus Feet. The

divine saying of Gurudeva kept constantly echoeing in the cham-

bers of his heart. One day, while serving Gurudeva, Sri Pitchaiah

asked, ‘Swamy, is devotion required to those who render service’.

But, he had a feeling in heart that rendering service was more

valuable than being devout. Gurudeva, who was a trikala jnani

(having knowledge of past, present and future), merely responded

with a hearty smile. Sri Pitchaiah ultimately came to a conclusion

that the doubt which was persistently disturbing his mind was not

going to find any answer from Gurudeva, the Master Perfect .

Before he begins his service to Gurudeva during the nights,

Sri Pitchaiah gets strongly influenced by a feeling that he is serv-

ing a great godly person like Gurudeva. Absorbed in such feelings

of adoration, he forgets himself in a state of bliss. Physically while

he is absorbed in service and mentally absorbed in performing the

work, he dwells in a state of supreme bliss. In the morning, after

he settles in business, Sri Pitchaiah is often haunted by a feeling

that, how nice it would be if he is always absorbed in spiritual

thoughts. While such thoughts bother him in the morning, the

moment he sits before Gurudeva he experiences peace of mind.

Sri Pitchaiah often speculates that, it will be good if he ab-

sorbs himself in spiritual thoughts so that all his sins are washed

away. He wanted to clear his doubt through Gurudeva, as to, ‘what

is true and untrue’. One day while he was in His service, he pleaded

to know, ‘Swamy, we have committed so many sins, how can we

get rid of them?’. The Absolute Truth and the Creator of the Uni-

verse, Gurudeva, said, ‘ayya, whoever see My face, sins will stay a

thousand miles away. Keep it in mind’. Repeatedly getting en-

tangled in the cycle of birth, death and re-birth, Gurudeva’s words

are a rare boon. It is for certain that no human may ever receive

such a divine boon. Even the great sages who long to acquire the

boon to get rid of their sins by performing ritual like Japa, Tapa,

Yajna and Yaga have failed. And, this was not possible even by the

enlightened masters (Siddhas) who strive to seek salvation from

the ocean of samsara. Unable to know the beginning or end of the

creation, even the curious ascetics (Tapasvis) failed in their efforts

to be blessed with such a boon. But, such a glorious boon is be-

stowed upon those who render steadfast service at the Divine Feet

of the Divine Master, Gurudeva, the Universal Manifestation. Our

revered prostrations to Sadguru Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy for giv-

ing us such a great opportunity in this Kali Yuga to liberate humans

from the cycle of birth-death-rebirth. Sri Pitchaiah stood spell-

bound like a statute on hearing these nectarine and blissful words

of Gurudeva, the Indweller of Our Hearts. In the Divine Glow of

Gurudeva, Sri Pitchaiah came to senses after a while from the trance

of ecstacy. Sri Pitchaiah felt that the saying of Gurudeva, the Great-

est of the Great (Paratpara); as ear-pleasing, auspicious and bliss-

ful. He implanted not only the divine saying of Gurudeva in his

heart of hearts, but as well His Auspicious Form and recollected

them as often as he could.

Gurudeva is the Form of compassion, the Statue of Bliss and

the Form of Love. To the dualities of ‘love is God and God is love’,

He is the Form of Parabrahma and the Form of God-Incarnate who

transformed the ‘dualities’ into ‘oneness’. It is the recitation of

Divine Name, Gurudeva, which removes the worldly sufferings. And,

for the service rendered by Sri Pitchaiah, Gurudeva heard His re-

vered devotee’s appeal and fondly said, ‘abhayam sattva

samsuddhi’ (B.Gita Ch. 16-1). Saying so, He assured not only pro-

tection but fearlessness. Gurudeva, the Supreme Master, incar-

nated on this earth for the very purpose of protecting the lives of

the scared people and for averting likely calamities. By offering a

state of rapture of absorption into the supreme spirit

(brahmanandamu) and purifying us to be sin-free and by impart-

ing the sacred words supposed to have spiritual potency (Mantra),

He is paving a way for us to move a step ahead for attaining lib-

eration. Can we repay our debt to Gurudeva, the Godly Form of

Lord Narayana? What more an illustration can we give to prove

that nothing competes with that of God’s Love? Though we are

incapable of repaying His Divine Help, if we atleast worship Him

with Trikaranasuddhi, i.e., in word, thought and deed, we will defi-

nitely be showered with His Love and Affection and as well recieve

His Divine Shelter. The entire universe is filled with the divine

atoms and the universe itself is God. The sacred dust-particles of

His Holy Feet are bound to show the path for salvation. And, It is

Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy, who is the God Incarnate of

Kali Yuga. He is the one who has unfolded the secrets of creation

(Sristi), protection (Stithi) and destruction (Laya) to the world. In a

bid to ensure that human lives have a source to reach the Lotus

Feet of Lord Narayana, He implants a grand wish in the great per-

sons and compels them to get absorbed in self-realization so as to

attain salvation. Let us surrender with utmost reverence to

Gurudeva, the Form of Parabrahma.

Sri Pitchaiah is one such disciple who with his dedicated ser-

vice received the blessings of Gurudeva. Once, when His disciple

was absorbed in His service at midnight, Gurudeva strongly felt

like unfolding the secret of creation to His sishya. He questioned

him, ‘ayya, I know how to feed the ants. Do you have that ability?

Before the Perfect Master, with a heart totally absorbed in bliss, Sri

Pitchaiah’s ears felt delighted upon hearing Gurudeva’s words of

glory. He said excitedly, ‘Swamy, I dont know’. Gurudeva, the Form

of Maha Vishnu, the Protector of Universe and the Kali Yuga

Avatara, told His most beloved disciple, ‘ayya, get a little box hav-

ing a lid (bharina) and place some ants in it. I shall feed them. Are

you interested to acquire that knowledge’?

Satcharitra of Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy of Golagamudi470

In the day-to-day life, wrecked by relentlessly struggling to

cross-over the ocean of samsara, who can be so fortunate to hear

the divine words of Gurudeva, the Other Form of Lord Narayana?

By the virtue of merits accrued during the past-births, one among

a crore of people is entitled to receive that unique merit. And, one

such person was Sri Pitchaiah.

While Sri Pitchaiah was absorbed in a state of delight by the

Divine Words of Gurudeva, the Heavenly Father, with unbound grace

towards Pitchaiah told, ‘ayya, do you want to know’. Observing

the radiance surrounding Gurudeva’s Divine Face and feeling mes-

merized, he said, ‘why do I need it Swamy’. The one who was

blessed with the presence of God Supreme, what else did he re-

quire except to stay in His Divine Shelter at His Divine Feet. What’s

the necessity to know about the incredible and beyond-human-

grasp Divine Sport?

Gurudeva, the Shelter of Belief, in a bid to relieve the suffer-

ings of His devotees and as well as to fulfill their wishes, would

offer the blessed Srishti Chits; which are acknowledged. And, He

foretells His action plan to perform certain acts of ‘creation’ in a

divine language which human wit cannot grasp even. Upon which,

the God in Human Form would bestow divinity on the srishti cheetilu

and offer them to the devotees. Since the blessed messages origi-

nate and get approved by none other than Gurudeva, the Creator

of the Universe, the ‘Chits’ are called as ‘Srishti Cheetilu’.

Engrossed in the service at Gurudeva’s Divine Feet, Sri

Pitchaiah had a long-standing doubt in his heart and was waiting

for an opportunity to clear it. One fine day, that opportunity had

dawned. He told, ‘Swamy, I am unable to understand the essence

of Srishti Cheetilu’. Swamy, the Supreme Being and the Heavenly

Mother of the Universe, said, ‘ayya, don’t keep trying till you un-

derstand them. When necessity arises, they themselves are under-

stood by you’. The secret of the creation is mysterious and is be-

yond the grasp of human intellect. What Swamy intended to cau-

tion His disciple is that, why in this short-span of life one should

make fuitile attempts to unfold things which are beyond human

intellect? That is, like leaving the “one in hand” and attempting to

catch “another” and losing both in the process. At the same time,

not to disappoint His disciple, He said, ‘If necessity arises, they

themselves are understood by you’. That is, when the right time

comes, Gurudeva Himself shall take the responsibility to steer the

boat of his life to a safe shore and bless with salvation. Hearty

pranams to Gurudeva, the Divine One, who Showers Mercy on the

Shelter Seekers.

While Sri Pitchaiah was totally absorbed in the service at the

Divine Feet of Gurudeva with unflinching faith, Gurudeva intended

to give him a hint on the worldly activities associated with the

sinful world of the unenlightened beings. At the same time, He

wanted to demonstrate His Omnipresence and Omniscience to Sri

Pitchaiah. O, devout listeners! We are going to rejoice a glorious

occurrence of event.

Immensely pleased by Sri Pitchaiah’s supreme selfless ser-

vice, Gurudeva decided to bestow upon His beloved disciple the

greatest boon of ‘divine protection’; the verdict of which was go-

ing to be in the form of a written swearing; which was demon-

strated through a small act. Usually, people caught in the worldly

disputes do seek shelter of courts for seeking justice. Paying the

prescribed court-fee for stamps was a basic requisite to file a writ

in the court. And so, Gurudeva, the Treasure of Supreme Virtue,

ordered Sri Pitchaiah to get court-fee stamps. Gurudueva, the

Godhead of Three-Crore-Gods, asked Sri Pitchaiah to write on a

stamped paper, the words, ‘I possess a half in this Kali Yuga. Since

you are performing, it will be rewarding’. Gurudeva wanted to let

know His devotee that, He was the All Knowing God-incarnate in

Human Form; and, as a reward, Sri Pitchaiah was assured with the

verdict of receiving the resultant fruit for his supreme selfless ser-

vice. Prostrations to the Divine Manifestation!

Gurudeva, the Creator of the Creation, told Sri Pitchaiah in a

Divine Language (Devanagarika Basha), ‘ayya, there are two lamp

posts in the sea. Swamy stood guard for twelve years. Write it down’.

Though it was impossible to understand the words with all avail-

able resources of human wit, Swamy, the Charming and Merciful

Lord, showed the path of majesty to his beloved disciple to reach

His Divine Feet. Whoever emboss His Ever-True Teaching in heart

and recite His Sacred Name, can Gurudeva keep away from such a

sanctified heart’s temple? No ! To such people, ‘the world is an

illusion and the Supreme Being is the absolute truth’. It is the na-

ked truth that such meritorious persons are bound to merge in the

Supreme Personality of Godhead (Para Brahmam). When devo-

tees get absorbed in rendering His Service, Gurudeva, the Supreme

Bliss, exposes His Divine Presence in the creation by entertaining

them with thought-provoking idle stories (pitta kathalu). Sri

Pitchaiah is blessed to hear one such entertaining story at an

auspicious time from Gurudeva.

Once while passing through a forest, “yerra katla puli”

(red-striped tiger) pounced, saying ‘ah’ and it stopped

abruptly upon saying ‘aha’.

Can we either understand or can grasp the essence of the

divine language of God? It is beyond the grasp of human intellect.

Rejoicing the words and leaving the essence to the Creator-God, if

His Divine Name is made to echo in the chambers of heart, what a

blessed life it will indeed be!

In those days, Sri Pitchaiah, the beloved devotee of Gurudeva

was staying with his family at Nellore. One day Gurudeva, the

Indweller of Our Hearts, permitted his disciple to shift to Kovur

town with his family and to do business there. Pitchaiah told doubt-

fully; ‘Swamy, I will shift to Kovur as per Your instructions. But I

don’t find any good prospects for running the business there’. The

All-Knowing Swamy, assuredly said, ‘ayya, on any day whenever

you don’t get money in your business, just go wandering and return

back. Money will come on its own’. Cleared of all apprehensions

by Gurudeva, the Grantor of Wisdom, Sri Pitchaiah merely changed

his residence to Kovur during 1974. He used to make to-and-fro

journeys between Nellore and Kovur. After a few days, Sri Pitchaiah

chose a suitable location for running business and totally shifted

his dwelling place to Kovur. Since the place was new, he suffered

financially due to low turn out of business transactions. At times

he was unable to make a business of even a rupee till evening.

Fed-up by simply sitting without business from morning till evening

and having lost hopes of getting customers, he would roam alone

in and around the nearby railway station and return back with agi-

tated mind and dejection. By that time, one or two persons would

be waiting for him and he felt relieved to some extent. Slowly

settled, Sri Pitchaiah would recollect the assuring and nectarine

words of Gurudeva. He was a virtuous and fortunate person who

offered selfless supreme service to Gurudeva. But, caught in a

whirlpool in the ocean of sansara, Sri Pitchaiah was unable to fo-

cus his thoughts on Gurudeva. Instead he would recollect Gurudeva

only when dire necessity arose. When the nectarine words of

Gurudeva struck his mind, his proximity while in service at His Di-

vine Feet reflected in his eyes along with His Glowing Divine Form.

Recollecting those cherishing memories, with moist eyes, Pitchaiah

would think, ‘’Aha! This is the boat of life to sail, which is blessed

to him by Swamy, the Eternal Light’’. He would douse himself in

blissful illusions that he was at the Divine Feet of Swamy.

Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Gurudevo Maheswara :- Guru (the

Master) is Brahma (Who plants the qualities of goodness), he is

Vishnu (Who nurtures and fosters the qualities of goodness), he is

Maheswara (Who weeds out the bad quality) and Guru is the Su-

preme Master Himself. Whoever surrender totally to a Supreme

Master, He will bless such righteous disciples with auspiciousness

not only in this world but extends the same to other celestial worlds.

Sri Pitchaiah left to Mudigedu village from Nellore, to have

darshan of the Lotus Feet of Srivaru. After having darshan, he took

permission of Gurudeva to go back. Keeping aside his required

bus fare, he placed the excess amount of Rs. 2/- at the Divine Feet

of Gurudeva, as a token of gift. Usually, Gurudeva accepts such

gifts from His beloved devotees, but, this time He told, ‘ayya, keep

this with you only’. One way, he felt disheartened by the words of

Gurudeva, with a thought that, was there anything wrong with him-

self for the rejection. But on the other hand, he has to abide by

Gurudeva’s instruction. Hence, Sri Pitchaiah had no other go ex-

cept to take back the amount. Boarding a bus on the Mudigedu

road and after proceeding a mile or so, the bus tyre got punctured.

He suspected something inauspicious about the event and having

felt that Podalakuru village was not far away; he went walking

upto there and boarded another bus to Nellore. Was it a wonder or

what! After the bus moved a mile or so, again the same thing re-

curred to the bus and all the passengers got down. From there,

Nellore was far away and it was a tough task to walk such a long

distance. At this moment when Pitchaiah put his hand in the pocket,

he felt the touch of money coins, which Gurudeva declined to ac-

cept. Instantly, he felt, ‘’Aha! I have enough money to go by bus to

Nellore’’. With utmost delight, he concluded, it was the reason as

to why the All-knowing Gurudeva refused to accept the amount.

Reciting His Divine Name, he safely reached Nellore.

In this creation, humans are bound to play the role as de-

creed and directed by the Creator and everyone is a mere pawn in

His hands. Whatever role He decides and at whatever time and

place He Wills; everyone is destined to abide by His order. But,

can the Heavenly Father on whom His devout and faithful sons

totally rely by word, thought and deed; will He allows something

untoward happen to them?

He provides shelter and protects us at any given time and

place. Birth after birth, even if we serve such a Supremely God;

can we secure a place similar to that of a dust particle at His Sa-

cred Feet? Rendering selfless service is the right choice to reach

His Divine Proximity (sannidhi). O! Listeners and devotees! I nar-

rate a saying of Gurudeva …

‘whoever feels hungry, offer them food’

‘whoever is in trouble, offer them a helping hand’

Gurudeva, the Creator, Savior and the Witness, said, ‘I dwell

in every living creature of the creation, consisting of 84 crore living

beings. Hence, every form is Venkaiah Himself. He is the one who

is ‘this Swamy’ and Swamy Himself is ‘Venkaiah’. Whoever abides

and follows Gurudeva’s orders, not only shall they reach His Di-

vine Feet but shall certainly get absorbed into His Divine Self. This

is the eternal truth.

Hence, the proverbial saying, ‘service to humanity is service

to God’ is a common saying from times immemorial.

It was but common for the virtuous disciples like Sri Pitchaiah

and Sri Jakka Venkata Krishna Reddy to be at Gurudeva’s Devout

Service every day after closing their business. One such day, after

locking their shops, the shop employee Chi Ashok was invited to

have darshan of Gurudeva, the Charming Lord. But, Sri Ashok did

not heed to his owner’s advice and left as usual. Both the dis-

ciples left and were engaged in the service of Gurudeva. Exactly

at two-o-clock in the night, Ashok came to Dargamitta for darshan

of Gurudeva, the Supreme Being. On seeing him at that odd-hour,

Sri Pitchaiah asked, ‘why have you come at this odd-time?’ Ashok’s

silence gave the answer to his question. Till that time, Gurudeva,

the Supreme Godhead, who was self-absorbed in meditation to

restore worldly order; suddenly moved and sat nearby. To get rid

of worldly sufferings, people who came from far-off places be-

come alert and took-up their place upon noticing Gurudeva moving

and sitting at a place. With utmost eagerness they were waiting

to hear the discourse of Gurudeva. While several devotees were

paying prostrations and expressing their worldly woes, Swamy, the

Ever-Watchful Master, stationed His Divine Looks on Chi. Ashok

who was sitting afar and gestured at him with His Merciful Hand

to come to Him. With the order of Gurudeva, Ashok came and sat

like a curled marigold flower. After having a glance at his form,

Gurudeva told, ‘ayya, lucky days are due to come. Go home’. He

spent the night at Gurudeva’s Protective Shelter. From that day he

bid farewell to alluring desires and was engrossed in his work with

peace of mind.

In fact, Chi. Ashok ought to spend a comfortable life in his

youthful days. But his life became miserable due to his meager

earnings. Unable to lead a normal life with that sort of livelihood,

he was totally dejected and felt tired of swimming the ocean of

life. At last he came to a strong conclusion to commit suicide on

that fateful night and decided to place his head underneath the

wheels of a running train. He went to the railway track situated

besides river Penna and sat near the tracks for the train to arrive.

What sort of luck he had in store, for neither a train passed that

way till one-o-clock in the night nor was his desire fulfilled. He

felt that even his wish to commit suicide is not fulfilled. Suddenly

a thought came to him to have darshan of Gurudeva, whose glory

was acknowledged as God Supreme, after which, he desired to

fulfill his quest to die. So, he ran at high speed to Dargamitta from

Penna river which was about five miles away and reached the

Abode of Gurudeva. But, ‘without Your Will, even a leaf can’t move’.

This narrative line from Gurudeva’s prayer demonstrates the Di-

vine Truth to the present times that this incident is a standing ex-

ample and proof of Gurudeva’s Divinity.

The human life has a prescribed time limit. We should not

give scope to curtail the ordained life span on our own. And, when

God Himself draws us close to Him and demonstrates His Divine

Sport, all such efforts would prove futile. The one Who heads the

Anda, Pinda and Brahmanda (Anda is the combination of Padartha

(matter) and Prana (life principle). Pinda is that which is born out

of the mother’s womb. Ultimately, they become one with the

Brahmanda); is well aware of every thing about every living being.

Every being is given a ‘life-span’ with a certain purpose to accom-

plish certain duties in that given span. And, even if a person plans

to curtail the destined life out of frustration or compelling circum-

stances, the plan can neither be implemented nor executed. Nev-

ertheless, if the life-span of a person is destined to end, the All-

Powerful and the All-Pervading Parameswara, if willing to rewrite

the destined-scripted life-span, He can do so by blessing a new

lease of life to that person.

Perhaps, He is the Form of Parabrahma (The Supreme Being;

one who is beyond space and time that is with form and without

form. It is the Supreme creator) and Purushottama (the Supreme

Soul of the Universe); who incarnated in the world in a human form.

He appears with features of serenity and innocence to the human-

ity which are enveloped within the layers of illusions (maya) and

seems as if dwelling at unnoticed places. It is He who dwells in

the conscious, sub-conscious and super-conscious states of every

human being and it is He who bless them in accordance to their

merits and demerits (a person’s actions and the consequences

thereof). It is His Divine Sport to liberate humans from the chains

of karmic sufferings. To such a Supreme Godhead, there’s nothing

beyond His Supreme Knowledge.

But knowing everything and existing in everything, He blesses

the world. What is there that is unknown to Him?

The range of sound (shabdha) is the basic cause of inception

of the creation. It is Parameswara who shaped the basis of this

creation. The Form of Parameswara Himself has incarnated in this

Kali Yuga as Gurudeva. The nectarine words communicated by

Gurudeva, the Guardian of Humanity, stand witness to the basic

range of sound (shabdha pramanamu). Even to the responding

words of witness, Gurudeva, the Form of Compassion, Himself is

the witness. The-then protective blessings of the Divine Father

Gurudeva, ‘ayya, lucky days are due to come. Go home’; means, ‘I

am with you like a shadow in your conscious, sub-conscious and

super-conscious state’. This is the absolute truth. With the result

of the blessed words, Ashok’s life got flooded with prosperity.

With the blessings of the Divine Shelter, Gurudeva, within a

week, Chi Ashok received a letter from his maternal aunty from

Visakapatnam. It is mentioned that a job is made available to him

in the office of Exide Battery. When Ashok showed the letter to his

employer, Sri Pitchaiah happily sent him by providing required train

fare to go to Visakapatnam. After working there for some days he

secured another job at Visakapatnam harbor. There, in recogni-

training program to America. After returning back from the train-

ing, he got promoted to a top-post. Securing a good name and

repute, presently he is staying with his wife and children at

Hyderabad.

With unexpected and likely turn of events in the days to come,

we cannot guess as to what heights of progress and prosperity Sri

Ashok is going to reach. All this was made possible by Gurudeva’s

Divine Grace.

in the Form of Absolute Truth in every atom of the entire creation.

already served eight spiritual mas-

ters (Gurus)’, but he could not find a suitable and reliable Guru

amongst them. Hence, he withdrew from their service. He was

feeling dejected for the reason that he had not come across any

Guru upon whom he can totally rely and who can awaken his inner-

self and assist him to safely cross the ocean of life. At that time,

like a god-sent message, he came to know that a great saint

Venkaiah Swamy is present at a place called Ankalamma Botu.

But, Sri Dasayya failed in all his efforts for a period of one year to

be blessed with His darshan. Yet, In the dark tunnel of despair, he

found a ray of hope. That is, the advent of Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri

Venkaiah Swamy to Golagamudi, the Heaven on Earth. In fact,

God is the slave of a true devotee. To fulfill such a devotee’s wish,

Gurudeva, the Wish-Fulfilling Tree came to Golagamudi.

Sri Dasayya straight away came to Golagamudi, the Refuge

of the Suffering. There, he noticed a group of Swamys with long

moustache and beards chatting with each other. Unable to distin-

guish who the real Swamy was, Dasayya questioned them, ‘ayya,

who among you is Venkaiah Swamy’? They said, Swamy was not

amongst the group and directed him to go inside, where he would

find Swamy, the Creator Himself, giving the blessed chits and the

divine impressions of His hand to the devotees. Swamy gave

darshan to Sri Dasayya along with His disciples at the residence of

Sri Korakuti Venkaiah Naidu. On that day, He was in the company

of disciples like Sri Kolla Chalama Naidu, Sri Jayarama Raju, Sri

Narayana Swamy, Sri Peddaiah Raju and Sri Laxmaiah Naidu. With

utmost reverence Sri Dasayya kneeled at the Holy Feet of Swamy

and received His blessings. At the very instance of Swamy’s touch,

he felt enlightened to realize that Swamy is the Perfect Master for

whom he is thirsting all through. With a surging delight, Sri Dasayya

clasped the Divine Feet of Swamy. Looking at Dasayya with com-

passion, Swamy blessedly said, ‘ayya, straight away you go home

now. I will come to your house by dawn’. He rushed home with joy

unbound and is waiting impatiently by counting minute-after-

minute as to when it would dawn and when would Swamy sanctify

his house with His Divine Presence.

At about 4.00 AM he went out to welcome and receive

Gurudeva on the way itself. That very moment, Gurudeva, the Heav-

enly Father, left Golagamudi to Penubarthi village to fulfill and bless

His son-like beloved devotee. Gurudeva and Dasayya both met mid-

way on the road. Around 7.00 in the morning, Swamy, the Form of

Sriman Narayana and the Kali Yuga Daivam, sanctified not only

the village but as well as the house of Sri Dasayya with His Holy

Feet and stayed there. With the presence of Gurudeva, the Merci-

ful God, there was no rest or relief from devotees coming in crowds

for having darshan of Swamy. Staying there for three days and

three nights, Gurudeva blessed all those who had His darshan and

pleased them with ever-new delights. Thrilled after having His

darshan, Poojyasri Vallapu Reddy Tulasamma requested Dasayya

to invite Swamy to her house. Accepting her request, Swamy stayed

at Tulusamma’s house for three days. Wherever Gurudeva opts to

stay, it is but common that the place would resound with singing

of devotional hymns accompanied by bhajans. Absorbed by taking

part by singing bhajans, Gurudeva would feel captivated and de-

lighted. From there, Swamy started his journey back to Golagamudi,

the Treasure of Delight and Sri Dasayya too followed Him. After

reaching there, Sri Dasayya was engaged in procuring firewood

from the forest for performing of Holy Rituals with Fire, with which

Gurudeva usually involves. In the process he got associated with

Sri Komaragiri Ramanaiah.

Sri Ramanaiah was having a cart drawn by he-buffaloes, which

was utilized for transporting firewood to the ashram. One day,

they were about to cut a large Jammi Chettu (Sami tree = botanical

name Prosopis spicegera) at the lake near Sarvepalli village. Upon

noticing, Gurudeva stopped them from axing the tree and they

stopped from doing so, by His Order. After they returned back

after making several such rounds, Gurudeva showed them another

Sami tree for the purpose. While Sri Ramanaiah struck the tree at

its base, Sri Dasayya removed the stems and twigs. As the log

was too heavy for the duo to lift and place it on the cart; they

rolled it instead to the lower portion of the cart and tied one end of

the log to it. But, when they tried to lift the other end of the log,

they could not. While they were planning to gather some disciples

from the ashram to accomplish the work, Gurudeva, walking that

way, said, ‘ayya, it cannot be lifted unless people who eat Pulav (a

steamed rice dish prepared with meat) are called to lift it’. They

could not understand the inner meaning of what Gurudeva said.

As a last attempt, they tried to lift the heavy log with the help of a

strong rope. What a surprise! The weight which cannot be lifted

even by ten persons was easily lifted like a cotton pack. They tied

the log to the rear end of the cart with ropes. By that time the

Omnipotent Swamy came over there. To enlighten the truth to His

Disciples that ‘even the impossible becomes possible’ by the word-

power of the Creator (Brahma Vakku), Gurudeva demonstrated the

Divine Sport. Later Swamy said, ‘you move the cart slowly. I will

come behind you’. At last they could unload the huge log at the

ashram. Guruswamy felt unbound joy.

Both Dasayya and Ramanaiah were absorbed in the service

of Gurudeva. One morning they noticed Gurudeva sitting in a cart.

Shouting for Dasayya, He asked him to get the cart ready to move.

While Sri Ramanaiah was managing the bulls, Swamy sat in the

middle, while Sri Dasayya sat in the rear side of the cart on the

plank. All of them went to the forest. There, the cattle were

unyoked from the cart. But, the disciples did not observe the packet

brought by Swamy. Gurudeva, the Divine Love, gave the pack to

sishyas and asked them to share it equally. When they opened the

pack, they found a two-kg block of sugar candy. Ah! Have you

noticed the Grace of Gurudeva towards His disciples! They started

in the morning and the Heavenly Father with an intention not to

starve them, took care of their hunger. By giving the sweet offer-

ing to douse their hunger, He instructed them to engross in their

entrusted works. By leaving His blanket there itself, Swamy asked

His disciples to complete the work and to leave the place. Saying

so, He left the place.

As instructed, both the disciples returned back to the ashram

by collecting the required firewood. After one hour Swamy came

back to ashram. During the night when Swamy was calmly seated

before the Holy Fire, Sri Dasayya slowly reached His Divine Feet

and asked, ‘Swamy, you roam on the hills and forests. How can we

find You’? Swamy said, ‘upon reaching the hill-top, if I watch in the

mirror, the distance is just a measure of four-finger breadth

(betthedu). If you keep on seeing Me, I shall be seeing at you’. The

next day morning, Sri Dasayya pleaded, ‘Swamy, if You perform

eight Holy Fire rituals, we shall sanctify our lives by watching the

event’. Gurudeva said, ‘if you bring firewood, shall not I execute

it’. Taking three others and three carts with them, they went to the

forest and brought three cart loads of firewood to the ashram.

There, they made arrangement of eight spots for performing eight

Holy Fire rituals. As arranged, Gurudeva lit the Holy Fire in the

arranged spots and asked Sri Ramanaiah to look after the other

seven. Gurudeva Himself sat before one such Holy Fire place. All

through the night Sri Dasayya served them by fetching the required

water from nearby well and thereby sanctified his life. While it

was about to dawn, Swamy said, ‘ayya, we should not stay here

anymore. Come on, let us go to Penavarty’.

By six-o-clock in the morning they reached the house of

Tulasamma at Penavarty. Swamy, the Supreme Personality, per-

formed the rituals of Holy Fire for one week and offered His Blessed

Hand (Mudra) Impressions to the devotees. Sri Chelama Naidu

said, ‘Swamy, ten days are over since we came. Let us move that

way to Nalagondalu’. Then, Swamy said, ‘ayya Chelama Naidu, if

we don’t go to the house of Sri Dasayya, can my tone remain calm’.

They all went to Sri Dasayya’s house where His Hand Impressions

were offered and later they left to Golagamudi, the Divine Shelter

of Delight. There, they stayed for ten days. Though the sishyas

were frequently arguing with each other in the ashram, undisturbed,

Swamy is engrossed in His own Divine Acts. Felt disgusted with

the frequent arguments and quarrels amongst disciples, Sri Dasayya

stood-up and asked, ‘Swamy, I cannot stay in the atmosphere of

arguments and quarrels. I want to go back home’. Swamy asked

him three times, ‘’won’t you stay! Won’t you stay! Won’t you stay’’!

Saying so, Swamy stood-up and asked him to give in writing that

he would not stay there. Sri Dasayya realized his fault and begged

Swamy to forgive him. Then, Swamy said, ‘if we let go an antelope

(ledi pilla, sibling of a deer), can we catch it again? Even if you

want to go, would I let you go’? Sri Dasayya asked, ‘how can we

identify our sheep when it rushes into a flock of a thousand sheep’.

Swamy said, ‘straight away if we drag it out by its leg, won’t it

come out?’

Sri Dasayya went to Sarvepally on some personal work and

staying there for a day, he was returning back to the ashram of

Golagamudi, the Abode of Peace. On the way, like a miracle of

Gurudeva, the Cosmic Form, he noticed over 200 axed tree trunks

of Bontha manu (Euphorbia antiquorum) lying in an open place

near to Tikkavarppadu village. Sri Dasayya’s joy knew no bounds.

The place was leveled by the villagers for constructing huts for

habitation. Sri Dasayya reached the ashram in a hurry. At that

time Sri Ramanaiah was in the service of Gurudeva. He told

Ramanaiah that, ‘’we are lucky indeed and there is no need to go

to any forest for the next ten days. Let us make two trips a day and

bring the cactus tree logs in the cart’’.

Swamy woke-up in the early hours at 4.00 and called Sri

Dasayya. Immediately he took the axe and other requirements for

procuring firewood and woke-up Sri Ramanaiah who was sleeping

at the Anjaneya Swamy Temple. They readied the cart, went to the

place and brought a cart-load of cactus logs, stems, twigs etc. and

reached the ashram by mid-noon. The next day, a villager objected

after the loaded cart was about to move. Sri Dasayya told him that

the firewood was meant for Swamy’s Holy Fire rituals and hence

requested to allow the cart load as the final one. The villager con-

ceded the request and allowed the cart to go. On the third day

too, cactus logs, stems, twigs etc. were loaded in the cart. But the

villagers objected saying that the firewood was sold away to a

potter community person. However after repeated requests and

persuasion the cart-load was allowed to go and it was unloaded at

the ashram. Ramanaiah and Dasayya told, ‘Swamy, the villagers

are strongly objecting to give the firewood’. Then, Swamy told them

to carry with them a chit written for the purpose. Surprisingly, no

villager objected when they went there and transported the entire

firewood to the ashram at two cart-loads a day. Swamy, the Lap of

Love, seeing them said, ‘ayya, place a long hamper (jalla) on the

cart, go over there and gather the leftovers with hands and get

them here’. When it was brought and kept for the Holy Fire ritual,

Gurudeva utilized it with pleasure.

One day in the nearby Golagamudi forest, the inmates of the

ashram cut down a big Jammi Chettu (Sami tree = botanical name

Prosopis spicegera) belonging to Sri Tikkavarapu Sankara Naidu,

Sri Golagamudi Appa Rao and Sri Kasi Sundaraiah. They came to

the ashram along with some villagers, abused the ashram inmates

for cutting the shade-giving tree and threatened to attack them.

On noticing this, Swamy asked Dasayya, ‘ayya, write a chit and

give it to me’. He took the chit, stationed His Divine Looks over it

and placed it beneath the mat. On that day they have not gone to

the forest for the firewood. Next day morning at 8 o’ clock, Sri

Appa Rao who bursted with anger at the inmates of the ashram

came rushing to Swamy, the Destroyer of Fears, and said that ex-

cept for the lime (neem) tree they could cut down all other trees.

Nobody was going to object it. From the next day, as usual the

disciples continued to procure firewood.

One morning, two persons said to be skilled in witchcraft

wanted to experiment their skills on Gurudeva, the Divine Mani-

festation. They sat under the lime tree outside the ashram and

were deeply involved in performing witchcraft to prove their skills.

Omniscient and Omnipotent Gurudeva, looking as if He was en-

gaged in His Divine Rituals, wanted to teach them a befitting les-

son. He asked His sishyas to put more firewood in the Holy Fire

and sat in a similar posture adopted by the witchcraft people. They

got confused. They were unable to get-up from their position or

were able to move out from there. In the afternoon, compassion-

ate Gurudeva told His disciples, ‘ayya, offer food to the two per-

sons sitting under the tree and send them away by giving two ru-

pees for the bus fare’. With these simple words of Gurudeva, they

were able to get up from the seating posture. Pleading excuses,

they fell on the Feet of Gurudeva and left the place after having

food in the ashram.

When sishyas go out on some ashram work, Swamy would not

take food until and unless the disciples return back and have their

food. How Sympathetic was Compassionate Swamy!

After staying at Golagamudi, the Source of Abundant Life and

Joy, for ten days, Swamy went to Tulasamma’s house at Penavarty.

After staying a day at her house, the next day He went to the house

of Sri Dasayya. There were some differences between Sri Dasayya

and his brother-in-law Sri Adisesha Reddy. They put-forth the prob-

lems existing between them to Gurudeva. Upon hearing their ar-

guments, Gurudeva, the Auspicious Form, went to the boundary of

both the houses and looking at the drumstick tree in Dasayya’s

house, said, ‘no quarrel can crop-up between a bitter guard plant

and a drumstick tree’. Those who were present there could not

understand what He said. Swamy drew a line with His own hand

between both the houses and commandingly said, ‘you stay out-

side the line and you stay inside the line’. From that day, their prob-

lem was permanently resolved. Later, Gurudeva returned to

Golagamudi.

One day, suddenly at about 4.00 in the evening, Gurudeva

asked His sishyas to assemble, and said, ‘I have to undertake the

stage of ‘Samadhi’, dig a pit’. Everybody was shocked and stood

dumbstruck. He hurried them to get the pit dug on the west side of

the ashram near the lime tree; admeasuring a length of nalugu

mooralu (4 cubits), moodu moorala (3 cubits) breadth and moodu

moorala (3 cubits) depth (1 moora = a cubit length). After getting

the pit dug-up, Swamy, the Supreme Being, said, ‘throw me into

the pit’. Disciples arranged a mat in the pit and rested Swamy on

it. By that time itself Swamy’s legs became stiff. After lying down

in the pit for one hour, He asked His sishyas to lift Him up and to

keep outside. Obliging Gurudeva’s orders, the disciples rested Him

outside the pit. The routine chores of ashram were going as usual.

Gurudeva went to Penavarty village and stayed there. In that

village, on the west side of the field belonging to Sri Dasayya, for

the past 12 years, it became a routine feature that one person dies

every year under mysterious circumstances. The villagers could

not find any reason for this alarming happening. Sri Dasayya ex-

plained Gurudeva about the recurring evil. He went to the four

corners of the field and said, ‘ayya, this is the field which in fact is

saving your life’. After loitering in the field for a while, Swamy

went to the other field beside it and examined the spot where the

death of a person was occurring every year. Swamy slept there

that morning and did not wake-up till evening. He got up in the

night and said, let us go away from this place.

Reclining in the Eternal Abode of the Spiritual World

(Vykuntapuri), Lord Sriman Narayana is protecting the entire uni-

verse. It is He who incarnated on the earth in the name and form

as ‘Venkaiah Swamy’. The place where He rested, there the sins,

fears and evils were reduced to ashes. The place acquired unique

sacredness, for the merit of which all tragic and recurring events

have been averted, once and for all. And, the field where Gurudeva

slept, was yielding bumper harvest and revenue.

On a Sivaratri day, Chintapalli Ravamma of Penuvarthi village,

while preparing to have darshan of Balayogi of Mummadivaram,

reached Golagamudi to seek blessings of Gurudeva. After having

darshan, she told Sri Dasayya who was present there, ‘Dasayya,

let us visit Balayogi, see him, and come back’. Immediately Swamy

said, ‘why Dasayya? You want to go and come back after seeing a

relatively small person (chinnodu)’. Dasayya instantly said, ‘what

Swamy, lakhs of people are visiting him’. Swamy at once said, ‘Oh!

Does he have even half-an-anna (one anna is equal to 6 paise) of

income. Ayya, going to the external world after death, persons

from the celestial world will question him as to what he has done

their distress is a perfect yogi.

Gurudeva, the Cosmic Form, told Ravamma, ‘amma, wash your

hands and legs, go to the Anjaneya Swamy temple, offer prostra-

tions there and go back home’. She did not stop, but instead pro-

ceeded to Mummadivaram village in a cart. On the way she fell

down from the cart and sustained injuries. Apart, thieves also

stole her belongings. After experiencing unforeseen hardships, at

last she came to Golagamudi. On seeing her at the ashram, Dasayya

told, ‘you were directed to go home, instead you proceeded’. She

kept quiet. Offering prostrations and Rs. 10/- as a divine offering

(dakshina), she left back home.

While offering the Sacred Finger Impressions (Mudra) to devo-

tees, looking at Dasayya, Swamy told, ‘ayya, do you want to get

married’? Dasayya replied, I had lost my wife twenty years ago.

Where’s the question of getting married now? Swamy told, you

will be liberated (married) and will be blessed with wisdom (son).

And, further said, the triple characteristics (trigunas) i.e., three fami-

lies in your village shall disappear.

Swamy asked Dasayya to construct a house. He said, ‘Swamy,

You ask me to construct a house. How is it possible without money’?

With a smile, Swamy blessedly said, ‘always money, money, money’.

And, that blessing had provoked Dasayya to construct a house.

The old structure was pulled down, the land was dug-up and the

foundation was laid. Wooden logs and concrete were readied to

begin the new construction. Swamy came to Tulasavva’s house

and stayed there. Without invitation from any one, Gurudeva made

rounds across the place of construction and came to the spot where

the foundation was laid. Sri Dasayya stood observing Swamy’s

actions. Swamy went to the place where bricks were arranged and

brought three bricks on His own and placed them at the spot of the

foundation. The construction of the house got completed within

three months. In this way, Sri Dasayya became purified in the ser-

vice of Swamy, the Absolute Truth.

SRI NUTETI ADEPA NAIDU

Sri Nuteti Adepa Naidu was a native of Nagula Vellaturu vil-

lage. By the virtue of merits acquired in his past births, Sri Nuteti

Adepa Naidu was blessed with the opportunity of rendering ser-

vice at Gurudeva’s Holy Feet. From the young age itself, he fre-

quented Swamy and there upon received His praises and bless-

ings. He concluded, ‘service at Gurudeva’s Divine Feet is the best

way to reach the path of salvation’.

Yearning to render service at the Divine Feet of Gurudeva, he

installed Gurudeva in his thought’s heart and at last succeeded in

reaching the abode of Serving Him. He surrendered himself at

Gurudeva’s service for two years. The leelas of Parameshwara are

unique and amazing. It is the Philosophy of God. Apart, it is but

natural that there exist discrepancies in the creation, such as, the

Satcharitra of Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy of Golagamudi 489

fortunately rich and the unfortunate poor ones. But, ‘in the view of

God’, there is no discrimination between the rich and poor.

Those were the days when Sri Adepa Naidu was in the service

of Gurudeva, the Indweller of Every Heart. One day Gurudeva

started in a bullock cart (drawn by two bullocks) to the forest to

procure some firewood for His Fire rituals. Sri Adepa Naidu, devo-

tees and other disciples were with Him. On the way, Gurudeva

saw a Yerukala (a caste renowned for expert hunting) caste person

who was leading a very poor life with his children in a small hut.

Swamy told Adepa Naidu, ‘ayya, you see, even these people are

able to live as well as those living in wealthy buildings’. Gurudeva

intended to demonstrate that ‘riches’ and ‘poverty’ were a part

and parcel of this creation. Similarly the differences like ‘eleva-

tion’ and ‘relegation’ were mere illusions and in His view both were

equal.

Gurudeva, the Absolute Truth, though externally appears ab-

sorbed in His Holy Fire rituals, internally, in association with the

Fire God, He is engaged in continuous penance. Even the nature’s

fury does not cause any hurdles in accomplishing His Divine tasks.

Whatever be the nature’s state, i.e., a hot summer, a chill winter,

incessant rains or whether it be a forest, a hillock or a cave, as a

witness of Kali Yuga, Gurudeva would roam all around. Thereby,

He demonstrates the very purpose of His incarnation by perform-

ing rituals with the Holy Fire. He is none other than our Gurudeva,

the Universal Protector and the Supreme Godhead.

One day Gurudeva went to the forest near Golagamudi and

after procuring the required firewood was returning back with His

sishyas. On the way He noticed some people dancing in a spell of

intoxication after consuming toddy. On seeing the situation, one

of the sishyas by name Sri Gutta Venkataiah (a native of

Rajapadmapuram village) felt a strong desire to consume toddy.

Since he was in the service of Gurudeva, he was curious to know

the merits and demerits of consuming the intoxicant toddy. And,

he carried his desire to know the response of Gurudeva through Sri

Venkaiah Swamy Book Inner_450-571_Feb2012.pmd 2/11/2012, 8:36 PM489

Adepa Naidu. Swamy said, ‘ayya, what is there in toddy. It is in the

words we talk’.

People usually consume toddy on that assumption that it is

an intoxicant. With this strong delusion in mind, people, after con-

suming toddy, experience the effect of intoxication and talk all

rubbish. Such people lose control over their senses and the result-

ant outcome will influence the mind. Under the influence of ‘Ra-

jas’ (activity, passion, the process of change) one of three charac-

teristics of the mind, a person is self-compelled to talk useless

things. But, who has control over the eight arrogant qualities (asta

madambulu) and the six evils (arishad vargalu), toddy or any other

intoxicant cannot influence him. So as to expose the inner mean-

ing of above nectarine words, Gurudeva spoke thus. After reach-

ing the ashram in the evening, Gurudeva, the Adoring Form, called

Adepa Naidu and told, ‘ayya, give half a rupee to Sri Venkatappa

Naidu for consuming toddy’. Sri Adepa Naidu approached Sri

Venkataiah to offer the amount. By the awakening he got in the

presence of Gurudeva, Sri Venkataiah understood his fault, begged

for excuses and humbly rejected the money offered to him. This is

the marvel of being at Gurupada Sannidhi (at the service of Guru’s

Feet). The Supreme Masters enlighten their disciples and ensure

that they are bestowed with the virtue of treading the path of righ-

teousness, not only in this world but in the other world too.

One day, Sri Adepa Naidu doubtfully asked Gurudeva, ‘Swamy,

is it a sin to eat non-vegetarian food’. Sri Swamy said, ‘ayya, the

habit is brought into practice by elders’.

Those people who are habitual non-vegetarians from child-

hood, they are unable to leave that habit. To make it a point to

those who are absorbed in His service and not finding any fault in

them, Gurudeva responded as such to clear their doubts and

thereby provided a chance to change their stand.

In those days, in the vacant place of Golagamudi there were

plantations of chillies all around and a maize farm in the middle of

it. Now, in that very place a new Ashram was constructed. Some

children of the village have plucked out the plants of maize along

with the seed. Noticing this, Sri Eswaraiah, son of Sri Narasaiah,

owner of the ashram, beat-up the children mercilessly with the

stems of maize . Seeing this, Gurudeva, the Fountain of Mercy,

kept silent all the while. After Eswaraiah left the place, Gurudeva

instructed Sri Adepa Naidu, ‘ayya, pay half-a-rupee to each of the

child who is beaten’. As a reward for bearing the beating, the chil-

dren were offered the money. With the money, they forgot the

pain, jumped and ran away happily. By keeping silent, Gurudeva

wanted the children to realize their fault and to bear the punish-

ment for what they had done intentionally. Only after they under-

went the punishment, in a bid to relieve their pain, Gurudeva of-

fered half-a-rupee to each of them and made them go back home

happily.

When Gurudeva, the Divine Felicity, was staying at

Golagamudi, devotees from Nagula Vellatur village came to

Golagamudi for having darshan of His Holy Feet. One devotee

among them asked Sri Adepa Naidu to give a rupee without the

knowledge of Gurudeva. Sri Adepa Naidu was busy writing the

chits for Gurudeva. The person who asked money was eagerly

waiting behind Adepa Naidu, who was engaged in Gurudeva’s ser-

vice. At that moment, the All-Knowing Gurudeva told Adepa Naidu,

‘ayya, pay a rupee to the person standing behind you and send him

away’. Sri Adepa Naidu felt amazed at the omniscience power of

Gurudeva and prostrated to Him in his heart of hearts.

In witness thereof, on 23.02.1981, Gurudeva, while narrating

the subject matter for the Gitamruta book at Golagamudi, asked to

compose the words, ‘Venkaiah exists eternally like the Sun God’. By

saying so, Gurudeva intended to enlighten His Omnipresence to

the sishyas present there.

It was during the period when Gurudeva, Our Lord, was stay-

ing at Rajupalem. Sri Adepa Naidu, while serving Gurudeva, prayed,

‘Swamy ! Tell me something about the ‘path of liberation’’.

Gurudeva, the Supreme Being, said, ‘we are either going to take

birth or going to die’.

Here, I feel it appropriate to quote some divine sayings of

Gurudeva.

On 15.01.1981 Gurudeva, while dictating matter for the

Gitamruta book at Golagamudi, made to compose the words, ‘who

is God. It is Venkaiah’’. By saying so, Gurudeva demonstrated His

Godly existence.

Sri Adepa Naidu recollected and told his everlasting nectar-

ine memories to me, i.e., Padarenuvu, on Monday, the 30th June,

1981 at his native place, Nagula Vellatur.

SRI RAYI GOPALAIAH

Sri Rayi Gopalaiah’s birth place was Pattapurayi village,

Siddavatam Tq. of Kadapa District. He was the sixth child of Sri

Yella Reddy and Smt. Yanadamma, whose livelihood was agricul-

ture. Since childhood, he was habitual in helping his father in day-

to-day agricultural activities. He would gather villagers and in-

volve himself in performing Bhajans (singing of divine glories on

God). Until he attained the age of 22 years, Gopalaiah was anx-

iously waiting for a right opportunity to find and serve a perfect

master (sadguru). To accomplish his objective, he wandered sev-

eral places. He came to know about the divine marvels of Bhagavan

Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy and started enquiring about Swamy. On

coming to know about Gurudeva’s presence at Rajupalem, Sri

Gopalaiah went there, prostrated at His Sacred Form, and earnestly

asked to provide an opportunity to serve His Pious Feet. The Com-

passionate Swamy said, ‘ayya, you cannot stay here now. Straight

away go home. After four months, go to the Varadaraja Swamy

temple at Kanchi. After having darshan, come to me’. As per the

orders of Gurudeva, Sri Gopalaiah spent four months at home. Later

he went to Varadaraja Swamy temple at Kanchi and had darshan.

From there he came to Golagamudi, the Shelter of Solace, and sought

refuge at the Sacred Feet of Gurudeva. Then onwards, with the

blessings of Swamy he surrendered himself to the service of Swamy.

In those days, Gurudeva frequently performed rituals of Holy Fire

at Golagamudi for nearly eight years. Day and night Gopalaiah

used to procure required firewood for performing the divine rituals

by Gurudeva. In the service of Gurudeva, he received admiration

from one and all for doing selfless hard work equivalent to the

work performed by two persons. Pleased by the hard work ren-

dered joyfully by disciple Sri Gopalaiah, congratulating him,

Gurudeva said, ‘the ashram is flooded with a golden harvest’. Irre-

spective of time, Sri Gopalaiah served Swamy and always stayed

alert to execute whatever order is likely to forthcome from Him.

He used to massage Gurudeva’s body with oil and serve Him with

food and water. He was always alert even while serving Gurudeva,

when on a tour. In those days, Sri Veluru Rama Naidu, Sompalli

Rama Naidu, Venkataiah, Dakshinadi Ramanaiah and Nooteti Adepa

Naidu were with him.

Sri Gopalaiah was such a devout person that he devoted his

entire life in the service of Gurudeva, the Almighty Power. At that

time, Sri Sai Yella Reddy, father of Sri Gopalaiah, approached

Gurudeva and appealed to send his son. Gurudeva said, ‘ayya,

he’s doing the work of God only. If he stays here, it will fetch for-

tune for you too’. On hearing Gurudeva’s binding words, Yella Reddy

bequeathed his son for utilizing him to Gurudeva’s service. Pleased

to see his son blessed with the good fortune of serving the God in

Human Form, he left home. Then onwards, Sri Gopalaiah had the

privilege of serving Gurudeva, the Ocean of Mercy, for nearly twenty

years. He constructed a temple for Gurudeva at Koti Teertham, the

sacred place where Gurudeva undertook a long penance in the

past. Serving the devotees who visit the temple and offering them

the basic amenities, Sri Gopalaiah is still sharing the nectarine

wisdom with devotees. Salutations to the blessed and virtuous

person.

SRI MALLIKA VENKAIAH

Having heard about Sri Venkaiah

Swamy’s divine glory, Sri Mallika

Venkaiah went for darshan of

Swamy. On seeing him, Swamy

said, ‘ayya, we have been together

for the past several births. When I

was working as Manager at

Rameswaram, you were the upper

division clerk at that time. All your

sins have been settled. Now, it’s

time to be with me’. Sri Mallika

Venkaiah replied, ‘Swamy! If I come

to you, I have to go for Biksha (so-

licit alms) holding a bowl, which I

cannot do. So, I won’t come’.

Swamy replied, ‘There’s no need for

you to do that. Be a controller to

the group of people engaged for

procuring fire-wood’.

By the great good fortune earned in his past births, Sri Mallika

Venkaiah, was fostered with love and devotion by Gurudeva, the

Nectar of Salvation. Then onwards he was always immersed in

the responsibility entrusted upon him by Gurudeva. He ate what-

ever food was served to him at the ashram; but not at the place

where everyone would usually sit to dine. Though he kept away

from soliciting alms (Biksha), he scrupulously followed the prin-

ciples of Biksha, viz., not to eat at the place where the food was

served, not to sleep at the place where food was taken and not to

sleep at the place where Biksha was offered.

He served Gurudeva till he breathed his last. Even on the last

day of his life, he went to the forest and procured fire-wood for

Gurudeva’s fire rituals.

SRI SOMPALLY RAMA NAIDU

ALIAS JATHAKALA RAMA NAIDU

With the blessings of Swamy, Sri Sompally Rama Naidu became a

renowned astrologer. Such was his perfectness in astrology that

he became familiar to be recognized and fondly called by name

‘Jaathakala Rama Naidu’.

If some jewelry is lost or stolen, people would approach

Jaathakala Rama Naidu, whereupon he would accurately predict

by means of his own astrological calculations and pin-pointedly

disclose the location where the lost or stolen jewelry can be found.

If some cattle are lost, similarly would he give a hint to the cattle-

owner to go to so and so place, at so and so time and unbelievably

his words always proved right. Apart, he used to show remedial

measures to those who approach him to get rid of the worldly mis-

eries.

Sri Sompally Rama Naidu has the peculiar habit of always keep-

ing a small radio with him at all times and was very keen on hear-

ing the news bulletins. He used to be very simply dressed, with a

half-sleeve shirt, a small cloth across his waist and always sported

a wrist watch. He was accustomed in taking little quantity of food,

that too during the afternoon and only a cup of coffee in the morn-

ing and at night.

One day, Sri Sompally Rama Naidu, who was normal till then,

all of a sudden started shouting ‘Omkara’ (the omkara is the sound

manifestation of the highest consciousness or highest light called

Brahman) and breathed his last. Knowing the news about his death,

Gurudeva ordered his disciples to bury his body beside the Samadhi

of Sri Polireddy at Golagamudi.

Sri Komaragiri Ramanaiah was to-

Nearly for 12-long years he spared

(Dhuni) utility. His selfless service

received laurels from everyone,

who also called him as ‘Bandi

Ramanaiah’. To be in the associa-

tion of Swamy, he stayed at

Golagamudi and most of the time

he used to spend at the ant hill of

Sri Subrahmanyeswara Swamy

temple. Apart, in praise of Swamy he used to engage himself in

singing whatever songs he wished to. And, he used to explain

people about the experiences he had with Swamy.

Whatever money he was offered by pilgrims, without keep

any amount with him, he donated them to the poor and needy. He

led a very simple life by wearing a small cloth round his waist and

leaving the rest of his body as it is. Even during the coldest winter

months of December and January, he used to enjoy a very sound

sleep on the cement floor at the ant hill of Sri Subrahmanyeswara

Swamy temple. Such was his steadfast faith and confidence re-

posed in Gurudeva, the Refuge and Protector, that, He Himself would

look after his well-being.

Sri Komaragiri Ramanaiah was never noticed in an angry mood

nor had fostered any enmity even with those who abused and

pounced to thrash him. He was never seen criticizing any one. A

week before he left his mortal coil, perhaps to fulfill the debt of

relationship he went to his younger brother’s house at Anikepalli

Sangam. Having purified himself in the divine shade of Gurudeva,

Sri Komaragiri Ramanaiah left the world in a peaceful state of mind.

RENDERING SELFLESS SERVICE

TO GURUDEVA BY DISCIPLES

It was a common practice that every night Gurudeva’s body was

massaged by the disciples by applying gingelly oil. Sitting before

the Holy Fire, Gurudeva would say, ‘ayya, rub my body’. Immedi-

ately sishyas would pick-up a gunny bag, fold it, and rub Gurudeva’s

back by putting required pressure. Feeling elated, Gurudeva would

say, ‘abba ! abba!’. With oil daubed body, Gurudeva, the Form of

Godhead, would sit before the Holy Fire performing divine rituals

all through the night. In the process, He would say the names of

God, viz., ‘Tiruvalluru Veeraraghava Swamy, Tirupasunu Ammavaru,

Kanchi Varadarajulu, Penchala Narasimha Swamy, Ranga Nayakula

Swamy’. For the fortunate ones watching Him, it seemed as if

Gurudeva was exchanging some words with a group of gods.

Gurudeva, the God-Incarnate in Human Form, used to fre-

quently remind, ‘ayya, hot water’. In case, milk or millet powder

mix (ragi jawa) is offered to Him, Swamy at first would wash His

hands, goggle water in mouth and afterwards takes the liquid served

in a saucer made with palmyra leaves (tati reku). Before consum-

ing it, Swamy offers a bit to the Holy Fire, spills a bit on the earth

and consumes the rest. The Holy palmyra leave saucers utilized

by Gurudeva are securely kept at ‘Gurunilayam’, Mulapet, Nellore.

When Gurudeva’s knee joints became stiff during the year

1967, He stopped taking solid food, such as rice and millet dough.

For eleven years i.e., upto 1978, Gurudeva took only millet malt as

His food. Disciples and servants used to take Gurudeva in a dooly

(doli). The dooly is also securely placed at ‘Gurunilayam’, Mulapet,

Nellore.

During 1978, while noticing some deterioration in Gurudeva’s

health condition, the Heavenly Father was brought in a van for

treatment to ‘Gurunilayam’, Mulapet, Nellore. At that time he was

in an unconscious state and Smt. Lakshmamma, wife of

Padarenuvu, put milk, drop-by-drop with a spoon into the mouth of

Gurudeva and He swallowed it. By doing so, Gurudeva gave a hint

to Padarenuvu that henceforth He will be taking milk as food. For

four years, i.e., upto 1982, Gurudeva took Aroroot biscuits and

Horlicks mixed with milk as the only food. Incredible! Gurudeva,

who reigns the five vital elements (panchabhutalu), never took water

for as long as fifteen years, i.e., from 1967 to 1982!!

Whenever Gurudeva felt like passing stool, he utters with dis-

ciples, ‘I have to go to the proximity of water’. Sishyas would im-

mediately carry Him to a far-off isolated place and lay Him down

there. After attending the call, disciples will make Him sit at an-

other place and purify Him with a hot water bath. At times, the

water meant for Gurudeva’s bath will be so hot that it is impos-

sible to initiate the bath by holding a mug. In such circumstances,

disciples would dip a bundle of neem (vepa) tree twigs in the boil-

ing water and spill water on Gurudeva’s back. And, feeling de-

lighted, He would say, ‘abba! Abba’. On as many occasions as He

goes for stool, He has to be purified by getting Him bathed with

very hot water. This way, sishyas stay ever-alert to attend any task

or service at any given time to Gurudeva, the Absolute Form. After

taking bath, chewing a bit of tobacco leaf, Gurudeva enjoys a state

of bliss. To the onlookers, it seems as if He is having rest. There is

no prescribed time as to when He would sleep and when He would

wake-up. At any time, He would wake up and sit. When he wakes-

up at dawn, He sits on the bed and without blinking His eye lids,

He keeps looking attentively and constantly at the Sun God. To

ensure that Gurudeva is comfortably seated, disciples arrange a

mat woven with date leaves and lay a gunny bag over it. And, to

rest His head, sishyas arrange either a pillow or a log of palm tree.

Irrespective of time, Gurudeva, the Universal Creator, who-

ever approaches seeking His Shelter, unfolds the secrets of the

creation, predicts their future and as well prescribes suitable re-

medial measures to get rid of the evils. Disciples would scribble

the sacred sayings of Gurudeva on chits of paper. Then, Gurudeva,

the God-Incarnate, blesses the chits with His Divine Glance, fondly

press them with His Hands and offers them to the concerned per-

sons. Since the words have emerged from the Creator (Srishti Karta)

Himself and the same are scribbled on paper chits (cheetilu), they

became eternally familiar as ‘Srishti Cheetilu’. Lakhs and lakhs of

such predictions have been offered to lakhs and lakhs of devo-

tees. Some of them are preserved by Padarenuvu, the revered

disciple of Gurudeva, at ‘Gurunilayam’.

Gurudeva - the Creator, Preserver and Destroyer - to ensure

that His Divine Presence felt in the world, used to offer the blessed

srishti cheetilu and the impressions of His hand and fingers (mudra

of hasthamu). The essence of this particular action (karya) per-

formed by Him is exposed to the readers to the best of my

(Padarenuvu) knowledge; the skill of which is inculcated by none

other than Gurudeva, the Master Perfect.

In those days Lord Krishna delivered a discourse (Bhagavad

Gita) at the war zone at Kurukshetra to motivate Arjuna about spiri-

tual wisdom and the features of a self-realized person. The very

Lord Himself took birth in a human form on the earth as Venkaiah

Swamy. During the year 1981, on January 12, January 15 and Feb-

ruary, 23, Gurudeva delivered a similar discourse on Gita at

Golagamudi Ashram, the Ultimate Abode. The teachings are re-

produced in a book form, consisting of three parts and titled as

‘Guru Gitamritam’.

One day, Gurudeva was sleeping on a palm leaf mat and rested

His head on a toddy log (as a pillow) at Golagamudi Ashram. He

woke up early in the morning. Disciples arranged a separate bed

for Swamy and made Him to sit over it. When the mat laid on the

ground was tossed to shed the dust and the toddy log was moved

aside, the termite-ridden log was totally reduced to a rubble. And,

from the rubble emerged heaps and heaps of dreaded red scorpi-

ons. When the matter was informed to Swamy, He said, ‘ayya, all

through the night there were little little biting sounds. Sweep them

and throw them away’. And, disciples followed Gurudeva’s orders.

Guru Bhagavan’s Saying: - ‘ayya, all through the night there

were little little biting sounds. Sweep them and throw them away’.

In the Golagamudi area the scorpions are deadly poisonous. They

look short and shine in a red colour. It will be extremely dangerous

if such a scorpion stings. But, it is a child’s play for the Universal

Creator, Gurudeva, to get stung by them all through the night. For

Him, it is as if a little child pinching a mother’s stomach like a

playful act with alluring childish shouts. Why not ! Such an experi-

ence is quite common for the Commander of the Five Vital Ele-

ments, who incarnated in a human form. Hence, He felt to have

undergone such an experience. Since such Godly persons incar-

nate to accomplish a particular purpose, they are devoid of body

consciousness. Which means, their body and soul are two differ-

ent identities? As such, their physical experiences are just meant

for name sake only.

In justifying the above theory, I would detail what Deha Dyasa

(body consciousness) – Aatmanubhavam (self experience) is:

Avatara Murthulu – Ripened tamarind (chinta pandu)

Manavulu – Unripe (raw) tamarind fruit (chinta kaya)

When an unripe tamarind fruit becomes ripe, there will be no

attachment with the seed inside. If we shake the ripened tama-

rind fruit, we hear the sound of the moving seed inside. There is

no attachment between the seed inside and the ripened fruit sur-

rounding it. It is quite similarly, great saints (mahatmas) will not

have any attachment between individual soul (atma) and individual

body (deha). Their individual soul is linked with the Supreme Soul,

while their body is merely meant for external appearance. Hence,

they remain untouched by worldly desires and joys. If an unripe

tamarind fruit is ripped by teeth, one can find the inside seed at-

tached with the layer of fruit surrounding it. Here, they are at-

tached with each other and not detached. This means, the indi-

vidual soul is attached to the conscious physical body. Hence, what-

ever pleasure or pain it experiences, the same is transmitted to

the body, since it is attached with the physical body.

This is the cause for every pleasure and pain an individual

experiences in the world.

THE GROUP OF GODS (DEVAGANAMU)

BEFORE THE GODHEAD

Gurudeva is equivalent to the Divine Trio, viz., Brahma, Vishnu

and Maheswara. Such a Supreme person has incarnated on the

earth in the human form as Venkaiah Swamy. Whenever Gurudeva

performs the Holy Fire Rituals, it is but common for all heavenly

gods (Deva Ganamu) to not only witness the Divine Rituals but

also queue-up at the Holy place to receive the Supreme Blessings

of Godhead. Gurudeva was involved in performing such divine

acts not only for universal welfare but also to ensure that His dis-

ciples learn about His Omnipotent Incarnation.

Once, Gurudeva, along with His group of sishyas was resting

under a neem tree on the outskirts of Chittepalli village (which

was situated at a distance of nine kms. on the Podalakuru-Somasila

road). One day at midnight, Swamy started shouting, ‘ayya, when

everyone is standing here, what you are doing? Spread the mats

on the ground’. Sri Sompalli Rama Naidu who was sleeping beside

Swamy, woke-up by the shouts and asked, ‘what’s the matter

Swamy’. Swamy said, ‘nothing is there. Go and sleep’. With this

incident we can ascertain the fact that the All-Pervading God Su-

preme, Gurudeva, often was involved in conversation with the group

of Heavenly Gods in the isolated hours and at isolated places.

This way, Swamy unfolds His Divine leelas very frequently to

His devotee-servants. Once, while Swamy was staying at

Golagamudi, the Abode of Ever-New Joy, at 3.00 PM, He told His

sishyas, ‘ayya, Anjaneya Swamy, why do you keep standing? Please

sit’. So saying, He shouted at sishyas, ‘at least you tell Him to be

seated’. From the above perspective, we can consider that, to seek

the blessings of Gurudeva, the Heavenly Father, the Heavenly Gods

queue-up for rendering service at His Supreme Divine Feet. Such

events of Divine Sport are often spoken by Gurudeva in conversa-

tion with the disciples.

In the book titled, ‘Gurudeva Gitamrita’, Gurudeva, enlight-

ened the very purpose of ‘His incarnation in Human Form’ to the

world with the words, ‘Venkaiah is Lord Rama’ (Ramulavaru

Venkaiah). It may be the reason perhaps that Anjeneya Swamy

felt totally absorbed in the delight of seeing the Divine Form of His

Supreme Owner (Lord Sri Rama, viz., Gurudeva) for whom He eter-

nally thirsts for. What a wonder! Yuga’s may change, but the bond

between the master and the disciple can never change? Who can

explain this unique bond in words? Though the marvellous leelas

are invisible to the naked eyes of disciples, we whole-heartedly

prostrate at Swamy’s Sacred Feet for sharing with us such pious

events.

Such incredible instances are numerous. As a minute effort,

only a streak of moon-light could I bring to light. Padarenuvu dedi-

cates all such divine miracles to Swamy by offering Pranams at His

Pious Feet.

SRI VELURU NARSAPPA NAIDU

During the year 1962, Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy

went to Talupuru village along with His group of sishyas.

Villagers, Sri Mastan Naidu and Sri Sanjeeva Naidu, sons of

Sri Narasappa Naidu have pledged gold ornaments and took gold

loan from a bank to meet their agricultural needs. After some

days, they recollected that some gold bangles are yet in their pos-

session and in a bid to trace them, they searched the entire house.

After repeated search, they felt dejected and concluded that thieves

might have stolen the gold bangles. At that time they came to

know that the Omniscient Gurudeva, was camping in nearby vil-

lages.

They went to Swamy, prostrated at His Lotus Feet and be-

seeched Him with uncontrollable grief, ‘Swamy, our gold ornaments

are missing. Are they stolen by thieves? We are unable to know as

to how they were lost. Can we secure the gold ornaments lost by

us’? The All-Knowing Swamy, assuredly said, ‘ayya, the ornaments

are within the ornaments. They can be secured back with money’.

Except for the wise, can the words of Swamy, expressing in-depth

meaning are understood by a common man? No.

Unable to understand the in-depth meaning of Gurudeva’s

words, people used to comment and interpret the words in various

ways. While the grief-stuck people who lost the gold ornaments

are pleading so much, why is Swamy saying so? Does it mean -

the thieves who stole the gold ornaments are going to be caught

or fearing that their names may be revealed would they on their

own handover the ornaments to the owner and so on and so on.

Such doubts cropped-up in the people around.

After a few days, Sri Mastan Naidu and Sri Sanjeeva Naidu

gained good agriculture yield and earned sufficient money. They

repaid the required amount to the Bank in lieu of the gold orna-

ments pledged with the Bank and took back the jewelry. When

they opened the pouch containing the pledged gold ornaments,

they were astonished and spell-bound with delight to see that the

bangles which they presumed to be lost are intact with other orna-

ments. Then they recollected the nectarine words of Gurudeva,

‘ayya, the ornaments are within the ornaments. They can be se-

cured back with money’. What a wonder! What Gurudeva told at

that time, it is what that has unfolded today. Since then, they were

always absorbed in recitation of Gurudeva’s Sacred Name.

SRIVARI PADARENUVU IN THE SERVICE

OF SWAMY– CONSTRUCTION OF ASHRAM

(RECORD OF CONTENTS NARRATED BY PADARENUVU FROM HIS DIARY)

The construction of ashram began with Gurudeva’s blessings

on Saturday, 19.01.1980 by undertaking repairs to the well on Ratha

Saptami day (is observed on the seventh day of the bright fortnight

in the Hindu month Magh (January – February). Lord Surya riding a

chariot driven by seven horses is worshipped on this day).

The existing well in the new ashram was originally a mud

construction. The upper portion of the well caved in and fell into

the well. With the blessings of Gurudeva, the Cosmic Form, the

renovation of the ‘well’ began on the auspicious Ratha Saptami

day. Sri Adinarayana Reddy took the responsibility of undertaking

the work and gave one hundred rupees to Padarenuvu to commence

the work. Of which, an amount of eighty rupees and fifteen naya

paise was incurred as expenditure for performing worship rituals

and for feeding of the poor. In the morning on that day, the bus in

which Sri Adinarayana Reddy was coming from Penavarty to Nellore

to look after the renovation works overturned on the river bed at

the village. Fortunately, instead of falling down, it held the ground

on one wheel. When a devotee of the Almighty Power, Gurudeva,

began His journey in a bus to accomplish His work, can any harm

dare to befall on him?

The mud in the well was removed upto a depth of six mattulu,

i.e., 36 feet (1 mattu = 6 feet). The construction began on

19.01.1980 with the laying of stone bed at the bottom and it was

completed on 12.04.1980. The amount incurred as expenditure

for the purpose was Rs. 7,256.68 ps. which was met by Sri

Adinarayana Reddy, the donor.

Padarenuvu undertook the responsibility of drafting a plan by

an engineer for construction of the ashram. On 05.08.1979, Sri

Adinarayana Reddy and Padarenuvu after offering prostrations at

Gurudeva’s Pious Feet, placed the plan papers relating to the

ashram at His Feet. At that time Gurudeva was in the company of

Mataji Tulasamma and other disciples were sitting at the temple

of Anjaneya Swamy. With great delight Swamy examined the plan

and expressed His willingness through a ‘srishti cheeti’.

The Chit of Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy

The proposed plan for construction of the temple is all right

by all means. It will be fine to start the work at any time. If the

work commences now, it will be accomplished. Blessings worth

forty crores of padigelu.

FOUNDATION LAYING CEREMONY

07.05.1980, Wednesday : Gurudeva laid the foundation for

commencement of ashram construction work with His own hands.

For the first time, Swamy sat on the new blanket arranged by

Padarenuvu on that day. It was the first instance, Gurudeva was

felicitated with garlands and flowers by Sri Vallappa Reddy

Adinarayana Reddy. Later, at the instance of His disciples, Swamy

came to the place of the pit where the foundation stone was to be

laid. Revered devotees Talupuru Narayana Das, Guruvaiah and other

disciples were with Swamy, the Universal Soul. With the blessings

of Gurudeva, Padarenuvu (Makani Venkatrao) got down into the

foundation laying pit. He arranged the bricks given by Gurudeva’s

Sacred Hands in an order inside the pit. The packet containing the

nine precious stones (nava ratnamulu) was not found. Padarenuvu

came out of the pit, gathered nava ratnamulu and nava dhanyamulu

(the nine sorts of grains) and put them in a new earthen pot. He

took the pot to the devotees, who dropped gifts and poured milk to

the full.

Padarenuvu, again got down into the pit. He was waiting to

receive the sacred pot from the Sacred Hands of Gurudeva. But,

instead of giving the pot to Padarenuvu, Swamy, who was sitting a

feet away from the pit, kept the pot in His Sacred Palm and threw it

into the three-feet deep pit. Wonder of wonders, after striking the

edge of a brick, the pot fell in a standing position; amazingly in the

middle of the pit. It’s marvellous and miraculous. Though the

heavy pot hit the brick, the brick broke instead, and fell apart. Sur-

prisingly, the heavy pot stood in the middle of the pit, unscratched.

In fact, the filled-in pot should have been broken into pieces by

such a great impact. But such a marvel did occur. Here, it is

Venkaiah Swamy, the Form of Maha Vishnu. When Swamy Himself

has come from the Heavens and initiated the auspicious occasion

to mark the beginning of construction of His Own Temple, such

foundation laying ceremony of Golgamudi Ashram. Sri Reddy is the

main arch behind the construction of ashram.

miracles do occur. By flinging the pot into the pit, He infused ex-

traordinary Divine Powers to the pot and to the place, as a ‘protec-

tive shield’ for the next generations.

The seed sown by Gurudeva, the Universal Creator, has

sprouted. It is growing day by day. This itself is the beginning for

construction of the ashram.

Chit pertaining to Gurudeva’s knee pain

On 26.06.1980, Thursday: As ordered by Gurudeva,

Padarenuvu was writing chits for the devotees at the Golagamudi

ashram. It’s around mid-noon. At that time, Gurudeva was rest-

ing. He got up and sat, and told Padarenuvu, ‘ayya, write a chit

with regard to the pain in my knee joints’. The contents of the chit

are detailed hereunder.

The chit blessed by God’s vision (devuni choopu cheeti) relat-

ing to Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy - Bhagavan’s petition

to God :

‘Oh God! Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy is praying that

His legs become perfect. Bless Him, for He is the Heavenly Father,

who with His Gracious Looks is ruling the entire universe and whose

legs, we pray, should become normal. Oh Parameswara, Our Di-

vinely Father, You are equivalent to all Godly Forms. Oh Heavenly

Gods! Accept our whole-hearted prostrations, for, we seek to sac-

rifice our whole life at Your Sacred Feet. Shower mercy on

Padarenuvu who wrote the chit.

Such was the blessed opportunity bestowed upon Padarenuvu

by Gurudeva, the Universal Creator. Prostrations and total surren-

der to such a Godly Father, till such life keeps rolling in the cycle of

birth-rebirth.

The chit blessed by God’s vision (devuni choopu cheeti) relat-

ing to Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy :

On 27.08.1980, Thursday: On the application forwarded to the

Government for procuring a site for ashram, on this day Sri

Penchalaiah, Surveyor and Sri Venkata Rao, Revenue Inspector, had

a survey of the land and took its measurements.

Gurudeva would often visit the land proposed for construc-

tion of ashram and ensured that the pending works are blessed

with success through His ‘srishti cheeti’ and thereby empower the

place with some divine power. The content matter of ‘srishti chits’

are reproduced hereunder.

Friday evening, at the construction place of Ashram :-

The chit blessed by God’s vision (devuni choopu cheeti) relat-

ing to Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy :

Commencing today, the construction of ashram will be com-

pleted in 145 days. The place for construction of the temple is

good. Everything will go smoothly.

In the place where the ashram is constructed:

The chit blessed by God’s vision (devuni choopu cheeti) re-

lating to Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy :

Four parts are made in favour of Venkatramaiah c/o Sri Obula

Naidu. One part is situated at Kaalepalem. One part is in favour

of Dhobis 10 baaralu (about 15 Mtrs.).

25.10.1980 (Saturday): Sri Narayana Das performed Pooja at 6.00

PM in the ashram which was under construction and a pumpkin

was got tied. Five married women applied turmeric powder and

vermillion on a white pumpkin and it was hanged to the Neem tree

located opposite to the ashram. On that day, Bhagavan touched

the white pumpkin three times and said, ‘alright”. After perform-

ing Pooja, everyone took the divine offerings (prasadam).

29.12.1980 (Monday) : For the purpose of ashram construction,

200 bags of cement was purchased at a cost of Rs. 5,600/-. It is

brought in a lorry to the ashram site by Padarenuvu. Annoyed by

the bumpy road, all through, driver Rangan was murmering some-

thing in Tamil. The cement load reached the ashram in the evening.

On noticing the presence of Gurudeva there, driver Rangan got

down and went for washing his hands and legs. He offered

circumambulations to Gurudeva, prostrated to Him and sat before

Him with utmost reverence. After the cement bags were unloaded,

as was the practice I (Padarenuvu) offered Mamool (token amount

as a gift of good gesture ) to the driver. He refused to take the

amount saying that he would not touch the money of Swamy and

that he would render service to the Divinely Father and thereupon

gave his address. A Swamy’s photo and some Holy Ash (vibhooti)

was given to him.

On seeing the Divine Form of Gurudeva, an unexpected and a

unique change was noticed in the driver.

02.01.1981 : A propagator of Sai’s philosophical way of thinking

and a greatly revered devotee, Sri Bharadwaja Master had darshan

of Gurudeva. He asked me to take the finger impressions of Hand

and Feet of Gurudeva, the Form of Love. Sri Adinarayana Reddy

offered Rs. 100/- to the Master through his mother’s hand.

05.01.1981 : An order was placed with Sri Gamallapalem

Raghavayya of Gudur for a big photo of Gurudeva.

Along with Master Bharadwaja, myself, devotees and disciples

sat before Gurudeva at the Golagamudi ashram, the Abode of Uni-

versal Power. With a proposal to look after the future welfare ac-

tivities of the ashram, we were discussing ways and means for

formation of an association. After discussions, we all preferred to

name the association, as, ‘Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy

Humanitarian Mission’. Gurudeva, the All-Loving Form, who was

instrumental to inspire our thoughts to choose that name, gave

His consent. And, it became a permanent name.

07.01.1981: After meeting, Sri Narayana Swamy, the Registrar,

required forms for registering the temple were procured from him.

Accordingly, Sri Kondal Rao, P.W.D, Executive Engineer, had pre-

pared relevant bye-laws.

11.01.1981: Sri Tyagarajan, Municipal Supervisor, took the mea-

surements of ashram to prepare the estimates. On the same day,

the coconuts offered to me by Master Bharadwaja were put into

the Holy Fire Ritual of Swamy. Till that time, Swamy, who kept

silent, opened His eyes and blessed the occasion.

Padarenuvu asked Mataji Tulasavva to give papers endorsed

with the impressions of Swamy’s Hand. Guruvaiah who heard the

conversation, vent his anger on Padurenuvu saying that he was

responsible for exposing the secret to public. Padarenuvu ap-

proached Swamy who was reclining there and told Sri Guruvaiah,

‘it’s God who is sleeping here. If the fact is made public, it will be

virtuous, if not, it’s a sin’. So saying, he left the place. After a

while, Gurudeva asked to shift Him to the place where the ridge

gourd (beerakaya padu) plant is located. Resting there, He asked

to write a chit.

In that chit, Gurudeva, the Love Grace, made it a point to write,

‘who is God. It is Venkaiah’. The more the fact was made public,

the more would be the virtue. If not, it was equally sinful’.

06.01.1981 : Sri Obul Reddy of Tallapalli village, Pulivendala Tq.,

Kadapa Dist., presented five lyrical hymns (Pancha Ratna slokas)

composed in the name of Bhagavan.

13.02.1981 – Friday : At 10.30 in the night, revered Bhardwaja

Master endorsed his signature on the registration papers as a Presi-

dent of Bhagavan Sri Venkaiah Swamy Humanitarian Mission, at

Sai Baba Temple, Vidyanagar, Nellore.

16.02.81 : Papers relating to the registration of ashram were filled-

in and submitted at Registration Office.

18.02.81 : Sri Satyanarayana, Tahasildar, inspected the ashram site

and had darshan of Gurudeva.

13.04.81 : The existing cash chest (hundi) was donated by Sri

Tyagaraj, Municipal Supervisor. He purchased the Hundi from Sri

Vaggu Polaiah of Butchireddy palem village.

26.04.81 (Sunday): The construction of safety wall to the well was

completed and a pulley was arranged to draw water. Sri Adinarayana

Reddy performed the required pooja rituals. On the occasion, the

wife of village head (muttaiduva = a married woman) was ceremo-

niously offered a saree and a blouse bit. Sri Narayana Dasu broke

the coconuts. Pongali (a South Indian preparation made of rice,

pulses, nuts, ghee, etc.) and Panchamrutam (a preparation of milk,

sugar, ghee, honey and curd) were offered as divine offerings

(naivedyam) to Gurudeva, the Pious and Auspicious Form.

07.05.81 (Thursday) : Myself (Padarenuvu) and Kumar while pass-

ing through the Trunk Road noticed the advancing rain clouds. We

were afraid that the 200 bags of cement stored in the ashram may

become useless if it rained heavily. Straight away we went to the

house of Sri Venkateswarlu, Income Tax Officer, took his motor

cycle and drove to Sri lakshmi Hirers, Pappula Veedhi,

Stonehousepet. We asked for the tarpaulin cloth, but the shop-

keeper demanded introduction of a known person. We approached

Sri Ratnaiah Shetty, who, for a long time was supplying provisions

to the ashram and took him to the hirer. On his recommendation,

the tarpaulin cloth was acquired. At around 1.30 in the night, my-

self and Kumar reached Golagamudi. At that time, Gurudeva was

resting before the Holy Fire at the old ashram and was absorbed in

singing hymns and performing bhajans. The tarpaulin cloth was

securely covered over the cement bags. Both of us stayed with

Gurudeva till the early hours of the day and returned back to Nellore

on the motor cycle.

17.05.1981 (Sunday) : Taking the required material for laying of

slab to the temple of Gurudeva, myself and Kumar boarded a bus

to reach Golagamudi. When the bus reached Kondayipalem Gate,

I recollected that we forgot buckets and I asked Kumar to get down

and sent him back to get the buckets. I got down from the bus. At

that time, anticipating that the railway level crossing gate would

be closed, the bus driver moved the bus. I went running to catch

the bus, but slipped. I was dragged over the concrete heaps on

the road and by that time the conductor got hold of me and the bus

too came to a halt. Had not the Heavenly Father not implanted

such a thought in the conductor’s mind; what would have been my

fate?

To accomplish the work of laying of slab in the early hours,

the earlier night itself I sought the assistance of Golagamudi and

Yanadipalem villagers, who whole-heartedly assured their coop-

eration. There were clouds and a slight drizzle in the night. We felt

concerned whether the work will be curtailed by rains and hence

kept reciting the Divine Name of Gurudeva. Sri Yella Reddy of

Yellanti village had come a day early to look after the centring

works, who, by profession was an expert in the field.

With the blessings of Gurudeva, the weather was cool and

pleasant on that day. Every one enjoyed working under the pleas-

ant atmosphere and the task was successfully accomplished. All

those who rendered voluntary service were indeed fortunate to

partake in the sacred work.

18.05.1981 (Monday) Vyasa Pournami : On that holy day, a

slab was to be laid around the open place area (verandah) adjoin-

ing the main temple.

We went to the village well before dawn and invited the vil-

lagers to offer their service. Before the Sun came up, praying

Bhagavan, we broke a coconut and began the work. That day too it

was cool and pleasant. The service rendered by the villagers of

Golagamudi should remain eternal in history. Over 80 villagers

participated in the work. Their delight in sharing the work whole-

heartedly was to be seen rather than written in words. We offered

them rice pongali and coffee in the morning and arranged for meals

in the afternoon. With the support of everyone, the work was com-

pleted by evening.

In the morning itself, Sri Adinarayana Reddy came from

Penavarty. Delightfully, he too participated in the work along with

others. Sri Yella Reddy was there throughout and was instrumen-

tal in ensuring that cement, sand and concrete are mixed in re-

quired proportions. Anticipating that the work may prolong till night,

a petromax light was brought from Anikepally. But, Mataji Tulasavva

objected for working in the night and it got postponed for next day.

Later, we went to Harijanwada in the village and they happily as-

sured to take part in next day’s work.

19.05.1981 (Tuesday): Slab was laid by uninterruptedly carrying

out the work from early morning. With the assistance of the vil-

lagers from Golagamudi and Harijanwada, the work was completed

by 1.00 in the afternoon. They ate chaddi annamu (cold rice stored

in a pot mixed with butter milk) in the morning and had meals in

the afternoon. The work was completed under the supervision of

Mason Subhan.

28.05.1981 (Wednesday): Gurudeva was doing well until lunch was

served in the afternoon. Swamy was feeling uneasy with asthma

(breathing problem). Since there was no bus service to Nellore

until evening, myself (Padarenuvu) and Kumar started on a bicycle

to Nellore. In the mid-way, we found someone going in a car. I

stopped the car, sent Kumar back, boarded the car and came to Dr.

Vivekananda Hospital. From there, hiring a taxi for Rs. 60/-, I came

to Golagamudi with the doctor. The doctor tested Gurudeva and

gave injection, medicines and tonic.

27.06.1981 (Saturday) Dasami : We ensured that the mud lying

within and outside the ashram was lifted with the help of villag-

ers, as also the cement bags were shifted from the old to new

ashram. Bhagavan came to new ashram at 4.00 PM. Gurudeva lit

the Holy Fire, broke a coconut and waved the burning camphor

(Harathi). Everyone had offered prayers. Later, Gurudeva shifted

to the old ashram. Myself and Guruvaiah carried Swamy in a doly

to the old ashram.

01.07.1981 : The Deputy Collector had recommended a price of

Rs. 500/- per acre for the site meant for Golagamudi Ashram.

07.08.1981 (Friday): My eldest daughter Chi. Vani who got mar-

ried, was brought to Golagamudi. Gurudeva blessed the couple.

17.10.1981 (Friday): The iron chest donated by Sri Tyagarajan was

altered into a Hundi at the lathe machine shop of Sri Bujjaiah. It

was transported to the ashram in a cart (with tyre wheels) arranged

by Sri Ranga Reddy of Kovvur.

23.10.1981 (Friday): In the evening, Mataji Tulasavva asked us to

perform pooja to the Hundi. After performing pooja, bengal gram

(senagalu) and puffed rice (borugulu) were placed over it. The

lock was opened to clean the box and when I put the hand inside,

a scorpion stung me. I prayed Bhagavan, who gave me a thread,

and said ‘enough’. The venom did not budge from that place. Swamy

turned towards Guruvaiah and held the upper arm with His two

hands. The venom of the scorpion sting did not move up.

11.11.1981: Glass frames were arranged to the photos of Gurudeva.

12.11.1981 (Thursday): Myself, Kumar, Tikkavarapu Sundararami

Reddy and Mason Muttayya Chari went to the house of photogra-

pher Sri Rama Swamy. We brought the photo of Gurudeva pre-

pared by the photographer, placed it in the pooja at 11.30 AM and

thereupon offered coconut and aarti.

26.11.1981 (Thursday): The work of cement plastering to the

temple walls commenced by engaging 12 labourers by Mason

Subhan. Smt. Venkamma (of Mudigedu village), the cook, was

blessed with the dream of Gurudeva, wherein He appeared in the

form of Sai Baba. In the dream He asked her to offer Ragi Sankati

(millet malt), as Maha Naivedya (a grand divine offering) and to

distribute the same amongst the devotees after the bhajan. At

10.00 PM, she prepared the divine offerings and placed them as

Maha Naivedya to Bhagavan and distributed it amongst the devo-

tees and ashram dwellers.

18.12.1981 (Friday): By placing atop a bus, I brought a log of Neem

tree from Nellore to Golagamudi. While the log was about to be

pushed down from atop the bus, Ch. Venkateswarlu, son of Sri

Nallagalla Sundaraiah was passing on a bicycle by the side of the

bus. At that very moment, the log was pushed down by the cleaner

of the bus, the log fell on the front portion of the bicycle. Fortu-

nately, by the blessings of Gurudeva, the boy was not at all hurt.

25.12.1981 (Friday): At 12 Noon, Sri Venkateswarlu, Assigned Dy.

Tahasildar came to the ashram. He took statements from me about

the management of the ashram, and from the village head about

the details of site. He asked me to come to his office with the

accounts relating to ashram management on 28.12.1981.

06.01.1982 (Wednesday): Vaikunta Ekadasi: Taking vegetables

for the workers engaged in construction work of the ashram, I hired

a cycle rickshaw from Nellore to go to Golagamudi. Exactly at

11.25 AM, when we were nearing Kasturi Devi Girls School, two

children riding on a bicycle dashed against our rickshaw and came

underneath its wheels. A bus was coming at high speed in the

opposite direction. By the mercy of Gurudeva, the cycle fell on the

other side. Our rickshaw over ran the cycle and stopped aside and

in that split of moment, the bus sped past. When Gurudeva, the

Supreme Power, was with us at all times and at all places, could

we fear of anything untoward. Otherwise, we four (two children,

myself and rickshaw puller) would have reached Vaikuntam on that

Vaikunta Ekadasi (the combination of Uttara Dwara darshanam of

Lord Vaikunta plus Ekadasi thithi has attained significance as

Vaikunta Ekadasi) day.

21.01.1982: I went to Nellore, took medicines prescribed by Dr.

Vivekananda for Mataji Tulasavva, who had been suffering with

acute pain in her hand. From there, I went to Penavarty and in-

formed the matter to Sri Adinarayana Reddy and came back to

Golagmudi.

Kumar arrived at Golagamudi in the car belonging to Sri Adinarayana

Reddy. As instantly as we stepped in, Gurudeva shouted, ‘ayya,

spread the mats and serve food’.

26.01.1982: I have met Sri Pundarikakshaiah, Auditor, and submit-

ted the accounts registers relating to the expenditure of ashram

construction work.

28.01.1982 (Thursday): Myself and Sri Venkataiah went to the

house of Sri Obula Reddy, at Tallapalem, Pulivendula Tq., Kadapa

Dist. for procuring stones for flooring. We came to know that Sri

Obula Reddy was performing worship to Goddess Raja Rajeswari

Devi in the house of Sri Ramanujula Reddy (uncle of Sri Y.S.

Rajasekhara Reddy). We had our food at Sri Obula Reddy’s house

and reached Pulivendula along with his daughter. We met Sri Obula

Reddy there and requested him to thoroughly go through

‘Gurudeva’s Charitra’. He readily agreed to it. We came to know

that the ongoing pooja at Sri Ramanujulu Reddy’s house would

continue till Saturday and we stayed there itself. After completion

of pooja at 12 in the mid night, the manuscript of Swamy’s Charitra

was kept at the place of worship.

29.01.1982 (Friday) : At 9.55 in the night, Sri Sadasiva Sharma, the

Yajna Karta (the one who offers the dravyas (various oils) to the

fire by c hanting the mantras) wrote the auspicious word ‘Omkara’

on a new note book to commence the process of writing Gurudeva’s

Charitra. He placed the book at the auspicious feet of Jagajjanani,

the Mother of the Universe.

30.01.1982 (Saturday): After offering prayers to Goddess Raja

Rajeswari Devi; to mark the conclusion of Pooja ritual with Kalasa

(the sacred vessel) Udvasana (bidding farewell), Sri Sadasiva Sharma

composed a hymn on Gurudeva in the note book. While this was

going on, a cow came to the deity’s home (Pooja Mandiramu) and

ate the divine offerings placed there. From Pulivendula, we reached

the house of Sri Obula Reddy at Tallapalem village at 6.00 in the

evening. In the pooja mandiramu at Sri Ramanujulu Reddy’s house,

the manuscript of Gurudeva’s Satcharitra was placed at the Sacred

Feet of Jagajjanani, the Universal Mother.

31.01.1982 (Sunday): In the morning itself, myself along with Sri

Obula Reddy and Sri Venkataiah came to Vempally. From there we

went to Yerraguntla and proceeding further we reached

Chilamakuru. After walking a distance of four miles, we reached

Kallamalla. There, we had lunch at the house of Sri Venugopala

Reddy, son of Sri Obula Reddy. We came to the quarry of black

stones and purchased 15 square metres of stone at Rs. 35/- per

square metre. The cost of the same stone at Yerraguntla was

Rs. 70/-. But, Sri Obula Reddy offered the rate for the reverence

he had for Gurudeva.

Son of Sri Obula Reddy and his two friends with three bicycles took

us on the bicycles from Kalamall to Chilamakuru. There we went

to Maruti Civil Brokers Office and purchased four squares metres

of black polished stone and one square metre of white polished

stone @ Rs. 260/- and Rs. 400/- per square metre respectively. A

lorry was engaged for Rs. 800/-, out of which an advance of Rs.

200/- was paid. From there we traveled by bus and reached

Prodduturu at 10.00 PM in the night and from there we went to

Nellore.

02.02.1982 (Tuesday): Sri Venugopal Reddy arrived with his friends

to Golagamudi in the morning along with the lorry loaded with four

square metres of black shining stone, one square metre of white

shining stone and 6 ½ square metres of black stone. On that day,

Sri Varakoti Sitaram who was stung by a scorpion was rushed to

the ashram. As his condition became critical he was admitted in

the Government Hospital at Nellore. By the next day he became

normal.

06.02.1982 (Saturday): Sri Gandavaram Narsa Reddy and his wife

Smt. Varamma donated Rs. 2000/- towards construction of ashram

in the name of Swamy. The amount was deposited in the Corpora-

tion Bank.

11.02.1982 (Thursday): A leela of Gurudeva : I drew Rs. 500/-

from the Corporation Bank and paid it to the welder Bujjaiah to

prepare two iron grill windows. Myself and Sri Venkataiah engaged

a rickshaw from Chinna Bazar to Moolapet and were traveling in it.

The rickshaw puller Sri Bujjam Balasubba Reddy was a native of

Proddutur. He said that all the money earned by him was staked in

the game of cotton numbers (a vice-like game) and his financial

position was so pathetic that he did not even have a shirt to wear.

In the meanwhile we reached home. Immediately I gave a photo

of Gurudeva to the rickshaw puller and asked him to take a pledge

on Gurudeva that, ‘he will never stake his money again in the cot-

ton number game’. After seeing the photo of Swamy, he saluted

with reverence to it and took an oath that he would not involve in

the cotton number game henceforth. He enquired about

Golagamudi, the Abode of Divine Refuge, and left the place.

What a wonder! Immediately after seeking Gurudeva’s photo, a

strong desire sprang in him to keep away from all bad habits. When

such a Cosmic Form of Kali Yuga is before us, why should we fear.

14.02.1982 (Sunday): Swamy’s leela (divine sport): Sri Tyagarajan,

the Municipal Supervisor, Nellore, donated a cash chest to the

ashram. He was supervising the construction in accordance with

the approved plan. He was also a blessed person of Swamy.

Once Sri Tyagarajan’s child became sick and was admitted in

a hospital. The doctors could not identify the nature of the dis-

ease. As he was agitated and dejected, I approached Swamy, the

Heavenly Father and detailed about the health problem of the child.

The Compassionate Swamy gave a piece of cotton cloth, holy ash

and a booklet containing the mode of worship. I took them to the

hospital and placed the things under the pillow of the child. By the

next day morning, the unidentified disease showed signs of great

relief. The child recovered and on the following day he got dis-

charged from the hospital.

04.03.1982 (Thursday): Sri Pundarikakshaiah, Auditor, prepared

the audit report and gave it for record.

09.03.1982 (Tuesday): I submitted the applications of blind chil-

dren of the village to the Tahasildar, seeking financial assistance

from the Government.

17.03.1982 (Wednesday) : Sri Gangulaiah of Kurnool bore the ex-

penses incurred towards the photo of Swamy.

29.03.1982 (Monday): In the Kodanda Rama Temple of Nagula

Vellatur village, the villagers mounted the chit narrated by Gurudeva

about the village and later offered Maha Naivedya. For construc-

tion of a store room in the ashram, Sri Korakuti Narayanaiah, Sri

Venkatramaiah and Sri Nuteti Appaiah, had agreed to spare large

trunks of toddy trees. Villagers donated lemons, tomatoes, pump-

kins and water melons to the ashram.

30.03.1982 (Tuesday) : Smt. Tulasavva fell down and suffered in-

jury to the waist. I came to Nellore, met Dr. G.C Narayana and

purchased the medicines prescribed by him. I took a hot water

bag for Swamy from my neighbour Smt. Anasuyamma. I went to

Golagamudi, gave an injection to Smt. Tulasavva and returned back

to Nellore in the night.

02.04.1982 (Friday): Smt Amaravatamma of Kokkupadu, Nellore,

had promised to donate an amount of Rs. 2000/- towards the marble

idol of Gurudeva, the Charming Lord. On that day, Sai Bhagavan’s

idol was installed at Bitragunta Temple. Afterwards, the sculptor

of the Sai idol from Jaipur, Rajastan, and some friends from

Bitrugunta were taken by Kumar in a taxi for darshan of Gurudeva.

The sculptor agreed to carve out a white marble idol of Gurudeva

at a cost of Rs. 4,000/-.

Santapeta. We paid them Rs. 500/- and took the photo of Sri

Narasimha Swamy. We came to the Gurunilayam at Moolapeta at

about 11.30 PM in the night and offered prayers there.

05.04.1982 (Monday) : We came to Golagmudi at 12.00 in the

midnight in the tractor of Sri Nageswara Rao and slept in the temple

of Anjaneya Swamy for the night. At 3.00 AM, Sri Guruvaiah woke

me up saying that Swamy was feeling uneasy due to breathing

problem (asthma). I gave an injection to Gurudeva. He got relief

from the problem and fell asleep.

06.04.1982 (Tuesday) : A tractor was arranged for transporting of

sand at Rs. 7/- per trip. I came to Nellore, bought some miscella-

neous articles and went to the bus stand. Since no bus was avail-

able at that time I went in a rickshaw and reached home at 1 ‘0’

clock in the night.

09.04.1982 (Friday): Taking bread and medicines, we reached

Golagamudi in the night. As Gurudeva’s health was not well, we

felt very much agitated. In the early hours, He became somewhat

normal.

10.04.1982 (Saturday): After offering worship at Anjaneya Swamy

temple, other village celebrations followed. A procession was

taken, followed by feeding of the poor.

16.04.1982 (Friday) : We went to the house of Soutamuluru

Venkamma, Teacher, residing at Bhaktavatsala Nagar. She donated

a mortar-grinder (rubburolu) to the ashram. Makani Lakshmamma

of Mulapeta donated a stone (Sannikalla Banda) on which food

grains could be crushed. With those items, we reached Golagamudi

by tractor at night.

20.04.1982 (Tuesday): We engaged the lorry of Sri Sambaiah

tree trunks into the lorry. Sriramulu Naidu, Sri Kuchi Ramaiah, Sri

Korakuti Narayana and Sri Nuteti Ramaiah came along with us in

the lorry to unload the tree trunks. On the way, the vehicle was

stopped by the forest officials at the check post of Aaduripalli. I

showed them the photo of Gurudeva which was in my pocket. The

staff saluted to Gurudeva and without uttering a word they permit-

ted the lorry to proceed. We came to the Gopi Saw Mill in

Stonehousepet, Nellore at 12.30 in the noon and unloaded the tree-

trunks from the lorry. Altogether there were 21 toddy tree trunks.

I paid Rs. 15/- to the saw mill hamalis (labourers who lift heavy

weights).

24.04.1982 (Saturday) : In the morning I sent bread rolls to

Golagamudi for Gurudeva. In the afternoon I went to the Gopi Saw

Mill and requested them to cut to size the tree trunks. For that, we

sent to the saw mill 36 bundles of straw loaded in three carts.

29.04.1982 (Thursday) : Along with Kamsali Rajaiah of Golagamudi

I went to the saw mill and gave them the required measurements.

At 3.00 PM they began to cut them. In the evening I gave Rs. 20/-

offered by Mataji Tulasamma to a devotee Sri Gavandla Pullaiah

who was afflicted with Paralysis.

The electricity department has agreed to supply power to the

ashram, which did not exist till then. I paid Rs. 65/- towards the

‘connection deposit’. By the blessings of Gurudeva, the time has

now come for supply of power to the ashram.

06.05.1982 (Thursday): I went to the electricity office in the morn-

ing and came back after discussing the issue of power supply to

the ashram.

07.05.1982 (Friday): Smt. Venkamma of Southamuluru village,

donated her gold ear rings for the construction of ashram. I put

nied by Sri Vavilala Subramanyam, Head of Sankar Mutt, Nellore,

myself, my mother and Sri Narayana Das came to Golagamudu in

the night. Later, I went to the village and invited every one to be

present during the foundation laying ceremony scheduled at 8.00

AM on Sunday.

09.05.1982 (Sunday) : Sri Subramanyam began to perform the cer-

emony at 8.00 in the morning. Gurudeva handed-over 18 Blessed

Bricks with His Divine Hands for laying the foundation to the kitchen

and hospital. We have placed 17 bricks inside and when we took

the 18th brick, Gurudeva said, ‘the account is settled’.

14.05.1982 (Friday): I enquired with the Head Clerk at the office

of RDO about the papers pertaining to the ashram.

15.05.1982 (Saturday): I proceeded to Nagula Vellatur in the

evening. The villagers have enthusiastically agreed to donate whole

green gram (pesalu) and chilly to Gurudeva and vegetables for the

forthcoming Hanuman Jayanthi scheduled on Tuesday. For the night,

I slept at Nagula Vellatur.

16.05.1982 (Sunday): The villagers donated a bag full of dry chil-

lies and lemons, apart 28 serlu (1 seru = a measure of weight equal

to two pounds) of rice to the ashram. I brought them to Nellore

and spoke to Sri Appaiah, the cook.

18.05.1982 (Tuesday): Hanuman Jayanthi was celebrated with re-

ligious pomp. About 2000 persons were fed on the day. Sri Ratnam

Reddy and his wife came from Nellore and performed Seetarama

Kalyanam Harikatha (a medium to convey a theme in musical ex-

pression and in humorous form) to commemorate the event.

22.05.1982 (Saturday): I met Sri Krishna Rao, PA to the Collector

and told him about the ashram site. He talked over phone with the

RDO and asked him to initiate necessary action in the matter. I

went to Golagamudi in the night and discussed with Sri Chattayya,

the village-head, about the matter of registration of Sri Anjaneya

Swamy Temple.

24.05.1982 (Monday): In the afternoon I went to the electricity

office and enquired about the availability of electrical meters. It

was said that the meters were not available. From there I went to

Gopi Saw Mill at Settigunda road. There, a donor promised to do-

nate bricks and concrete to the ashram. From there, I proceeded

to Santapeta and requested Sri Sudhakar Reddy, lorry owner, to

send a lorry. He obliged, but did not take any hire charges.

25.05.1982 (Tuesday): I went to Pottepalem and met Smt. Bachela

Aademma. She told that if I arranged a lorry, she could offer cer-

tain articles available with her. She was bed-ridden with paralysis.

03.06.1982 (Thursday) : Myself and Sri Adinarayana Reddy placed

chits before Swamy to decide the place for constructing of dhuni

(fire) place. We asked Sri Guruvaiah to pick a chit. The result was

to construct it near the pillar. As Mataji Tulasavva was very sick, I

went in the car of her son Sri Adinarayana Reddy to Nellore and

brought Dr. Vivekananda to Golagamudi for treating her and came

back.

12.06.1982 (Saturday) : I met Sri Mira Modin, Contractor. Without

asking any hire charges, he arranged for two lorry trips. We paid

Rs. 45/- to the hamalis. Myself, Sri Bujji Naidu (Golagamudi), Sri

Venkata Muni Reddy (Tirupati) and Sri Velooru Rama Naidu (Nagula

Vellatur) decided to donate Rs. 300/- each for the construction of

ashram kitchen.

27.06.1982 (Sunday): When myself and Sri Guruvaiah were with

Swamy at 11.00 in the night, He said, ‘there will not be any scar-

city‘.

30.06.1982 (Wednesday): We sold the gold ear rings donated by

Soutamuluru Venkamma weighing 3 Grams & 550 Milligrams. At

the gold shop the rate quoted was Rs. 400/- and the ear-rings were

disposed off.

05.07.1982 (Monday): Smt. Mataji Tulasavva was admitted in a

hospital. I purchased Horlicks and bread (bun) for Swamy.

08.07.1982 (Thursday): When I was sleeping in Sri Anjaneya

Swamy temple, I was awakened at midnight for the reason that a

scorpion has stung the hostel warden of Anikepalli. Praying

Gurudeva, I offered treatment to the person and the pain receded.

10.07.1982 (Saturday) : When I went to the hospital to see Mataji

Tulasavva, she was asleep. I did not wake her up. On the neigh-

boring bed, a boy was struggling in agony with severe stomach

ache. I placed the photo of Swamy on his stomach and prayed

Gurudeva, the Pious and Auspicious God. The boy got relief from

the agony and soon became normal.

13.07.1982 (Tuesday): When I had been to hospital to see ailing

Mataji Tulasavva, she asked me, ‘will you take me to the ashram

or not? Otherwise, Swamy will impose a fine on you’. I said, ‘if it is

so, I will know the same from Swamy’. So saying, I came to the

ashram and asked Swamy, ‘do we still keep the mother at the hos-

pital or get her back’. Swamy replied, ‘it’s better to bring her here’.

Afterwards Sri Guruvaiah told me, ‘brother in the morning Swamy

called you twice, as Venkatramaiah, come, come’.

14.07.1982 (Wednesday) : Mataji Tulasamma was discharged

from Nellore hospital and brought to Golagamudi by 12 noon in

the car of Sri Adinarayana Reddy.

16.07.1982 (Friday) : Before proceeding to Kadapa in connection

with my daughter Revathi’s matrimonial affair, I sought Gurudeva’s

blessings. He said, ‘ayya, we have calculated everything. He is

within our calculations. Hence, we shall look after everything’.

18.07.1982 (Sunday) : After offering arti (waving of light) to

Gurudeva, the Light of Knowledge, Sri Giri, correspondent of Andhra

Jyothi and Sri H. Srinivas of State Bank of India, despite rain, have

left Golagamudi along with their friends on bicycles. The bicycle

of Sri Srinivasa Rao was all right till he reached home; but immedi-

ately after getting down at home, the cycle tyre got punctured.

They felt that in case that thing had happened mid-way, it would

have been extremely troublesome. It’s because of ‘Gurudeva’s

Grace’ the incident occurred only after reaching home safely.

19.07.1982 (Monday) : As part of worshipping Gurudeva, after

having a bath in the early morning, a coconut was broken and arti

offered. Sri Rosi Reddy, who was with Swamy was invited to begin

the work of removing palmyra leaves which were placed as a soft

covering to the kitchen. Later, others too removed a couple of the

leaves each. From 2.30 in the afternoon, we removed all the ar-

ticles from the old kitchen and placed them in the new ashram.

With the assistance of villagers, all the kitchen items were placed

in a heap. For the new kitchen, we bargained for laying the floor-

ing with a kind of light red stone (bontha rayi) with a person of

Eedagali village @ Rs. 5/- per Sq. yard and paid an advance of Rs.

5/- to him.

21.07.1982 (Wednesday): In the morning, myself along with Sri

Krishnam Ramayya, Sri Doragarla Juvaiah and Sri Veluru Venkatayya

completed the roof covering work over the kitchen. As there was a

shortfall of 200 palmyra leaves, we purchased them for Rs. 8/-. In

the ashram itself, we arranged for tea, tiffin and meals to the work-

ers. As usual, I went to the town, gave injections and returned

back.

22.07.1982 (Thursday): Engaging an auto I went to the Putturu

doctor (female) at Moolapet, Nellore and brought her to Golagmudi.

Mataji Tulasamma who was suffering with a fracture in the hip

was bandaged by the doctor. It was 10.00 in the night when I

dropped her back at Nellore.

25.07.1982 (Sunday): Sri Nageswara Rao, a disciple of Swamy

engaged his new tractor in the service of Gurudeva. In that tractor

we went to the house of Smt. Bachela Ademma. She joyfully do-

nated 40 cement sheets, a door plank and a cot to the ashram. We

arrived at Golagamudi at 1.30 in the afternoon. At 3.00 PM we

went to Gopi Saw Mill, Nellore, in the same tractor and brought

some palmyra tree-trunks cut to size. We reached Golagamudi at

12 midnight. After having meals, we went to the saw mill again at

3.00 AM and brought the remaining material. By that time it

dawned.

27.07.1982 (Tuesday): I summoned Sri Rajaiah, carpenter and asked

him to prepare a list of required wooden furniture and paid him an

advance of Rs. 10/-. I arranged to lift the palmyra tree-trunks avail-

able in the village to the saw mill at Nellore, to be drawn by a twin-

bullock cart, and paid an advance of Rs. 25/-.

28.07.1982 (Wednesday): The wood was cut to required dimen-

sions at the Gopi Saw Mill.

31.07.1982 (Saturday): Sri Akula Subrahmanyam, Editor of

‘Simhapuri’ news paper, had darshan of Gurudeva and sat before

Him. On experiencing some unusual thrill, all the while he stayed

before Swamy. He disclosed the incident in the newspaper as a

news item.

01.08.1982 (Sunday): I went to Simhapuri press, gave the photo

block of Bhagavan’s photo and ordered for printing 500 copies of

the prayer book.

05.08.1982 (Thursday): We went to Teacher, Venkamma’s house

at Southamuluru. She invited us cordially and donated some

wooden furniture for the ashram.

07.08.1982 (Saturday): During the Bhajan programme at Sri

Anjaneya Swamy temple, Teacher, Sri Errabelli Narayana of Nagula

Vellaturu village assisted me in arranging a garland of 108 choic-

est names and praises composed in favor of Gurudeva (Astottara

Shata Namavali).

14.08.1982 (Saturday): At 3.30 in the morning, at Guru Nilayam,

Nellore, I sat in the Pooja Mandir of Swamy and composed the

‘Astottara Shata Namavali’ on Swamy. When I was composing the

(Om, the merciful and compassionate form, my prostrations to You),

the rosary consisting of rudraksha beads (rudraksha mala) deco-

rated to the photo of Swamy slipped down. At the very moment, I

lost conscious of myself and felt emotively thrilled and prayed to

Swamy’s Pious and Divine Feet within my heart and continued my

composition. Before morning, Gurudeva gave me the spirit to com-

pose the ‘Srivari Pooja Vidhanam’ (a booklet on the procedure for

performance of Pooja to Gurudeva). I went to the lathe machine

workshop of Sri Bujjaiah and asked him to emboss the name of

Swamy on the iron door, so as to fix it at the ashram.

20.08.1982 (Friday): After the night arati was finished, we were

having meals. At that time, warden Elajayya along with some hos-

tel children brought Master Sai Prasad, a nine year old boy on his

shoulder who fell unconscious due to breathlessness. Immedi-

ately, I tied a cloth of Swamy to the boy’s neck, applied the holy

ash and gave him a spoon of Bronchordial syrup. He regained con-

sciousness, whereupon I administered a Deriphilin injection too.

We took him in the last bus available from Golagamudi to Nellore

and admitted him at the Government Hospital, Nellore and came

back at 11.30 in the night. I paid Rs. 80/- for the bus.

21.08.1982 (Saturday): In the night, Swamy gave a wonderful

dream appearance to Sri Guruvaiah. In the dream, ‘I was standing

in between the photos of Swamy and Sai Baba. The photo of Swamy

is seen merging with that of Sai Baba’s photo. At that time, I woke-

up Guruvaiah who was sleeping beside me, and told, ‘anna, Swamy

is merging with Sai Baba. See, you see’. Guruvaiah told; I spoke

thus.

Thus, Bhagavan hinted His journey in advance to His chil-

dren. Shathasahasra pranamams (a lakh of obesiances) to our Di-

vinely Father.

Sitting before His Cosmic Form in the afternoon at Golagamudi

ashram, for 108 times, I recited the following sloka:

Om Sri Sadguru Parabrahmane Namaha: Saranam Saranam

Om Sri Sadguru Parabrahma Swaroopaya Namaha: Saranam

Saranam

Om Sri Sadguru Paramatma Swaroopaya Namaha: Saranam

Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Sadguru Venkayarya Swamine Namaha:

Saranam Saranam

I got up and stood before Swamy. Till then, Swamy who was

resting towards the western side suddenly turned towards me and

forced open His Eyes. Swamy stationed His look on me and thrice

showed His right hand pointing finger towards the ground. The

time was two-o-clock in the afternoon. Sri Guruvaiah came close

to Swamy. After having my lunch and taking rest for some time, I

readied myself to go to Nellore by the 4.00 PM bus. Prior to that, I

approached Swamy for having His darshan and many devotees were

eagerly waiting for His darshan at that time. After having darshan

of Swamy with reverence, I came back to Nellore. However, I could

not go to Golgamudi, since I missed the last available bus to that

place.

25.08.1982 (Wednesday): Sri Veluru Venkataiah was waiting for

me at my house in Moolapet. Soon after I met him, he told,

‘Bhagavan was not at all feeling well since last night due to breath-

lessness. We are unable to identify the cause. A person has gone

to Penavarthy village to convey and bring Sri Adinarayana Reddy,

the beloved devotee of Gurudeva. Sri Bujji Naidu informed me that

I should come immediately to Golagamudi. Sri Adinarayana Reddy

and his family came in a car to Moolapet, waited for a while and

deputed Sri Venkataiah to inform me to start immediately even in

an auto to Golagamudi’. I was shocked on hearing the never-to-be

heard words and which news I never wish to hear or happen in

reality. Dumb-found, I could not decide what to do. However, re-

covering within no time, I borrowed Rs. 200/- from Smt. Pavuluri

Anasuyamma to meet expenditure, if any. Myself, my wife and Sri

Venkataiah started to Madras bus stand by rickshaw. Sri Venkataiah

got down on the way at Zilla Parishad Office to bring Sri C.V.

Ramanaiah.

As we reached the bus stand, a bus was ready for Golagamudi.

After boarding the bus, I enquired Sri Bujji Naidu (who was in the

same bus) as to what happened to Swamy. He said that Swamy

had been in an unconscious state since last evening and that they

were unable to judge the situation of Swamy; whether He was in a

superconscious state (Nirvikalpa Samadhi) or otherwise. When

we reached the ashram, Swamy, the Heavenly Father and the Sav-

ior of the Universe appeared in a peaceful and static state on the

bed. When I was standing close to Bhagavan, Banku Penchalaiah

tried to shower some flowers on His Divine Form. I roared with

emotion, ‘nobody should shower flowers on Swamy. Our Divine

Father has not gone anywhere. Don’t do anything till Saturday’.

After that, I prostrated to Swamy and went close to my Divine Fa-

ther and examined His pulse. Oh! My Divine Father! What a miracle!

He’s the Savior of the Universe. I felt the pulse of the Creator and

the God Almighty. My astonishment and joy knew no bounds.

Immediately, I offered Bhagavan’s Hand to Sri Adi Narayana Reddy

beside me, to check the pulse. He also expressed the same opin-

ion.

I loudly shouted before the gathering of thousands of people,

saying that, ‘we are not going to move Swamy from here until

Saturday’. We sent Sri Sompalli Penchalaiah (son of Swamy’s

brother) to Talupuru, Nagula Vellaturu and other surrounding vil-

lages to inform the devotees about the position of Swamy. We have

also sent a word to Sri Giri, son of Sri Ramanaiah, correspondent of

Andhra Jyothi news paper. From there we went to the shop of Sri

Ratnaiah Setty and bought some articles on credit for Rs. 62.10 ps.

We have informed Swamy’s condition to Sri Satyanarayana

Tahasildar and other important persons over phone. I went to Arya

Vysya Nilayam at Stonehousepet, Nellore and sent carpets to

Golagamudi in a bus. From there I went to the telegraph office

and sent telegrams to some other devotees. Though we were late

by half-an-hour, by the Grace of Swamy, the bus was waiting for

us. We reached Golagamudi by the last bus. At Golagamudi, when

I went to Swamy, Sri Guruvaiah told me that Dr G.C. Narayana, Smt.

& Sri V. Venkateswarlu, Income Tax Officer and others have visited

Bhagavan and left. He further told that the doctor after examining

Swamy said, ‘Swamy has left to the eternal world of Gods by leav-

ing His mortal body here’. The whole night was spent singing hymns

and doing Bhajans. Sri Giri has come from Nellore and gathered

brief history of Swamy and the events that followed before His

leaving the mortal world; so as to publish the same in Andhra Jyothi

newspaper. A doctor who came from Nellore said that he would

publish leaflets about Swamy leaving His Mortal Coil and distrib-

ute them to public.

I sat before Swamy, the Indweller of our hearts, and wrote a

message for publication in the leaflet, as “Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri

Venkaiah Swamy left this mortal world to the eternal world of Gods.

Have His divine Darshan, offer prayers and be blessed’’. (Bhagavan

Sri Sri Sri Venkayarya Swamula Vari Kailasa Prapti. Bhaktulu Vachchi

Bhagawanula varini darsinchukoni poojinchukoni tarinchandi).

While myself and Sri Giri were talking with each other; at about

1.30 in the night, Sri Guruvaiah came and told, ‘Swamy appeared

to me in the form of my father and told to arrange for His Samadhi

on the third day. Hence, we will do it tomorrow evening’. As such,

I approached Mataji Tulasavva and asked her about the time and

place where the Samadhi of Swamy has to be located. She said,

‘ayya, it would be better on Saturday, because it also happens to

be the auspicious dashami (is the Sanskrit word for “ten”, and is

the tenth day in the lunar fortnight ( Paksha) of the Hindu calen-

dar). It will be good if the Samadhi of Swamy is located outside the

ashram’. But my inner-self did not agree with the idea of placing

Swamy’s mortal body outside the new ashram. That night, I took

part in the Bhajan programme. Afterwards, Sri Guruvaiah came

and told me, ‘brother, you left for Nellore on Tuesday evening. We

missed Swamy in our thought and spirit’.

Ah! What a wonder! The predicting gesture of my Father

Gurudeva (turning towards me and looking at me with compas-

sion, thrice He pointed His right hand point finger towards the

ground; thereby indicating His physical departure of mortal body

from this mortal world), I could not follow. Further, He sent me

away from Him to my place and He Himself left on His journey to

Kailasa. Was it not? But, I could not express in words the agony

and dejection I underwent for the lapse on my part; for, neither

could I grasp His predicting gesture nor could I be with Him (my

father) at that time.

26.08.1982 (Thursday): In the morning I sent Mallem Venkaiah

(an ashram dweller) to Pottepalem village to inform Bachela

Ademma about the tragic event. Later I went to the shop of Sri

Ratnaiah Shetty and procured provisions. From there, I went to

Chinna Bazar where I bought vegetables, perfume, rose water, in-

cense sticks and went to Madras bus stand. There I met Sri Nutheti

Appaiah and Kalavakuru Subba Reddy, villagers of Nagula Vellaturu.

I gave them the provisions and other items meant to be sent to

Golagamudi. I gave order to Suribabu for flowers and garlands.

From there I went to Gopi Saw Mill at Settigunta Road and col-

lected free of charge two bags of saw dust. From there I procured

ice at the Vasavi Ice Factory, took dettol in the bazar and purchased

flower garlands outside the Madras bus stop. In the bus stand, Sri

Venkataiah, son of Sri Veluri Govindaiah told that Swamy indicated

with deep emotion through Guruvaiah (as if possessed), that, ‘If

the body is not laid to rest (Samadhi) today before 10 o’clock in the

night, all the three worlds will be reduced to ashes’. Straight away

we reached Golagamudi by 1.00 PM by car. I am told that, in a fit

of emotion, Sri Guruvaiah lifted Swamy on his shoulders and shifted

him to the new ashram at about 10 o’clock in the morning. We

were in a dilemma to choose the best day i.e., Thursday or Satur-

day to rest Gurudeva in the Samadhi. In a bid to clear our appre-

hensions, we wrote two chits, one for Thursday and the other for

Saturday and kept them on Swamy’s body. We asked Sri Naga Tata

(Rosi Reddy) to take out a chit. The answer is Thursday. As de-

cided, arrangements were made for devotees to have darshan of

Swamy in a queue order under the supervision of Sri S.L. Kumar.

Mason Subhan, Ramaswamy, the mason from Mulapet and people

of Golagamudi village began to dig a pit in the premises of new

ashram. The mortal body of Bhagavan was kept in the verandah of

the ashram

After three days, i.e., on the day of Samadhi, swelling is no-

ticed at the left eye of Swamy. The left eye lid kept beating from

morning till the Samadhi ritual is finished at midnight. Some per-

sons could notice a divine glow in the the center of Swamy’s fore-

head (Brumadya). While the mortal body of Swamy was carried to

the verandah, a delicate cut was noticed, perhaps inflicted by

somebody’s finger nail on His left shoulder. We noticed fresh blood

oozing out from the cut and we tied a cloth to prevent the bleed-

ing. On the third day, Swamy appeared to the devotees as similar

to the idol in a temple. His stiff shoulders became still as if they

were chiselled out of a stone. Sri Veturu Venkataiah, Sri Kumar

along with villagers Sri Yellambaku Seshaiah and Gumidi Chettaiah

were regularizing the devotees in paying thier respects at

Gurudeva’s Sacred Feet (Pada Namaskaram). About two thousand

coconuts were offered from morning till the conclusion of Samadhi

ceremony. An amount of Rs. 227/- (in coins) was offered at the

Divine Feet of Swamy by the devotees, which was also placed in

the Samadhi. I collected 5 litres of milk at Nellore and from there

I went to Ratnaiah Shetty’s shop where camphor and the fragrant

gum benzoin (sambrani) was purchased. A band (a music group)

was also arranged. From there I went to the Pedda Bazar and bought

scented water, scent, gold, silver, pearl, coral (pagadamu) and from

there I went to Stonehousepet and bought coconuts. Sri P. Munu

Swamy, the ashram head of Vedullacheruvu Ashram had come from

Renigunta. He was very familiar in initiating Samadhi of several

eminent saints and mendicants. It was perhaps with the blessings

of Gurudeva, I felt like entrusting the sacred task of performing the

Samadhi rituals to Sri P. Munu Swamy. After collecting milk, I went

to the photo studio located opposited to Sarvodaya college. I asked

the studio owner to come to Golagamudi. We started to Golagamudi

via Kantepalli village along with Sri Adinarayana Reddy. When we

reached the Harijanwada of Kantepalli, the front tyre of the car

burst. The time is 7.15 in the night and due to dim light, the villag-

ers have provided two lanterns. In that light the tyre was changed

and we reached the ashram at 8.30. At that time there were two

to three thousand devotees waiting their turn in the queue for

Swamy;s darshan.

Myself, Sri Adinarayana Reddy, Sri Sangam Krishna Reddy and

Sri Golagamudi Bujjaiah had bath. In the process of initiating bath

to Swamy’s mortal body, when Sri Krishna Reddy rubbed the body

of Swamy, the skin peeled off at that place. Thereupon I told ev-

eryone to desist from rubbing His body. After bathing, we deco-

rated Swamy’s body with silk clothes, flower garlands and sprayed

sandal and other perfumes. With the traditional beating of drums

and playing of musical instruments, the mortal body of Swamy was

arranged for procession around the ashram. When the body was

brought to the old ashram where bed-ridden Mataji Tulasavva was

put-up, she bid pranams to Swamy. After making a round of the

old and new ashrams, the mortal body of Gurudeva was placed

near the Samadhi. Sri Sangam Krishna Reddy and Sri Guruvaiah got

down into the Samadhi pit. The mortal body of Swamy was lifted

along with the bedding and placed inside the Samadhi pit. Sangham

Krishna Reddy came out and I (Padarenuvu) got down into the

Samadhi pit. Sri Munuswamy initiated me to perform all the final

rituals that were to be performed to Swamy. Photographs of my-

self (Padarenuvu) and Guruvaiah were taken while while we sat on

each side of Swamy’s mortal body. The Sacred Foot Wear (Holy

Padukas) prepared at the behest of Swamy was touched to His

mortal body. All the devotees and disciples had their last Samadhi

darshan of Bhagavan. It was about 12.30 midnight when the

Samadhi was finally closed. Afterwards, we gave arati to the

Samadhi and had our bath. Food was cooked in the ashram and

served to everyone. From the early hours of Wednesday, Bhajans

were uninterruptedly going on till the Samadhi ceremony was con-

for the construction of ashram could not be concluded.

27.03.1983 (Sunday) : In the morning, Padamati Narayana Swamy

came to me and told that Sri Guruvaiah is calling me. As immedi-

ately as I stepped into the old Ashram, Sri Guruvaiah, Sri Narayana

Swamy, Narasamma and Bujjamma collectively pounced on me in

a fit of rage and demanded to hand-over ashram keys. Sri Rosi

Reddy came menacingly with a stick in hand, and said, ‘we don’t

need any elderly guidance’. Deeply hurt, I felt, for reasons best

known, Gurudeva Himself provoked them with such thoughts and

actions. And, I returned back to Nellore by taking Sri Nooteti

Sriramulu Naidu with me.

28.03.1983 (Monday) : When I told the unpleasant incident at the

Ashram to Sri Adinarayana Reddy, he kept silent. He expressed

that he wanted to supervise the ashram. Having understood the

intention, I asked him to come on 3rd so that I could hand-over the

keys of the ashram. On 03.04.1983 I handed over the keys of

Ashram to Sri Adinarayana Reddy at Gurunilayam, Moolapet,

Nellore.

GURUDEVA’S DIVINE ASSURANCE

Myself (Padarenuvu) and Sri Tikkavarapu Sundara Rami

Reddy were sleeping in the guest room of my house. Around 12 in

the midnight, Sri Sundara Rami Reddy was blessed to hear Swamy’s

voice ….

‘Ayya, I have not gone anywhere. I am very much here. In-

form him (Padarenuvu) that I am here only. Whatever works he

intend to take-up, they will be accomplished. Tell him, not to feel

worried’. These were the words of my father Gurudeva, told in His

own tone and heard by Sri Sundara Rami Reddy. With deep sorrow,

he woke-up and repeated the words of Swamy, whose glory was

unimaginable and unfathomable. How fortunate was Sri Sundara

Rami Reddy for having heard the voice of Swamy.

WHAT A GREAT GOOD FORTUNE

SWAMY BESTOWED ON ME

I am blessed by my fatherly Gurudeva with the precious of

the precious and the choicest of the choicest blessings, which….

…. are not bestowed even upon the greatest of the great saints

who were absorbed in deep penance for thousands of years;

…. are not bestowed even on those who attained God-realiza-

tion (siddhis) and despite rendering life-long dedicated and self-

less service to the Lord of All (sarveswara);

…. are not bestowed on the enlightened ones who relentlessly

beseech for such highly acclaimed and precious boon.

GURU BHAGAVAN’S MAHA SAMADHI

(The final merging into the Absolute)

24.08.1982 (Tuesday): That was the Most Auspicious Day on which

Srivaru (Gurudeva) gave His final orders to this living being

(Padarenuvu).

I sat beside Bhagavan, my father, who was sleeping in the old

ashram at Golagamudi. I kept reciting His sloka ….

Om Sri Sadguru Parabrahmane Namaha: Saranam Saranam

Om Sri Sadguru Parabrahma Swaroopaya Namaha: Saranam

Saranam

Om Sri Sadguru Paramatma Swaroopaya Namaha: Saranam

Saranam

Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Sadguru Venkayarya Swamine Namaha:

Saranam Saranam

I stood-up after reciting the sloka for 108 times. Swamy who

was then resting with His face towards the other side, suddenly

turned towards me and kept looking intently and actively at me.

Then, thrice He showed His right hand pointing finger towards the

ground. The time was two-o-clock in the afternoon. By then, Sri

Guruvaiah came close to Swamy. Staying for a while, I offered

obeisance to Gurudeva and left for Nellore by the 4.00 PM bus. I

had to come back, but, as I missed the last available bus, I could

not go to Golagamudi and hence I remained at Nellore.

I went to the Government Hospital in the morning and re-

turned back at 11.45 AM. Sri Veluru Venkataiah of Golagamudi was

waiting for me at my house. Soon after I came, he told, ‘since last

night Bhagavan was not feeling well due to breathlessness. We

are unable to identify the cause. A person has gone to Penavarthy

village to convey the information and bring Sri Adinarayana Reddy’.

Sri Bujji Naidu informed me that I should bring you immediately to

Golagamudi.

Swamy acquiring a place in the Heavenly abode

of Lord Shiva (Kailasa prapti)

I was shocked on hearing the words which should not be ei-

ther heard or which should not have a place in reality. Dumb-

founded, I could not decide what to do. However, recovering within

no time, I took Rs. 200/- and along with my wife and Sri Venkataiah

started to Madras bus stand in a rickshaw. As we reached the bus

stand, a bus was ready for Golagamudi. Upon boarding the bus, I

saw Sri Bujji Naidu and enquired as to what happened to Swamy.

He said that, ‘Swamy was in an unconscious state since last evening.

There is no change in His condition even till the morning arati time.

We are unable to judge whether He is in a state of absolute noth-

ingness (Nirvikalpa Samadhi) or otherwise’. Sri Banku Penchalaiah

who too was travelling in the same bus told, ‘I am getting flowers’.

I had an inner feeling that Swamy should not be moved till Satur-

day. As humans, we were no match to evaluate His state. Hence,

I thought, no decision should be taken until Saturday. I resolved

that whatever was to be done, it should be done on Saturday only.

And, I told the fact to Sri Bujji Naidu.

When we reached Golagamudi ashram, Swamy, the Heavenly

Father and the Savior of the Universe, appeared asleep in a peace-

ful and static state. While I was closely watching Bhagavan,

Penchalaiah tried to shower some flowers on His Divine Form. I

shouted emotionally, ‘nobody should place flowers on Swamy. Our

Divine Father has not gone anywhere. Let us wait upto Saturday’.

After that, I prostrated to Swamy and went close to my Divine Fa-

ther and examined His pulse. Oh! My Divine Father! What a miracle!

I felt the pulse of the Creator, the God Almighty and the Savior of

the Universe. My astonishment and joy knew no bounds. Immedi-

ately, I offered Bhagwan’s Hand to Sri Adi Narayana Reddy beside

me, to check the pulse. He also expressed the same opinion and

we felt extremely delighted. Emotively charged, I shouted loudly

before the thousands of people assembled there saying that, ‘un-

til Saturday we are not going to move Swamy’.

We sent Sri Sompalli Penchalaiah (son of Swamy’s brother)

to Talupuru, Nagula Vellaturu and other surrounding villages to

inform the devotees about the situation of Swamy. From there I

went to the shop of Sri Ratnaiah Setty at Nellore and bought some

articles on credit for Rs. 62.10 ps. After that I went to Sri

Satyanarayana, Tahasildar and explained to him about Swamy’s

alarming health condition. Similarly, I informed Dr G.C. Narayana,

Sri V. Venkateswarlu, Income Tax Officer and some others about

Swamy’s condition.

Along with items lent on credit at Sri Ratnaiah Setty’s shop, I

also procured eight carpets (jambukhana) from the Arya Vysya

Kalyana Mandapam. I handed over them to the villagers of Nagula

Vellaturu, Sri Veluru Venkatramaiah and Sri Kuchi Adeyya and trans-

ported them to Golagamudi. Telegraphic messages were sent to

important persons about Swamy’s alarming health, for which an

amount of Rs. 341/- was incurred. After that, I reached Golagamudi

in a bus. In the night while we were in ashram Sri Guruvaiah told

that, Dr. G.C. Narayana Rao and Smt. & Sri Venkateswarlu have

paid a visit. He further told that Dr. G.C. Narayana Rao had exam-

ined Swamy and said, Swamy has left to the eternal world of Gods.

Sri Giri, correspondent of Andhra Jyothi newspaper has come from

Nellore in the night and gathered brief history of Swamy. Another

doctor who came along with Sri Giri told that he would publish

leaflets about Swamy leaving His Mortal Coil and distribute them

to public. Then, I sat before Swamy, the Indweller of our hearts,

and wrote a message for publication in the leaflet, as “Bhagwan

Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy has left this mortal world to the eternal

blessed’. (Bhagwan Sri Sri Sri Venkayarya Swamula Vari Kailasa

Prapti. Bhaktulu Vachchi Bhagawanula varini darsinchukoni

poojinchukoni tarinchandi). While myself and Sri Giri were talking

with each other; at about 1.30 in the night, Sri Guruvaiah came

and told, ‘Swamy appeared to me in the form of my father and

told to arrange His Samadhi on the third day. Hence, we will do it

tomorrow evening’. As such, I approached Mataji Tulasavva and

asked her about the time and place where the Samadhi of Swamy

was to be located. She said, ‘ayya, it would be better on Saturday,

because it also happens to be the auspicious dashami. It will be

good if the Samadhi of Swamy is situated outside the ashram’. But

my inner-self did not agree with the idea of placing Swamy’s mor-

tal coil outside the new ashram. That night (25.08.1982, Wednes-

day) I took part in the Bhajan programme. Afterwards, Sri Guruvaiah

came and told me, ‘brother, you left for Nellore on Tuesday evening.

We missed Swamy in our thought and spirit’. Ah! What a wonder!

The predicting gesture of my Father (turning towards me and look-

ing at me with compassion, thrice He pointed His right hand point

finger towards the ground; thereby indicating His physical depar-

ture of mortal body from this mortal world), I could not follow.

Further, He sent me away from Him to my place and He Himself

left on His journey to Kailasa. Was it not? But, I could not express

in words the agony and dejection I underwent for the lapse on my

part; for, neither could I grasp His predicting gesture nor could I be

with Him (my father) at that time.

The next day (Thursday) morning I went to the house of Dr.

G.C. Narayana Reddy at Nellore and asked about the likely precau-

tions to be taken to the mortal body of Swamy. He told, nothing

will happen to the godly person’s body. Yet, keep dettol (anti-

infectant) and ice blocks.

I sent Sri Mallen Venkaiah (pitchi venkaiah), an ashram

dweller to Pottepalem village to inform Bachela Ademma about

Gurudeva’s alarming situation.

Later I went to the shop of Sri Ratnaiah Shetty and procured

provisions and from there to Chinna Bazar where I bought veg-

etables, perfume, rose water, incense sticks and went to Madras

bus stand. I sent the items with the persons going to Golagamudi.

I gave order to Suribabu for flowers and garlands at the bus stand.

From there I went to Gopi Saw Mill at Settigunta Road and col-

lected two bags of saw dust at free of charge and after taking

dettol and ice blocks I reached Madras bus stand.

THE SACRED DAY OF GURU

BHAGAVAN’S ‘MAHA SAMADHI’

26.08.1982 (Thursday) : At the bus stand, Sri Venkataiah, son

of Sri Veluri Govindaiah told, Swamy gave a message with deep

emotion through a possessed Guruvaiah, as, ‘If the body is not laid

to rest (Samadhi) today before 10 o’clock in the night, all the three

worlds will be reduced to ashes’. Straight away we reached

Golagamudi by 1.00 PM by car. I was told that, in a fit of emotion,

Sri Guruvaiah lifted Swamy on his shoulders and shifted him to the

new ashram at about 10 o’clock in the morning. We were in a

dilemma to choose the best day i.e., Thursday or Saturday to rest

Gurudeva in the Samadhi. In a bid to clear our apprehensions, we

wrote two chits, one for Thursday and the other for Saturday and

kept them on Swamy’s body. We asked Sri Guddi Naga Tata (Rosi

Reddy) to take out a chit. The answer was Thursday. Immediately I

left in the car of Sri Adi Narayana Reddy to Nellore and enquired

about Sri Subrahmanyam, the priest. But, at that time he was away

from home.

Mason Subhan, Ramaswamy, the mason from Mulapet located

the spot for Swamy’s Samadhi and took the required measurements

in the new ashram. There, the villagers of Golagamudi began to

dig a pit. The mortal body of Bhagavan was rested in the verandah

of the ashram and no change was noticed in His body until 10 0’

clock in the morning.

Later, some swelling was noticed at the left eye along with

movement of the eye-lid. And, surprisingly at times, no visibility

of swelling was noticed at the same eye. Some revered disciples

and devotees noticed a divine glow in the center of Swamy’s fore-

head (Brumadya). This miraculous phenomenon continued till His

mortal body was laid to rest in the Samadhi pit. While the mortal

body of Swamy was carried to the verandah, a delicate cut was

noticed, (perhaps inflicted by somebody’s finger nail while lifting

the body) on Swamy’s left shoulder. Fresh blood was noticed ooz-

ing out from the cut and we tied a cloth to prevent the bleeding.

Swamy appeared to the devotees as similar to the idol in a temple.

His two shoulders became stiff and resembled as if they were

carved out of a stone. Sri Veturu Venkataiah, Sri Kumar along with

villagers Sri Yellambaku Seshaiah and Gumidi Chettaiah were regu-

larizing the queue of devotees in paying their last respects at

Gurudeva’s Sacred Feet (Pada Namaskaram). About two thousand

coconuts were offered from morning till the conclusion of Samadhi.

An amount of Rs. 227/- (in coins) was offered at the Divine Feet of

Swamy by the devotees, which was placed in the Samadhi.

No priest was readily available in Nellore town. I told the

brother of Seenaiah to ensure that the band troupe reached

Golagamudi by evening. I went to the Pedda Bazar and bought

scented water, scent, gold, silver, pearl, coral (pagadamu), coco-

nuts etc. Once again I went for the family priest Sri Subrahmanyam,

but he has not yet returned back. Immediately (at Gurudeva’s in-

stance) a thought sprang in me that Sri P. Munu Swamy, the ashram

head of Vedullacheruvu Ashram had come from Renigunta. He

was a familiar priest who had performed Samadhi related rituals

of several eminent saints and mendicants. It was perhaps with

the blessings of Gurudeva, I felt like entrusting the sacred task of

performing the Samadhi rituals to Sri P. Munu Swamy. From there,

I went to the Sabita photo studio and took the photographer with

me to Golagamudi. We started our journey to Golagamudi via

Kantepalli village. The time was 7.15 in the night and at the time

the front tyre of the car got punctured. While we were trying to

change the tyre in the dim light, the villagers provided lanterns. In

that light we changed the tyre and reached the ashram at 8.30 in

the night. At that time there were two to three thousand devotees

waiting their turn in the queue for Swamy’s darshan.

Thereupon I told

everyone to desist from rubbing His body. After bathing, we deco-

rated Swamy’s body with silk clothes, flower garlands and sprayed

sandal and other perfumes. With the traditional beating of drums

and playing of musical instruments, the mortal body of Swamy was

arranged for a procession around the ashram. When the body was

brought to the old ashram where bed-ridden Mataji Tulasavva was

put-up, she offered obeisance to Swamy. After going round the old

and new ashrams, the mortal body of Gurudeva was placed near

the place of Samadhi pit. Sri Sangam Krishna Reddy and Sri

Guruvaiah got down into the Samadhi pit. The mortal body of Swamy

was lifted along with the bedding and placed inside the Samadhi

pit. Sangham Krishna Reddy came out of the pit. Seeing me,

Guruvaiah shouted, ‘brother, (anna) get in (lopaliki ra)’. I

(Padarenuvu) got down into the Samadhi pit of Gurudeva’s mortal

coil. Sri Munuswamy initiated me to perform all the final rituals

that were to be performed to Swamy. Photographs of myself

(Padarenuvu) and Guruvaiah were taken while we sat on each side

of Swamy’s mortal body.

The Holy Foot Wear (Padukas) prepared at the behest of Swamy

was tenderly touched to His mortal body. The Sacred Foot Wear

was worshipped by devotees even today. All the devotees and

disciples had their last Samadhi darshan of Bhagavan. It was about

12.30 midnight when the Samadhi pit was finally closed. After-

wards, arati was offered to the Samadhi. The arati offered to

Gurudeva was as usually offered on Wednesday and Thursday too.

From the night of Wednesday till the conclusion of Samadhi cer-

emony, Bhajans were continuously performed by the bhajan troupe

of Sri Tanjavur Krishnaiah of Golagamudi. The bhajan troupe of

Venkaiah (of Manubolu village) had also participated in the bhajan

programme on Wednesday and Thursday. After conclusion of

Samadhi ceremony, food was served to thousands of people. On

that night, myself and my younger son Chi. Gopi slept on the Maha

Samadhi of Gurudeva. From the following day, the programme of

initiation of the 40-day sacred bath (Mandala Abhishekam) began.

On 02.10.1982, the programme concluded on a grand scale by ex-

ceptional performance of bhajans by devotees. Offering of food to

the assembly of brahmins and serving of food to thousands and

thousands of devotees went on a grand scale.

THE GLORY OF MAHA SAMADHI

Once the bondage of samsara is snapped, the soul becomes

pure and absolute. This is stated in the Holy Epic Bhagawad Gita.

Completely renouncing material life and totally devoid of attach-

ments; in a state of absolute nothingness (Nirvikalpa Samadhi), it

is but the leela of God-Incarnate to appear in a physical form of a

human. Yet, He is infinite and dwells in all the living creatures and

non-living forms of the universe. He is the All-Pervading and Su-

preme Universal Soul. He is the Supreme Power who rules over the

universe. Such an exceptional Omnipresent Form, exists all over,

in the Form of a Soul in every living creature of the universe.

Gurudeva, in fact, is the Form of Universal Soul, an Enlightended

Master. As in the past, He eternally rules and dwells in the heart

of every devotee.

PUBLICATION OF ARTICLE ON

SWAMY IN “SIMHAPURI”(a weekly journal) on 01.09.1982, Wednesday

Bhagavan Sri Sri Sri Venkaiah Swamy, an ascetic, who re-

nounced all worldly attachments (Avadhuta), brought to a halt His

journey of mundane life at 3.30 PM on 24.08.1982 at Golagamudi,

a village adjoining Nellore Town. Staying immortal, He left on His

last journey. While thousands of devotees thronged the place,

thousands engaged in doing bhajan, people offered coconuts and

waved camphor-lit lights, which have all accumulated like a hill-

ock. With tears trickling down their cheeks, they were viewing

Gurudeva’s Divine Radiance in that glow. He was laid to Samadhi

(the final conscious abandoning of physical body) on 26.08.1982.

Three days after He breathed His last i.e., on the day of Samadhi,

Swamy’s left eye swelled and until the body was laid to rest in the

Samadhi pit, the left eye kept on blinking from morning till the

conclusion of Samadhi ceremony at midnight. Apart, His left shoul-

der which accidentally was inflicted with a light scratch of a nail,

surprisingly was oozing fresh blood on the third day. Oh ! What a

miracle was it!

Sri C. Munu Swamy of Vedula Cheruvu Ashram undertook the

responsibility of performing the Samadhi ceremony. Both the hands

of Swamy looked as if transformed like a black colored stone. By

his great good fortune, Sri Makani Venkata Rao placed Swamy’s

mortal body in the Samadhi pit.

Mrs. Seetha Ravamma, wife of Sri Vallapureddi Adinrayana

Reddy, Smt. Lakshmamma, wife of Sri Makani Venkat Rao, Sri

Puligoru Venkata Ramana Reddy, Sri Sangam Krishna Reddy, Sri

Korakooti Bujjaiah Naidu of Golagamudi and other village heads

were the blessed ones who partook in the ritual of initiating bath

(abishekamu) to Swamy and for reverentially placing a cart load of

flowers on the mortal body of Swamy. Special programmes were

day on which Mandala Abhisekhamu and other events were held

on a large scale.

Before I conclude the composition of this article, I reproduce

the words of Swamy, narrated some twenty years ago, ‘even if

Venkaiah does not exist physically, whoever comes to Me and seecks

refuge, their prayers are answered and desires fulfilled’.
