Everyone knows that the world lies on the back of agreat turtle who keeps if from running into the stars.KingWell, this ball. It stick through it... I believe!Prince ChulalongkornYou believe. Sometimes I think that people not so bad!But not matter what I thinkI must go on living life.As leader of my kingdom I must go forth,Be father to my children and husband to each wifeEtcetera, etcetera, and so forth. If my Lord in Heaven Buddha, show the way,Everyday I try to live another day.If my Lord in Heaven Buddha, show the way,Everyday I do my best for one-more day![Spoken]But...Is a puzzlement!12.School Song AllWe work and workFrom week to weekAt the Royal Bangkok AcademyAnd English words are all we speakAt the Royal Bangkok...[Anna interrupts then starts them over]From week to weekAt the Royal Bangkok AcademyAnd English wordsAre all we speakAt the Royal Bangkok AcademyIf we pay attention to our teacherAnd obey her every rule,We'll be grateful forThose golden yearsAt our dear old school. The Royal Bangkok Academy,Our dear old school.13.Getting to Know You AnnaIt's a very ancient saying,But a true and honest thought,That if you become a teacher,By your pupils you'll be taught. As a teacher I've been learning(You'll forgive me if I boast)And I've now become an expert,On the subject I like most...[Spoken]Getting to know you![Children Giggle][Sung]Getting to know you, getting to know all about you.Getting to like you, getting to hope you like me.Getting to know you, putting it my way,But nicely,You are precisely,My cup of tea.[Children Giggle]Getting to know you,Getting to feel free and easyWhen I am with you,Getting to know what to sayHaven't you noticedSuddenly I'm bright and breezyBecause of all the beautiful and newThings I'm learning about youDaybyday. All [Except Children]Getting to know you,Getting to know all about you.Getting to like you,Getting to hope you like me.Getting to know you, Putting it my way, but nicely,You are precisely,AnnaMy cup of tea. All[including children]Getting to know you,Getting to feel free and easyWhen I am with you,Getting to know what to sayHaven't you noticedSuddenly I'm bright and breezyBecause of all the beautiful and newThings I'm learning about youDaybyday.ChildrenGetting to know you,Getting to feel free and easyWhen I am with you,Getting to know what to sayHaven't you noticedSuddenly I'm bright and breezyBecause of all the beautiful and newThings I'm learning about youDaybyday.AnnaGetting to know you,Getting to feel free and easyWhen I am with you,Getting to know what to sayHaven't you noticedSuddenly I'm bright and breezyAnna and ChildrenBecause of all the beautiful and newThings I'm learning about youDaybyday.14.Garden Scene Lun ThaI am Lun Tha. AnnaYour servant! Your servant!Indeed I'm not you servant(Although you give me less than servant's pay)I'm a free and independent employe...employee.Because I'm a womanYou think, like ev'ry womanI have to be a slave or concubine-You conceited, self-indulgent libertine!...libertineHow I wish I called him that! Right to his face! Libertine! And while we're on the subject, sire,There are certain goings on around this placeThat I wish to tell you I do not admire:I do not like polygamyOr even moderate bigamy(I realizeThat in your eyesThat clearly makes a prig o' me)But I am from a civilized land called WalesWhere men like you are locked in county gaols (jails)! In your pursuit of pleasure, youHave mistresses who treasure you(They have no kenof other menBeside whom they can measure you)A flock of sheep and you're the only ram-No wonder you're the wonder of Siam![Spoken]I'm rather glad I didn't say that... not with the women rightthere...and the children[Goes back to singing]The children, the children,I'll not forget the children,No matter where I go I'll always seeThose little faces looking up at me...At first, when I started to teach,They were shy and remained out of reach,But lately I've thoughtOne or two have been caughtBy a word I have saidOr a sentence I've readAnd I've heard an occasional questionThat implied, at least, a suggestionThat the work I've been trying to doWas beginning to show with a few...That Prince ChulalongkornIs very like his father. He's stubborn-but inquisitive and smart...I must leave this place before they break my heartI must leave this place before they break my heart!Goodness! I had no idea it was so late.Your majesty,Shall It tell you what I think of you? You're spoiled! You're a conscientious workerBut your spoiled.Giving credit where it's dueThere is much I like in youBut it's also very trueThat your spoiled!Everybody's always bowingTo the KingEverybody has to grovelTo the King.By your Buddha you are blessedBy your ladies you're caressed,But the one who loves you best is the King. All that bowing and kow-towingTo remind you of your royalty,I find a most disgusting exhibition.I wouldn't ask a Siamese catTo demonstrate his loyaltyBy taking this ridiculous positionHow would you like it if you were a manPlaying the part of a toad.Crawling around on your elbows and knees.Eating the dust of the road!...Toads! Toads! All of your people are toads!Yes, Your Majesty; No, Your Majesty.Tell us how low to go, Your Majesty;Make some more decrees, Your Majesty,Don't let us up off out knees, Your Majesty.Give us a kick, if you please Your MajestyGive us a kick, if you would, Your Majesty-Oh, That was good, Your Majesty!18.Something Wonderful ThiangThis is a man who thinks with his heart,His heart is not always wise. This is a man who stumbles and falls,But this is a man who tries. This is a man you'll forgive and forgive,And help protect, as long as you live...He will not always sayWhat you would have him say,But now and then he'll doSomething Wonderful. He has a thousand dreamsThat won't come true,You know that he believes in themAnd that's enough for you. You'll always go along,Defend him where he's wrongAnd tell him, when he's strongHe is WonderfulHe'll always need your loveAnd so he'll get your love-A man who needs your loveCan be Wonderful.ThiangShe'll always go alongDefend him when he's wrongAnd tell him when he's strongHe is wonderful. He'll always need her loveAnd so he'll get her loveA man who needs your loveCan be wonderful.19.Temple Scene The Orchestra[Instrumental]The King will give a grand dinner party for the visiting BritishDiplomats. Anna[Sung]We've just been introduced,I do not know you well,But when the music startedSomething drew me to your side.So many men and girls,Are in each others arms-It made me think we might beSimilarly occupied.Shall we dance? On a bright cloud of music shall we fly?Shall we dance?Shall we then say "Goodnight and mean "Goodbye"?Or perchance,When the last little star has left the sky,Shall we still be togetherWith are arms around each otherAnd shall you be my new romance? On the clear understandingThat this kind of thing can happen,Shall we dance?Shall we dance? Shall we Dance?[Dialog]AnnaMm mm mm...Mm mm mm...KingWhy'd you stop? You dance pretty , go on, go on, go on!AnnaOh your Majesty I didn't realize, after all I'm not a Dancing girl...In England no woman would dance while aMan is looking at her...KingBut you will dance with strange men, holding hands, etcetera.
