Hand, Foot and Mouth disease Recently we have had three known cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) in our school. I wanted to give parents some information so that we can do our best to help stop the spread of infection. What is Hand, Foot and Mouth disease (HFMD)? Hand, Foot and Mouth disease is caused by a viral infection, meaning that antibiotics will not work. HFMD is characterised by fever, headache, sore throat, fatigue, irritability, and loss of appetite. A few days later, painful blisters/lesions may occur to the tongue, mouth, gums, or the inside of the cheeks. The lesions begin as small red spots that can blister and become ulcers. A skin rash may then develop, which is usually located on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. Hello Students, parents and staff of Keiraville PS Community.

My name is Colin Green and I will take on the role as School Chaplain for the duration of the year. The School Chaplain role is non-denominational, and instead is a pastoral care position aimed towards supporting the well-being of students and staff. My time will be split over two days a week where I’ll be present in classrooms, in the playground and/ or at alternative school events. Any member of the school community should feel free to come and introduce themselves and/ or have a chat about anything, at any time during the school day. Alternatively, if you feel that a child in your care would benefit from time with the chaplain, I’d be happy to make an opportunity.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Colin

Teachers Are Learners Too! Over the past fortnight, Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 teachers have continued their ongoing L3 training. Last week, teachers K-6 have spent half a day in their Stage Teams working on assessment and planning. This initiative is happening twice each term to provide all teachers with opportunities to collaborate and learn together. Mrs Veitch continued her ongoing L3 training. Wednesday 2nd May- Mr Hailstone and Mrs Matthes attended Evaluation Essentials training. Thursday 3rd May- Mrs Matthes attended the North Wollongong Principals network meeting.

KPS on Facebook!

Recently, our school started a Facebook page and each family has been given a permission to publish note. The Facebook page is intended to be used as a place where parents can find up-to-date information about what's happening around the school and to showcase and celebrate the success of our students. It is important that parents read the permission note carefully and return the note to the school as soon as possible. I would like to start to post some of the great photos we have taken recently at our school events and I can only do this after I have checked each family's permission to publish preferences.

If you have any concerns or questions about our Facebook page please come and see me. In the meantime why not 'like' our page and have a look at the wonderful things that have been happening around our school.

27.4.17 Anzac Day Anzac Day is when we remember the people who went to war. Anzac Day is special in our family because we had relatives in the war. To me, Anzac Day means men and women who sacrificed their lives for us. When people died in the war they put headstones where they lay. On Anzac Day soldiers march around in circles. Anzac Day is a very special day. At the footy I saw people marching and heard the ‘Last Post’. By Kai 2MC
