here" $raffic through this gate is the lightest of Altdorf0s three as there is no proper road passing beyond the city %alls" &ost arrials come by rier boat and enter the city ia its harbour" -cribes and e*cisemen are accompanied by &arines from theRier Patrol so that they can go about their business registering ne%ly arried ships, recording passengers, assessing cargo and leyingta*es" Generally the 3ocks are a busy place so it is relatiely easy for the undistinguished to slip through the cracks" !n contrast,anyone (say, so4called adenturer types) %earing armour and carrying %eapons other than a hand %eapon and dagger %ould mostlikely not be able to slip through" Armour and prohibited %eapons are confiscated here as they are at the gates" 5%ners of such canretriee their possessions once they leae the !mperial capital" 

(e'tern Di'trict' of Altdorf  

O%erei# )*pper Rei#+ Di'trict $he 5bereik district is an affluent residential district situated on the high ground along the northern end of the %estern bank of theRier Reik" &any minor nobles from across the 'mpire, including those %ho hae achieed substantial success as merchants, maketheir homes here" -ome of the ambassadors to the !mperial ourt hae also found the 5bereik district to their liking" 

6aron Frederich on Reichenhall, minor noble from Auers%ald and financier, makes his home in the splendid Reichenhall an'ion-./" $he 6aron is ambitious and his constantly searching for %ays to improe his status and e*pand his po%er" He is one of therichest men in the 'mpire, a patron of the arts and has great influence at the !mperial ourt" -till, the 6aron is drien" 5ne of hisgoals is get his daughter 'lise, a i*en in her o%n right, married into one of the ruling noble houses" -ome think that the 6aron maynot be aboe using e*tortion or some other underhanded means to accomplish this goal"

1ala't )1alace+ Di'trict $he area to the %est and south of !mperial Palace constitutes the richest district in Altdorf" &any of the 'lectors maintain theirAltdorf residence in this district %here their serants and retainers can also perform duties as their master0s or mistress0 spies" $hemore important ministries hae their offices as close to the 'mperor as possible" The Imperial 1alace )2ai'erliche 1ala't+ -3/ is the most dominant structure in Altdorf and residence to His !mperial &a;esty andProtector of -igmar0s 'mpire, 'mperor 7arl4Fran1 ! on Hols%ig4-chliestein" Within the Palace is the 4ol#'halle -3a/, the assemblyhall %here the 'lectors gather to conduct the business of the 'mpire %heneer the need for such a gathering arises, %hich is fairlyrare" &ost of the time, the .olkshalle is used by the Prime 'states to carefully study all !mperial edicts, determine the impact on therespectie proinces, and issue a recommendation to their respectie 'lector" For more details about the Prime 'states, referto 5hadow' over B6$enhafen (Hogshead ersion), page +<" $he 7eldenplat -a/ is situated at the northern end of the Palace near the border of the 5bereik and Palast districts" $he -igmar&onument, a great case bron1e statue of the patron god and founder of the 'mpire, dominates the s:uare" $he 2ai'erplat -%/ stands at the opposite end of the Palace comple*" $he grounds here are generally used %heneer the 'mperor

 battlefield" 5n the opposite side of the enormous edifice housing the !mperial Guard 6arracks, the Imperial Chancellery )2ai'erliche'

Amt'%eir# )Civic Di'trict+ $he Amtsbe1irk runs along %est bank of Reik from the 5bereik 3istrict and north of the 'mperor0s 6ridge to the $hree $oll6ridge" A large number of goernmental ministries and other bodies hae their offices in this district" A number of influential noblesalso make their residence among the fe% enclaes of to%nhouses found in this district" 

Tower 1ri'on )5chuldturm+ -=/ is one of seeral prisons in Altdorf and generally houses those %ho are debt4ridden, but %ell4connected enough to ensure that they hae some comforts during their incarceration" -uch considerations are rather costly and may, inthe end, put off the ineitable" $hose prisoners %ho can no longer arrange to pay for their stay in this prison may find themselestransferred to &undsen 7eep (see belo%)"

$he &mperor 2arl>?ran Brid$e -c/ is the northernmost of the Altdorf bridges on the Reik and connects Amtsbe1irk to the#niersity district" Heads of those e*ecuted for treason decorate the bridge as a %arning to others of like mind" $he %ell4guarded and fortified building east of the !mperial Palace is the Bitterhof -@/, the residence of the 'mperor0s current 2ordhamberlain, the old and still po%erful Graf 5tto on 6itternach" 7no%n as the !ron Graf, on 6itternach is the 'mperor0s chief

diplomat and a member of the ouncil of -tate" According to rumours he has a %hole net of spies across $he 'mpire going by thename the -chattenaugen (-hado% 'yes) %hose chief task is to gather BsensitieC information" !t is said that the real business of the'mpire is conducted in his offices in the !mperial Palace" &any emissaries from the other !mperial proinces and foreign lands spenda good portion of their day at the on 6itternach0s offices, the centre of !mperial diplomatic corps, pressing their respectie master0sissues and concerns" $he !udiciary 5criptorium and 5ecretarium )a$i'trat'amt+ -/ stands bet%een the !mperial ounting House and the Reik" Alllegal records concerning Reikland and !mperial matters are kept under lock and key here as are those %hose duty it is to copy the largeolumes of case la% for use by the &agistrates, their clerks, and certain license la%yers" As %ith other goernment institutions, the-ecretarium %ould rather maintain the Bold %aysC of doing things rather than using the much cheaper and more efficient printing

 presses that can be found in other parts of Altdorf" The Imperial Court' of !u'tice )2ai'erlicher 8erich'hof+ -./ are located in a large building near $hree $oll 6ridge along the banks of the Reik" $he court here is usually the site for cases inoling the obility %here the accused is ;udged by a ;ury of theirnoble peers" ourt cases that hae to do %ith charges of treason against the 'mperor or the murder (assassination) of a noble areassigned to these courts" !mperial ;ustice is said to be s%ift and many a criminal end their days in either one of the Altdorf prisons orat the business end of a gallo%s" $he latter are usually erected in either the 7aiserplat1 (see aboe) or 7Dnigplat1 (see belo%)" $rialsthat concern commoners and their petty grieances against a noble are first tried at the Altdorf ourthouse (see belo%) %here manyare dismissed for lack of BproperC eidence" $he fie -upreme &agistrates of Altdorf hae their offices %ithin the !mperial

Domplat )Cathedral+ Di'trict

 $he 3omplat1 encompasses the area surrounding athedral of -igmar" &ost of the priesthood hae their residences in thisneighbourhood in order to be as close to the internal politics of the cult as possible" $he 8reat Cathedral of 5i$mar -.0/ is the largest temple in the 'mpire" !ts octagonal shape is typical of -igmarite temples, %itheach side representing the united eight tribes at the time of the Goblin Wars and the founding of the 'mpire" $he Grand $heogonistmakes his home %ithin the temple as does the 2ector of Altdorf" $here are a number of cells beneath the temple %here lessermembers of the clergy lie" $he Great 2ibrary of the athedral is located in a massie underground ault, inaccessible to all but thehighest echelon of the cult and their authorised agents" -erices are held daily and the athedral remains open for the piousthroughout the day and night"

 $he Chapter 7ou'e of the Order of the ?iery 7eart )Tempel 7au'+ -.3/ stands to the north of the athedral and is the residenceand hall of -igmar0s 7nights" $he Grandmaster generally only spends si* months in Altdorf and the rest of the year at the 5rder0sFischadler astle on the outskirts of the !mperial apital" $ypically, there are no more than + knights in Altdorf along %ith the5rder0s men4at4arms and support staff" Tempel'tra''e -f/ runs from $hree $oll 6ridge around the southern end of the athedral to the $empleplat1 (see belo%) and7aiserplat1 (see aboe)" !t is one of the busier streets on this side of the Reik" 

$o the southeast of the athedral stands Tempel$arten -$/, a place of tran:uillity for those %ho find such among the trees and plants" Within the park is the 1rie't’' Re't -.:/, a taern fre:uented by the -igmarite clergy" A small shrine to $aal and Rhya on thesouth side of the taern is maintained by those %ho honour the t%o gods" $here is a belief that the park is all that remains of anancient roe sacred to $aal" $he area around the shrine is said to be haunted by a young %oman %hose ghost appears ;ust before therising of the Altdorf fog" -ome rumours hae it that she %as an innocent burnt at the stake by 1ealous %itch4hunters during the

5ne of the smallest districts in the city, the Reiksmarkt is nestled on the %est bank of the Reik bet%een 3omplat1 and -Ederichdistricts" $he district is also the site of the Rei#mar#t -h/, the largest market in Altdorf %est of the Reik, near the terminus ofthe 5i$mar Brid$e -i/" &any of the ste%ards of the noble households purchase the ma;ority of their masters0 proisions at theReikmarkt" 2ocated on the bank of the Reik, the Cele'tial Colle$e -./ is one of the oddest and tallest structures in the city" !ts tall, thin dome4topped to%ers rise up into Altdorf0s skyline before they branch into many smaller to%ers" Rumours abound that should $aal get tiredof the offensie structure, he might gie Altdorf one good shake ;ust to see the college come tumbling do%n" For more information onthe elestial ollege, see Realm' of 5orcery, pages ?4>"

 $he Imperial Opera 7ou'e -0/ is largest building in the district and has been recently renoated" $he opera is a relatiely ne%arrial to Altdorf" !t %as introduced from $ilea by %ay of uln during the last years of 'mperor 2uitpold0s reign" $he building0s ne%construction reflects the importance its %ealthy patrons place on their personal entertainment" Performances are :uite e*pensie,%hich increases the appeal of attending as the prices keep the lo%4born (and lo% incomed) people out"

 $he 5berhausen district is one of southern districts on the %est bank and stretches from the Reikmarkt in the east to the %est %all" !t borders the 3omplat1 in the north and the smaller -Ederich to the south" &any affluent families, including a number of non4noble

goernment officials, hae to%nhouses in this district" $he Templeplat (atch 5tation -0./ is the main 6arracks of the Altdorf Watch and located in the %estern section of the 5berhausenoerlooking the Templeplat -E/" $his is %here the Watch &arshal has his office and %hat passes as the elite Watch is :uartered %hennot on patrol pushing around the less %ell4off and licking the boots of their superiors" People accused of serious or capital crimes areheld here until arrangements for their stay at one of the Altdorf prisons can be finali1ed" $he 'lite Watch escorts the cart carryingthese alleged criminals to their more permanent imprisonment" $he Temple of orr -00/ is the centre of %orship for the God of the 3ead in Altdorf" $he ;et4black building contains dormitories,cells, and a refectory for the noices, acolytes and priests in addition to a temple, a chapel, and $emple Father 7nock0s apartments, all

of %hich are built around a central cloister" $he clergy mainly consists of initiates training to become priests in Reikland and theneighbouring proinces" 6urials of the rich and the mighty take place from here, %hile all the rest are buried directly from the chapels,usually the one in &orr $o%n further east" 

$he Colle$e of 7eraldry -03/ has recently been relocated to more spacious :uarters from its old, dilapidated site ;ust a fe% streetsa%ay" 7laus on Rotterfach, noble and former !mperial Herald, is a stern master %ho brooks no interference from officials in othergoernmental ministries" $he records contained herein are impeccably maintained and no one is allo%ed to peruse these other than6aron on Rotterfach or one of his more senior (and trusted) assistants" Anyone %ho %ishes information must hae the appropriateauthorisations or a great deal of gold cro%ns" -hould they lack either, the petitioner %ill be turned a%ay"

 The Imperial -0:/ is considered one of the higher class hostelries and is often used by the entourage of the northern Proincial'lectors %heneer their master personally attends the !mperial ourt" $he Royal Con'ervatory )7of 2on'ervatorium+ -0;/ is located near the approach to -igmar 6ridge" -ome of the younger childrenof the city0s elite attend this school of music %here they learn from some of the 'mpire0s must gifted masters" Performances are heldonce a %eek to help pay the instructors0 %ages" Admission is priced so that only the elite can afford to attend"

 ordland as both see #lthuan as little more than interlopers in their region" When not at official functions re:uiring his attendance,Ambassador $ymalier 'skeladel is usually found %ithin the embassy" $here are times %hen the High 'lf emissary departs %ithseeral #lthuan guards through the south gate to %ander in the nearby forest in order to escape the stench of the !mperial capital andits uncouth human inhabitants" 

5Fderich $he -Ederich is the southernmost district on the Westside and rials the Reikmarkt in si1e" -ome affluent merchants and scholars,mostly middle4class, make their residence in the fe% to%nhouses that can be found in this district"

 $he ar#etplat -#/ is another of the many markets in Altdorf and specialises in the selling of fish" -erants from the households onthis side of the Reik %ould rather come to this market rather than brae the other such market in the 3ocks area (see belo%)" $he Physicians0 Guild has gien its guildhall the rather lofty name of the Colle$ium edicinae -0=/" As e*pected, the Guild takesfull responsibility to train %ould4be applicants in order to ensure the :uality and character of those admitted" !n other %ords, the Guild%ill ensure that any they take in %ill place the %elfare of the Guild and its leaders aboe all else and, secondarily, ensuring that they%ill sere their %ealthy clientele to the best of their abilities" haracters %ho %ish to apply to the ollegium &edicinae had bettermake sure that their references are impeccable and funding secured"

 $he largest building in the -Ederich is 8rau'tein 2eep -0@/, %hich is used as a prison housing those accused or conicted of serious(though not capital) crimes" -ome of those %ho leae after sering their time are broken men %ho refuse to speak of their e*periencesas a prisoner in the keep"
