“Truly God is my rock and my salva on; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2
Recently I watched the movie, The Big Short which is a movie based upon the true events and actual people involved in the bank collapse of 2007‐08 and all the turmoil that resulted. If you haven’t seen it, just be warned that if you watch it there is some, let’s just say, “rough” parts with a fair amount of cussing and things that might be very offensive. That aside, the movie is pre y accurate and intriguing about the events of those mes, and the complete unwillingness of those in power to realize that there was soon to be an economic collapse unparalleled since the Great Depression. The wri ng was clearly on the wall and yet no one in power wanted to do anything about it. A er watching the movie, I realized, you can’t bank on the bank! It got me wondering about what we put our faith in and where our security is. Many of us do our due diligence to take care of our families, set aside resources so that when we are not able to work we can s ll be self‐suppor ng, and yet with all the things we do, there is no guarantee that these efforts will “pay off.” It is completely possible that what we have known for so many years and put our trust in, these things may not be de‐pendable or hold true as we move into the future. What can we put our trust in? What will stay secure, no ma er what? The Psalmist says, “Truly God is my rock and my salva on; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2

Another Psalm says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in mes of trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.” Psalm 46:1‐2. Though everything around us may fall apart, God is the Rock that never fails… never falls apart. As we move into the future, as we consider this next elec on, as we observe the difficult and troubling events that come on the news, may we stay confident in God’s plan and God’s promises. May we also look for opportuni es in the midst of these troubling mes to be light in a dark world. I recently challenged us all to take the month of October and join other Chris ans in the Pray31 experience. Each day in October, we will all take me to pray for our na on, our leaders and our world that God would bring about His purposes and that we could be a part of it. If you didn’t get a prayer guide, you can check it out at www.pray31.com. When we see sadness, let us also think about the opportuni es to share love and God’s light. When we see hur ng people, let us let God’s love flow into those trouble places. We are His ambassadors, we are His people, we are called to go beyond the comfortable and into the trouble to be His witnesses. God is our Rock, God is our Fortress, in the words of Mar n Luther’s famous, A Mighty Fortress is our God he writes, “Were they to take our house, goods, honor, child or spouse, though life be wretched away, they cannot win the day, the Kingdom’s ours forever!” You can bank on it! Blessings, P. Mark

We continue to need dona‐tions of new cotton/cotton polyester and fleece fabric, as well as new or gently used cotton or cotton/polyester flat sheets with no stains or spots (twin, double, queen or king size).

Fall Stewardship Report The Fall of 2016 is already upon us so the church needs to start making plans for 2017. The Council and staff have done a good job at controlling expenses so we hope to have a balanced fiscal opera on for 2016. We had a good stable year in all departments, including our Preschool. This has been a first for our Preschool for many years. If I was to describe our year in a word it would be "maintained." Maintaining is good, but we all know that just main‐taining leads to a dying church. We need to make plans and chang‐es to address our changing society, maturing congrega on and aging facili es. For example, the state of California has mandated an increase in minimum wage and Exempt staff requirements. This has the great poten al of increasing our payroll significantly as we examine how we compensate our staff. The Council is also review‐ing a list of needed maintenance projects that add up to more than $150,000. The Council's largest concern is our aging congrega on and the need to a ract young families. This will require changes that may involve increased funding. The Council and staff have tak-en on these challenges with an a tude of what would Christ want us to do? With the Holy Spirit’s guidance we know only good will come out of the needed changes. Sunday, November 13th is Consecra on Sunday, which kicks off our 2017 Offering Pledge program. Our hope is that everyone in our church will take the me to look at their 2017 finan‐cial challenges and ask what would Christ do? Budge ng, and pray‐ing for the Spirit's guidance should be a part of making annual finan‐cial plans. The Council hopes that you will make God a priority and make His work at our church part of your budget. By making an annual pledge to our church you are making God's work a priority in your life. It's important to make a pledge because we all know the road paved by good inten ons o en lead to nowhere. Pledging will also help you to stay true to your budget plan. Lastly, on behalf of the Council I would like to thank you for your past gi s for the work of the church. These gi s have allowed us to meet our current needs so we can now look to the future.

CHRIST THE KING MISSIONS COMMITTEE
October Missions Highlight
Africa is a diverse con nent, which can be divided into three major parts, with corresponding requests for prayer:
1. The Islamic North, where the church is persecuted: Pray for resilience and courage in the face of opposi on and pressure. 2. Urban Africa, where there is increasing development, young professionals, and Western influence: Pray that God would keep the young, growing church’s focus on Jesus and his mission, rather than Western materialis c exports. 3. Rural Africa, where there is poverty and lack of basic ameni es (like running water, electricity, and ease of communica on): Pray that the church will not end up in syncre sm, but embrace the gospel in all its purity, not as a covering for false religion.

Thank you to CTK for all your support in cash and dona ons for the Marine Care Package Drive! We were able to mail 44 boxes that were packed with all kinds of treats for our wonderful Marines!! Here is what Major Travis Pa erson wrote to Lynn Sheffer about receiving the care packages.
Our boxes included a li le bit of everything that they requested. Each box had a note from Pastor Mark, a small Bible, homemade hats and scarves, books, magazines, homemade treats, candy, cookies, trail mix, nuts, granola bars, sunglasses, ba eries, laundry soap, sani zer, beef jerky, coffee, kool‐aid mixes, movies, x‐box games, etc. All of your dona ons were really appreciated. We used the cash to buy more of the items and to pay the $16.75 per box for postage. Thank you!! Thank you!! Lance & Stephanie Berl
"Thank you so very much for the packages, we just got back from the ship today a er three weeks living in tents on the beach in the UAE. I'm not sure when they got here but they were all wai ng for us when we got back. All 44 arrived and have been spread through‐out the shops to all the Marines.
