Advanced Measures: (Stage 2) Proposal

Stage 2 is an advancement on SEAI Better Energy Homes Scheme U Values are based on Building Regulations 2011

Stage 2 Measures Upgrade Standards Roof U-Value 0.13 W/m2K Flat roof 0.20 Wm2K Wall U-Value 0.21 W/m2K Windows U-Value 1.3 W/m2K Doors (PVC) 2 W/m2K

Space heat generator efficiency Heat pump: 380% min air, 400% ground

Water heat generator efficiency Heat pump: 380% min air, 400% ground

Plus Solar thermal (4m2 to 6m2) 40% contribution of total energy (10% electric immersion)

Heating controls Full zone control Cylinder Insulation 50mm, spray foam Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation 80% minimum efficiency

National Energy Efficiency Action Plan 2009 - 2020

Ø  20% reduction in energy use by 2020

Ø  20% national target = 32,000 GWh

Ø  I million building upgrades across residential, commercial & public sector to achieve 8,000 GWh savings

Ø Residential sector savings to be achieved via higher standards for new building, retrofitting older building stock, efficient boiler standards, green technologies and smart metering etc

Summary: 1.  EPC database is strongly influenced by refurbished buildings so

be careful in drawing conclusions from EPC database 2.  The EPC scores of refurbished buildings correspond to TABULA

refurbishment steps 3.  The TABULA brochures will contribute posi.vely to na.onal

retrofit programmes

So do typology results & studies contribute to Retrofit Programmes?

Ø  The response from Irish homeowners, building energy experts and the retrofit industry to the typology brochures has been enthusiastic

Ø  There is significant demand to expand & refine the Irish typology as the National Retrofit progamme develops out to 2020

Ø Draft of new Code of Practice (COP) for Retrofitting of Dwellings will issue from the Department of Environment in March 2012. Three building types from the Irish TABULA project are included in the COP.
