DEDUCTION OF AGENCY FEES

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 48 (2) of the

Labour Relations Act (No. 14 of 2007), the Cabinet Secretary for

Labour, Social Security and Services makes the following order:

(a) That every employer who employs more than five (5) members

of Kenya Glass Workers Union:

(i) Deduct every month the sum of 2% (two per cent) with a

maximum of KSh. 500 (five hundred shillings) from the

wages of every employee who is a member of the union

payable by crossed cheque to Kenya Glass Workers

Union–Bank Account No. 0350298772797 at Equity

Bank–KNUT House Branch, Nairobi.

(ii) In addition of (a) (i) above, to deduct every month the

sum of KSh. 100 (one hundred shillings) from each

employee payable by crossed cheque to Central

Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), Bank Account

Avenue Branch, P.O. Box 48400, Nairobi.

(b) To pay within ten (10) days from the date of deductions the

within one (1) month of making the payments.

one (1) month of making the payments to the trade union and

that organization.

The proponent (Kenya Red Cross Society) proposes to introduce irrigation farming in a 50 acre farm; improved beekeeping; and poultry farming in Basuba Location, Kiunga Divisiion, Lamu East District, Lamu County.

The following are the anticipated impacts and mitigation measures thereto:

Abstract water for irrigation from Mangai River as per the prescribed WRMA permit rates.

Harvest surface runoff from the site and channel to storage reservoirs

Use water conservatively.

Provide and enforce application of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during farming: tillage and harrowing.

Maintain a fully stocked First Aid Kit on site for insect stings and anti venom for snake bites.

Restrict access to the farming site; chain link wire to be erected around the site.

Ensure pesticides are kept securely.

Used pesticide containers should be disposed as per safety recommendations.

Wildlife menace Ensure chain fencing of farm and regular guarding of farm from wildlife.

Solid waste management Ensure no plastic litter in the farmland.

No un-decomposed manure should be in contact with workers.

Ensure the farm has adequate latrines for farm workers.

Conflict resolution Ensure there is local mechanism of conflict resolution from local resource use.

Auditing, monitoring and reporting

Ensure annual environmental audits are done for regular monitoring.

The Proponent (Portofino Properties Limited) is proposing to construct on a three acre plot; a total of 43 high-rise residential units in

six (6) blocks, parking area on the ground floor, and a sewage

treatment plant on Plot L.R. No. 1870/11/251 and 1870/11/162 off General Mathenge Road in Westlands, in Nairobi County.

The following are the anticipated impacts and proposed mitigation

measures:

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO SUBSCRIBERS TO THE KENYA GAZETTE

THE following notes are for the guidance of persons submitting “copy” for

inclusion in the Kenya Gazette, Supplement, etc.:

(1) The Kenya Gazette contains Notices of a general nature which do not

affect legislation. They are, therefore, submitted to the Government

Printer directly.

(2) Legislative Supplement contains Rules and Regulations which are

issued by the Central Government. Because of this, they must be

submitted to the Government Printer through the office of the

Attorney-General.

(3) Bill Supplement contains Bills which are for introduction in the

National Assembly.

(4) Act Supplement contains Acts passed by the National Assembly.

All “copy” submitted for publication should be prepared on one side of an

A4 sheet no matter how small the Notice is, each page being numbered and

should be typewritten with double spacing. Copy should be clear, legible and

contain no alterations.

Particular attention should be paid to the following points:

(i) Signature must be supported by rubber-stamping or typing the name

of the signatory in capital letters.

(ii) Dates must be correct and filled in where necessary.

(iii) Care should be taken to ensure that all headings to Notices and

references to legislation are up to date and conform with the Revised

Edition of the Laws of Kenya.

Kenya Gazette

“D 34. (1) Communications for the Kenya Gazette should reach the

Government Printer not later than 9 a.m. on Friday of the week before

publication is desired. The Government Printer will not publish communications

received after that hour until the next subsequent issue of the Gazette.

(2) Ministries will be required to pay for the Kenya Gazette and to meet the

cost of advertising in it.

It is emphasized that these notes are for guidance only, but it is requested

that persons submitting copy for publication first satisfy themselves that such
