I am thrilled to be here! I

bought a house in Somers

and we are excited to start a

memories with all of you!

Pastry Chef Extravaganza!

We had The Ivy’s very first cooking demonstration last month with our cook, Mara. She showed us how to make red velvet cupcakes with delicious frosting and

blueberries. This red, white and blue sweet treat was a perfect way for us to show our patriotism and celebrate

the 4th of July holiday.

While we watched the cupcakes being made, we enjoyed hearing about Mara ’s background as a pastry

chef at a restaurant owned by the well known food network star, Bobby Flay.

He sure would be proud at how beautifully she decorated those yummy cupcakes!

Out and About the Town We Go!

On Thursday, July 26th, We loaded up

the Ivy van for our very first outing. Of

course the destination was for a creamy

delicious ice cream cone at Kloter Farms

and a ride through the town.

Going out for ice cream is never a hard sell to us resi-

dents. Helen, Marlene, Virginia and even Virginia’s

daughter Sue Ann, along with RCA’s, Dacia and

Fayannie, and directors Carrie and Lorelei all climbed

aboard the bus with Pattie at the wheel anxious for the cool treat. The favorite

flavors that day were chocolate chip, and good old fashion chocolate.

Although a rain storm rolled in, we didn’t let that ruin our ride. We took a tour

through lots of corn fields and tobacco fields around the neighborhood. When

we returned home, Helen turned to the driver when she

was getting off the vehicle and stated, “what a nice ride

and you are such a good driver”.

We can’t wait to see where our next adventure takes us!

“Crafty Corner”

Each week, we gather in our activity room for our crafty corner

club and get creative with a project of choice. At the end of July, we

decided to help out the creatures of the sky and build and paint bird

houses to put in our courtyard here at the Ivy at Ellington.

First, we assembled the houses carefully. We had a lot of laughs

trying to figure out which piece went where, but with the help from RCA’s,

Cassandra, Dacia and Lynn and our Activity Director, Lorelei; we were able

to finally assemble them. The next step was hands down our favorite part

of the project. We were able to chose our favorite colors and paint the bird

houses any way we wanted too. Marlene M. chose to paint her bird house

white and green. She hoped that it would attract some bluebirds, which

she stated were her favorite. Helen H. and Shirley B. decided to choose

their favorite colors to paint the houses. Helen’s was a mix of different

blues and Shirley’s was red with black trim. All of the bird houses turned

out beautiful!

We may have ended up with paint all over our hands and on the

table cloth as well, but we sure did have a lot of fun and created memories

with new friends. We can not wait for our next project at our crafty corner

club!
