Inexpensive Ways to Honor Your Spouse This Valentine’s Day

www.crosswalk.com

Expressing love doesn't require

large sums of money -- just a little

planning. Do you need some ide-

as to make this Valentine's Day

one to remember? Here are a

few affordable ideas:

Create a photo postcard of

the two of you. On the back, write a thank you for that special

memory and an invitation out to another romantic activity

Recreate your first date. If they still fit, wear the same

clothes. If not, at least go to the same places.

Create a mail box for love notes: place it in your bathroom,

on the kitchen table, etc and exchange love mail. A traditional

mailbox is nice because it has a red flag you can put up to

signal, "You've go mail!"

"Kidnap" your spouse from work or other responsibility —

like in the middle of mowing the lawn — blind fold them and take

him/her to a romantic rendezvous. (You might clear this with the

boss or show up at the end of the work day — just don't get your

spouse fired — that would definitely ruin the mood).

Have dinner someplace different in your home: in front

of the fireplace, on the rooftop, on the patio or balcony out back,

in the attic, under the tree in the back yard, etc.

February 11 from 1-3 p.m.

Upcoming Lenten Studies By Sheryl Meadows

The Lenten season will soon be upon us and we will have a seven session study on “The God We Can Know”, which will explore the “I Am” sayings of Jesus. It’s a brand new study, which will help us to learn more about Jesus’ self-revealing “I Am” statements, as well as give us direc-tion for our purpose as followers of Christ.

If we want to grow in the likeness of Christ, we must take time to study and reflect of Jesus’ characteristics. Each week the video will take us to the Holy Land location where the “I Am” sayings of Jesus actually were spoken. The gospel will come to life

as we move from the Judean wilderness to the Galilean hills and into the heart of Jerusalem. Again, it will be potluck, after church services, and ending on Palm Sunday, March 29th and all are welcome.

Baptism—Sunday Feb. 22nd

Please contact Pastor Gordon if you would like to learn

more about baptism.

Christian Perspective of Valentine’s Day The first Valentine was posted around 1806. Almost one billion Valentine's Day cards are sent each year.

The history is somewhat murky as to how Valentine's

Day has come to be what we now know and celebrate. Saint Valentine served in third-century Rome. Emperor Claudius decided that single men made better soldiers. Therefore, Claudius banned soldiers from being married. One version of the story is that Valentine continued to perform the weddings of young soldiers who were in love, and Claudius had Valentine imprisoned. While imprisoned, Valentine reportedly fell in love with the jailer's daughter. Valentine sent her a card and signed it, "Love, your Valentine." Another version is that Valentine defied Claudius by helping Christians escape the torture of the Romans. Valentine died in approximately A.D. 270. Others claim the church may have decided to celebrate in mid February to "Christianize" the pagan Roman celebration Lupercalia.

Have you been wondering how you might get more

involved in our church?

Idea #1: We need 1-3 people who can dedicate a few hours each week to come to our church and clean the walls, polish the pews, wash the windows, etc. It would be GREAT to have our own crew to tackle the extra chores. Idea #2: We could REALLY use a handyman or handywoman who can come to our church 1 morning or afternoon/week. There are always things to repair, items to paint, little tasks that require a screwdriver, hammer and elbow grease. Idea #3: Our church needs friendly hosts who will greet people who come to our facility. Imagine serving some lemonade to some Head Start parents, or welcoming the families who are bringing their boy or girl Scouts. Idea #4: We need someone who has a computer, who can go online and sort through the 100’s of photos of our Rese-da church. You’ll need help figuring out all the names and dates, but the end result will be such a blessing. Idea #4: Call Pastor Gordon and arrange to visit people in our congregation who are shut-in. We need 2-3 people who would be willing to support this ministry.
