HOW TO USE THE IXTHYS LETTER

1. Check the IXTHYS Market Direction Indicator™ (MDI) and Market Commentary sections so you

know what kind of market we are currently in. Any change in the MDI signal between monthly

updates will be emailed to subscribers.

2. Read the instructions given with The IXTHYS Portfolio™ which are based on the current MDI

signal. Adjust your current holdings accordingly. If you are new to The IXTHYS Letter, consider

buying one or more of the holdings in The IXTHYS Letter as directed (those with a “Buy” rating).

Consider adding to any IXTHYS Portfolio companies you already own that have a “buy” rating and

selling any that have a “Sell” rating. Note that we hold up to 18 positions in The IXTHYS

Portfolio™, depending on market conditions, so determine your position size on this basis.

STOCK OF THE MONTH: TAL Education Group (NYSE: TAL)

Industry: Technology (Cloud, Software) for Education

Market Cap: $14.1B

Dividend: none

Position Type: Growth - China

Business Profile: TAL Education Group has traded publically in the US market for over 6 years. The company was

founded in 2003 and services the educational needs of over 18 million Chinese K-12 students through tutoring programs,

test-prep, software for schools, cloud-based document sharing programs. The company owns a dozen brands and has an

active R&D program which seeks to recruit the best and brightest entrprenuers to its team. It is ranked as one of the

fastest growing brands in China and has a strategic partnership with Alibaba (BABA).

Fundamental Analysis: The company is profitable, although like most growth plays shares trade at a high PE (114x

eps). The PEG ratio is a low 1.93, however, owing to a 5 year average eps growth rate of 33.4% with projected growth in

2018 at 72%. Sales are growing at 43% per year, and 68% last quarter. The company has manageable debt, a solid 10%

profit margin, and analysts are generally favorable. The stock is a regular fixture in the IBD Top 50 stocks list.

Technical Analysis: The stock has undergone a number of splits since becoming publicly traded. Shares traded at a

split adjusted price of $5 per share for most of 2014 and 2015 while China’s growth rates were in contraction. In late 2015

the stock began a 2-year rally that has seen price rise over 500%. The stock got whacked in October when it beat revenue

estimates but came short of eps estimates by a penny. This is clearly an overreaction and provides us with a lower risk

entry for this play on China’s growth.
