The Klamath BasinIn addition to being the Pacifi c Northwest’s most prolifi c trophy trout fi shery, southern Oregon’s greater Klamath
basin may also be its best kept secret. From May through October anglers can fi sh the meandering, spring creek-like Wood and Williamson Rivers, the ultra rich shallows of Klamath Lake, and the aggressive boulder strewn reaches of the upper Klamath canyon — all home to substantial, wild trout. The region offers easy access to Crater Lake National Park and a wide range of accommodations from rustic ranch stays to a full service resort with golf, spa, as-sorted ecotours, and horseback riding.
Lonesome DuckThe key to the Williamson River’s giant trout lies in the hyper-trophic shallows of Klamath Lake where wild rainbows can grow to 20 inches in three years. As the lake warms, these rainbows migrate into the cold fl owing tributaries, the most notable of which is the Williamson. A river of many moods, the Williamson requires the visiting angler to utilize every trick in the book and the rewards are worth it. Some days the catch exceeds 20 inches and fi sh upwards of 12 pounds are possible. Lonesome Duck offers three attractive log homes with full kitchens, complimentary boats, 1.5 miles of private bank access and a pool of the river’s fi nest guides at their fi ngertips. For groups that like their own space and preparing their own meals, this is the ideal hub.Rate: Call for details.
Yamsi RanchNearly 100 years ago the Hyde family homesteaded a remarkable piece of land where Oregon’s renowned upper Williamson River bubbles up from the ground. The Hydes offer the visiting angler a truly western ex-perience. Widely recognized for their skills as ranchers, anglers, and stewards of the environment, the Hydes provide their guests rustic accommodations, access to seven miles of a cold, clear fl owing spring creek, a large prolifi c private lake, and a chance at landing wild trout that can top the magical 30 inch mark. While primarily a wild rainbow fi shery, the Yamsi is also home to the
largest river-born brook trout in the West. For anglers who relish solitude, independence on the water and the challenge of low gradient spring creek style fi shing, the Yamsi Ranch is a treasure. While most packages are lightly guided, fully guided packages are also available. Three day minimum stay requested. Rate: $1,125 per person for a 3 night/3 day package with 1 day guided fi shing.
Roe OutfittersLocated six miles south of Klamath Falls, Roe Outfi t-ters offers a full service fl y shop, as well as the region’s broadest range of guided fi shing trips and waterfowl hunts. Whether you are interested in guided fl oat trips on the Williamson or Wood, small stream walk and wade dry fl y fi shing, or stalking trophy fi sh on Klamath Lake, Roe Outfi tters can make it happen. Roe Outfi t-ters offers exclusive fl oat trip access to the remarkable and rugged upper Klamath River canyon in Oregon. This rough and tumble section of river has avoided press for many years but has been a coveted personal playground for the staff of Fly Water Travel. Due to the treacherous nature of the wade fi shing, we never envisioned it as a guidable venue until Roe Outfi tters’ skillful utilization of self bailing rafts. With a relatively short spring and fall season, don’t delay in being one of the fi rst outsiders to enjoy the West’s most exciting trophy rainbow system.

The RogueAshland & the Upper RogueLocated a mere 45 minutes from the prime summer steelhead waters of the upper Rogue, Ashland provides a charming, civilized hub for fi shing the upper Rogue. Prime summer steelhead fi shing extends from August through November and can be incredibly productive for anglers of all skill levels. With many fi ne restaurants, the renowned Shakespeare Festival, elegant accommo-dations and shopping, Ashland has become a popular fall destination for couples. This is truly one of the only places in the world where you can put in a full day on the river, enjoy a gourmet meal in town, and then polish off the evening with a Shakespeare play. Rate: Day fl oats average $400 per day
Wild & Scenic Rogue FloatsThis is the classic 50-mile fl oat trip through Oregon’s most famous designated “Wild and Scenic” river.
The heart of the state’s best “half-pounder” fi shing, anglers of all skill levels can enjoy excellent fi shing from September through mid-November. Rife with whitewater, stunning scenery, wildlife, and great fi shing, the “Wild and Scenic” Rogue is one of the West’s truly classic trips. Guiding provided by Rogue Canyon Outfi tters with accommodations at three distinct lodges along the way.

Morrison’s LodgeThis is the region’s oldest and most established full service fi shing lodge. While the Deschutes is open year-round, steel-

As California’s top system for
adult fly caught steelhead,
the Trinity is a remarkable river
that means many things to many
people. There are countless ways to fi sh the Trinity
and multiple reaches still rarely seen by the majority of
visiting anglers. Due to the sheer number of fi sh, the up-
per river is rightly considered the system’s bread basket.
This section of the Trinity fi shes exceedingly well from
mid-October through January. Numerous day fl oats
produce high catch rates for nymph fi shermen making
it the most popular venue for visiting anglers.
For those keen on swinging fl ies and/or perfecting
spey fi shing techniques, the Trinity also has a great

It was scarcely more than an ex-
periment. One fateful day in late
1883, Malcolm Ross’ wife Forrest
knelt along the bank of the upper
Tongariro and released a small bucket of fi ngerlings.
Back then, no one even fantasized that these tiny
Sonoma Creek steelhead would produce one of the
world’s most prolifi c rainbow fi sheries.
Today the Lake Taupo fi shery is estimated to hold
over one million fi sh averaging four pounds. And more
remarkably, its prime tributary, the Tongariro, hosts 70
percent of the system’s annual spawning migration. It
is no coincidence that legendary New Zealand outfi tter
and angler Tony Hayes built his lodge on the banks of
this remarkable system.

guides in every corner of the globe. Needless to say, we are very fortunate to sell the trips we sell. When representing these trips to you we strive to be honest to a fault. This means setting realistic expectations by not dwelling on the heroic or epic days that all destinations can produce, but rather elaborating on what the average angler might encounter on an average week. It also means a frank discussion of the risks and uncertainties that all fishing trips entail. For our business to survive, we care deeply that our clients travel and fish but we have little invested in where specifically they choose to fish. In the end, our sole objective is to sell each of you the right trip for you. This past year has been interesting and challenging for all of us. At Fly Water we spent a bit less on promotion and spent more time on the phone with our friends and customers. We learned a lot about our clients, our industry, and ourselves and due to the strength of our relationships and a touch of luck we enjoyed another year of solid growth. For this good fortune we can knock on wood (and often do) but in the end it is more appropriate to thank those who have entrusted us with their cherished fishing time. So to all of you who have made this dream of ours come true, we thank you and hope to continue helping you discover and enjoy the many wonders of the angling world.

When we started Fly Water Travel eleven years ago, our financial goals were modest, our business
principles were lofty and our mission was clear. We wrote our first mission statement on a napkin over beers in the back of a rental van on New Zealand’s South Island. It was simple, straightforward and from the heart, and while we have since lost the napkin, the message still rings clear for us each and every day. Our goal was to become the most trusted and respected source of fly fishing travel advice in the industry. The measure of our success was equally clear and would be based on the degree to which we enjoyed meaningful, trust based relationships with our customers and vendors. Looking back over the past decade, we could not be more pleased with the quality of the relationships we have built. The fact of the matter is that the entire Fly Water Travel venture has enabled us to meet, befriend, and serve the most interesting cross section of people imaginable. Our client base consists of the brightest, most successful and interesting people we know. Although there are many of you we have yet to meet face-to-face, our shared passion for fly fishing travel and all that surrounds it has enabled us to develop real and lasting friendships. Likewise, we have created and maintained relationships with a remarkable cast of lodge owners, outfitters, and

In addition, FSC has established a chain-of-custody certification process through which wood and fiber are tracked from their original point of harvest through the manufacturing process. Independent, third-party certifiers accredit landowners as well as companies that manufacture or trade in FSC-certified products making the most stringent certification available in today’s marketplace.
