Commissioners Have Important Heeling The board of eouuty commissioners

met last Tuesday morning and re-mained In session until Wednesday af ternoon. On Tuesday the day was entirely consumed wlUi routine work.

On Wednesday tlie commissioners busied themselves with get t ing up es t imates for tlie budget of eipendl-t u r e s d o r l n g t h e coming year. I t was brought o u t t h a t there Is on t h e tax books of t h e county *1,711,000 of tax-able values. I t was decided t h a t a live mill levy will be necessary as was tlie case last year. Of tills levy about four mills Is necessary for county pur-poses, three four t l i so raml l l Is needed wltli which to mee t the Interest on tlie L. & C. bonds, and one four th of a mill goes to the sinking f u n d .

Las t year the total .expenses of t h e county amounted tu about *32,000, leaving a detlclt over and above re-ceipts from taxes of aliout *9,000, *1813.33 of which was furnished by tlie p ro t lu from the dispensary and tlie remainder derived from Hues aud oth-er sources.

During t h e ensuing year tlie e< irises are expected to be about tlie .me, and t h e levy will be allowed to

remain a t tlie same Hgure. T h e board also considered tlie very

Whereas, the (Comptroller General Is a t tempt ing to change the present assessment of property now returned In this s la te to a on ' hundred per-cent basis, the result of which would make untold hardship on t h e now fairly honest lax returner while ihe tax dodder, now In some cases pro-tected. and generally conceals most
