The Lemonade Lab

Let’s Do Variables!

Page 2: The Lemonade Lab Let’s Do Variables!. Names In the data table, next to the words Trial 1, Trial 2, Trial 3, and Trial 4, write the names of your group

Names

• In the data table, next to the words Trial 1, Trial 2, Trial 3, and Trial 4, write the names of your group in alphabetical order.

Independent vs Dependent

• Independent Variable – What YOU choose to change when making the lemonade

•Dependent Variable – What you’re looking to change as an effect

In the Data Table

•On the first line under where it says Independent Variable and Dependent Variable, write your selected variables.

Choose and Write Down on Page 19

•My Independent Variable is…

•My Dependent Variable is

Question: Write Down on Page 19

•Question: How does the (Independent Variable) of a cup of lemonade affect its (Dependent Variable)?

Hypothesis: Write It Down on Page 19

• Hypothesis: If I increase the (Independent Variable) of the lemonade, then the (Dependent Variable) will (increase/decrease). I think this will happen because…

Control Variables

•Anything you aren’t going to change is called a Control Variable. The only thing you should be changing is your Independent Variable – in an experiment we call the Independent Variable our Experimental Variable.

Amounts

• The standard amount of control variables to use are on the board.

• In the Independent Variable column, write different amounts of your Experimental Variable for each person in the group.

•Mr. Castroll will help you with this

Getting Data

• As you’re making and drinking the lemonade, everyone needs to record their data in the Dependent Variable column. Everyone has to record data for everyone in their group.

• For sweetness, just rate your cups from 1 (super sour) to 10 (super sweet). For sourness, 1 is super sweet and 10 is super sour

Conclusion – Write on Page 19

• The evidence (supports/contradicts) my hypothesis. When I increased the (Independent Variable) from (First Value) to (Last Value), the (Dependent Variable) (increased/decreased) from (First Value) to (Last Value). I think this happened because _______________. Next time I do a lemonade lab, I will try _____________________.
