PENITENTIAL ACT
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done
and in what I have failed to do,
(and striking their breast, they say)
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
FIRST READING Genesis 11:1-9 (Vigil); Acts of the Apostles 2:1-11 (Day)
RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 104 Cantor, then All: Alstott
SECOND READING Romans 8:22-27 (Vigil); 1 Corinthians 12:3b-7, 12-13 (Day)
SEQUENCE VENI SANCTE SPIRITUS
Come, O Holy Spirit, come! And from your celestial home shed a ray of light divine! Come, O Father of the poor! Come, source of all our store! Come, within our bosoms shine! You, of comforters the best; You, the soul’s most welcome guest; Sweet refreshment here below; In our labor, rest most sweet; grateful coolness in the heat; solace in the midst of woe. O most blessed Light divine, shine within these hearts of yours, and our inmost being fill! Where you are not, we have naught, nothing good in deed or thought, nothing free from taint of ill. Heal our wounds, our strength renew; on our dryness pour your dew; wash the stains of guilt away; bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill; guide the steps that go astray. On the faithful, who adore and confess you, evermore in your sevenfold gift descend; give them virtue’s sure reward; give them your salvation, Lord; give them joys that never end. Amen. Alleluia.
ALLELUIA Chant, Mode VI
GOSPEL & HOMILY John 7:37-39 (Vigil); John 20:19-23 (Day)
CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
(all bow through “and became man”) and by the Holy Spirit
was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge
the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic
and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism
for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

The Solemnity of Pentecost is one of my favorite celebrations of the liturgical year. The mystery of this feast is the culmination of many months of observing the penitential season of Lent, the Sacred Triduum, and the season of Easter. The “fruit” of these mysteries is found in the birth of the Church at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Apostles.
I suppose that I love this feast because I love the Church. The same Holy Spirit that inspired our first bishops – the Apostles – continues to inspire, protect, and guard the Church today. That is our divine guarantee that the
jaws of hell will never prevail against the Catholic Church founded by Jesus Christ and born in the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. As I have indicated before, if ours were a purely human institution, we would have ceased to exist long ago!
We are blessed this Pentecost weekend to witness the celebration of Confirmation and First Eucharist for 20 of our children. At the 11:00 a.m. Mass, Bishop Daly will call down the Holy Spirit upon these young people and complete their full initiation into the Catholic Church. We pray that this celebration for our children will be just the beginning of a life of fulfillment and joy guided by the Holy Spirit.
The traditional 12 gifts of the Holy Spirit are indications that we are responding to the power of the Spirit in our daily lives. These gifts are: charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, and chastity. Our task is cooperate with the Holy Spirit so that these gifts are made manifest in our daily lives. May our children be able to witness these gifts within us and thus see us as models for Christian living.
Asking for the prayers of Our Lady of Lourdes, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Darrin Connall Rector
One miracle of Pentecost was that, despite their diversity, each listener heard God’s word in his or her own language. The meaning for stewardship is that, by sharing the gifts poured out on us by the Holy Spirit, we will be empowered to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters, whatever they may be.

Scriptural Reflection May 15, 2016 — Pentecost Sunday — Mass During the Day
Acts 2: 1-11; Ps 104: 1, 24, 29-31, 34; 1 Cor 12: 3B-7, 12-13; Jn: 20: 19-23
Today is the Solemnity of Pentecost. One of the most ancient feasts of the Church, Pentecost is mentioned and explained in both the Acts of the Apostles (today’s First Reading) and in St. Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians. The name comes quite simply from the Greek word, Pentekoste, which meant “the 50th day” as Pentecost is 50 days after Easter Sunday (counting Easter).
Pentecost is often called the “birthday of the Church” as it was on this day — with the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and about 120 followers of Christ, including our Blessed Mother Mary and other men and women — that Christ’s mission on earth is completed.
However, that mission continues with us. We, too, have received the power of the Holy Spirit through Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist,
and other sacraments. It is this Holy Spirit that allows us to be the Lord’s Disciples actively working in today’s Church and today’s society. Nevertheless, we must accept and recognize that fact.
In a homily given on Pentecost Sunday 20 years ago Pope St. John Paul II said, “In the Acts of the Apostles, St. Luke describes the extraordinary manifestation of the Holy Spirit. This divine gift is light and power, light to proclaim the Gospel truth and power to infuse each of us with the courage of witnessing to the faith.” Living out this call is the essence of stewardship.
Congratulations and welcome to our newest members in baptism:
