1 Thessalonians 5:3-4  While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.  But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief;

He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.

6When Peace Meets Violence…?Acts 12:3-5 When he saw that it pleased the Jews,

he proceeded to arrest Peter also. Now it was during the days of Unleavened Bread. When he had seized him, he put him in prison, delivering him to four squads of soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring him out before the people. So Peter was kept in the prison… 1 Peter 4:1 Therefore, since Christ has

suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose...

1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.

7The Language of Peace1 Peter 3:9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate

with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it.

1 Peter 3:11 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

Prayer is not magic: Incantations to manipulate spirits.

God Is a PERSON With a WILL

2 Timothy 3:12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Acts 14:22 "Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God."

God Is a PERSON With a WILLYet God Does Answer PrayerThe night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was

sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up.

"Quick, get up!" he said, and the chains fell off Peter's wrists. Then the angel said to him, "Put on your clothes and sandals." And Peter did so. "Wrap your cloak around you and follow me," the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision.

God Is a PERSON With a WILLYet God Does Answer PrayerThey passed the first and second guards and came to the iron

gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him. Then Peter came to himself and said, "Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Herod's clutches and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating”

When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer the door. When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, "Peter is at the door!" "You're out of your mind," they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, "It must be his angel."

Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. "Tell James and the brothers about this," he said, and then he left for another place.

1. Trusting in God“But the righteous man shall live by faith." Rom. 1:17

James 5:17-18  Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months.  Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.

But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1:5-8)
