What is computer tomography?

Computer tomography (CT) is the LATEST technological way of scanning the internal organs and mapping their functions in three dimensional image using X-rays. Computer tomography allows for more precise medical diagnosis through visualization of the dee-pest inner organs of the human body.

How do we obtain the images?

During one routine CT procedure the patient lies on a table. The source of x-rays is placed on a rotating round base – it is a round x-ray tube.The X-ray tube rotates around the patient’s body, who is comfortably lying on a table.Opposite of the x-rays lie a few detectors that absorb the x- rays passing through the patients body, and than the computer transforms the captured x-rays an image. The table moves the patient into the head of the machine where the x-ray tube and the surface detector are situated.

What is computer tomography?

Types of computer tomography:

CT with one line of detectors is called one slice or mono slice computer tomography. CT with many lines of detectors is called multislice computer tomography.For each activated image, the x-ray tube rotates around the patient and the x-rays are moving into marked area, which makes thousands of x-ray mea-surements. The computer is reprocessing the information giving adequate slices on the screen.

This machine has surpassed the overlapping of the images during scanning of separate organs of the patient.All different images in the computer are giving one final clear image that helps the doctor to see very cle-arly and to differ healthy tissue from diseased tissue.

CT scan uses different types of programs for analysis of the images. The quality of the image depends of: ► the nature of the x-rays ► the speed of each measurement ► the details of reconstructive technique (algorithm) ► the characteri- stics of the machine

-the methodology of the interpretation of data base information-The computer enables shadowing, rotation, correlation of anatomical measure-ments of the image. This information may be manipulated for more precise clini-

cal information.Differences: The conventional x-ray scan is underestimating tissue density for 5%, whilst computer tomography is calcula-ting up to 1% of tissue density or less, which makes for a mi-nimal margin of mistake in the estimation of the anatomy of the internal organs.

How does 64-Slice VCT Scanner function?

The test combines, fast x-rays scanning and multiplied computer tomography in order to obtain detailed images of the organs without any surgical intervention.There are some rare cases when depending of the organ or the scanned area, the patient may receive contrast medium. The contrast is needed while scanning blood vessels in order to enable good visualization of the vessels. The computer is showing the organ’s complete external and detailed internal structure by processing the

x-ray cross-sections and turning them into an organ image.,.The difference between mono slice and 64 slice computer tomography is that in one rotation of the X-ray tube around the patient, the mono slice CT makes one cross-section in width of 1mm in 3 seconds, while the 64slice CT makes 40 cross-sections in width of 0.625mm in less than one second, or just 350ms to be precise.

While examining the head, it takes 40 rotations or cross sections in 120 seconds only to get one ima-ge using the conventional mono slice tomography. In comparison, the 64 slice CT makes 40 cross sections in one rotation in less than ½ second!

In the examination of coronary blood vessels it takes 1.5-2 hours in order to get one image using the conventional way of performing angiography, while with the 64 slice CT you can take one image only in 3.5 seconds with noninvasive technique.

In the examination of blood vessels of the brain with mono slice CT you must use a contrast medium to get an image, and the patient is radiated and the scanning is risky, while with new 64 slice CT, a three dimensional image of the blood vessels of the brain is made only for 5 seconds without any contrast medium, or at least in small quantities. Above all the patient is feeling comfortable and the risk involved is minimal.
