Our construction is nearly complete, so the building fund is transitioning to an ongoing support fund for the Demmer Library. The Three Lakes Public Library Foundation will continue to support the library with furnishings and incidentals, and wants to help support the programs that will make the most of our new space. Donations after 6/1/2019 will be applied to a general fund until a specific new project is identified in collaboration with the Demmer Board of Trustee’s strategic planning initiative.

The 501c(3) Three Lakes Public Library Foundation can accept cash, appreciated stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and IRA distributions.

Are you still accepting donations?

Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library Yes, I want to support the Three Lakes Public Library Foundation’s work!

Since July 2017, my space in this newsletter has been called “What’s Happening with the

Building?” since that’s the question I heard most often as we launched into design and

construction of the remodeled building, moved out of the old building, worked out of temporary

locations, and then moved back in and opened up.

But, now, just over two years later, not everything is about the structure anymore. Yes, there’s

lots of ooh-ing and ahh-ing, but now the questions are about is happening inside the building we

built. Are the puzzles in the vestibule really free for the taking? What craft or activity is waiting in

the Libratory? Is there going to be another book club? More programs for adults? For tweens?

For babies?

All these questions means it’s time to start strategic planning. A small team of two board

members (Paul Kaiser and Ann Asbeck), three intrepid community members (Nancy Brewster,

Rich Mahlerwein, and Heidi Raddatz), and I will be meeting regularly with a planning facilitator

(the Antigo library director) through the fall and into the winter. Our goal is to answer the

question, “What’s happening IN the library?” for the next five years.

And we want to hear from you. Paul, Ann, Nancy, Rich, Heidi, and I will be charged with

homework to reach out, and we want to hear from you. We want your ideas and input. We can’t

possibly do everything we dream of, so we want to do the most important things and do them

well. Watch for some informal surveys, but don’t wait – email me at

[email protected], leave a note at the front desk, or track down somebody on the

planning team and talk with them.

We spent the last 10 years focused on getting this building built. Now we can spend the next 50

years making use of it – and we’re going to plan on making the best use possible.
