Dear Friends, During “Respect Life Month” it is important to remember the many types of support that pro-life peo-ple provide (e.g., Birthright). Respecting the sanctity and dignity of human life is more than preventing the destruction of innocent human life. For example, the “Abortion Healing Ministry” helps people find hope, healing, forgiveness and peace for those who have been involved in abortion. In the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Project Rachel, Project Joseph and Rachel's Vineyard are open to women, men and couples. All inquiries and information are kept confidential. For more information call/text 314-406-0815 or email [email protected]. Immacolata’s Dinner Auction “Sunset Safari” is Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Hilton Frontenac. This party, held every other year, is always a fun, exciting event, and an important source of funds for our parish and school. The Dinner Auction is a great example of parish spirit; it helps continue the 76-year old legacy on which Immacolata parish is based. Save the date, and make plans to attend. Thank you! We hear the word “evangelization” a lot. What exactly does evangelization mean? Perhaps the best answer is Jesus’ own words: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20) This is one example of where Jesus Himself gave all of us, clergy and laity alike, the mission to spread the “Good News” of Jesus Christ; (evangelization is from the Greek word for good news; gospel is an old English word for good news). Immacolata’s parish mission statement succinctly indicates evangelization: “To bring people together in Jesus Christ.” Like all mission statements, it expresses the reason for having a parish community, and the ultimate reason for all of our many activities, e.g., Mass, worship, school, education, charitable works, sports—so peo-ple can truly experience that Jesus is with us. Jesus Himself is the Good News, and was in fact the first evangelizer. He said “I must proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God; that is what I was sent to do.” (Luke 4:43) In 1975 Pope Paul VI wrote the following in “On Evangelization in the Modern World”: “Evangelizing is the Church’s deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ’s sacrifice in the Mass.” As more people in recent years have left the practice of the Faith (Catholic, and Protestant as well), our duty to evangelize has become ever more urgent. Many have never experienced the joyful, personal, spiritual life of union with Christ. As all the recent Popes have taught, we first must “evangelize ourselves,” i.e., develop a personal conversion from sin to grace, allowing a more fervent practice of our life in Christ. Then we do what we can to invite others to experience the life of Christ which comes to us through the Church and the Sacraments. Although many have left organized religion, there are also at the same time many signs of increased religious fervor among various groups. Let us all pray that more people will respond to the action of the Holy Spirit in the work of spreading the Gospel of Christ. May we all do what we can to invite others to active participation in the life of Christ. Msgr. Vernon Gardin

ANNUAL “TURKEY TOSS & TROT”

Every year, parishioners and school families gather to “toss” turkeys and trot. Please bring a donation of a frozen turkey (or cash dona-tion). Make sure to wear your gloves. We form a fireman’s bucket brigade style line to “toss” the turkeys into the food pantry trucks. After we toss the turkeys, the kids and adults line up for a trot around the Immacolata grounds.

Looking for a way to make a difference during this

pandemic? Become a member of the

Sandwich Brigade.

As a parish we have been making sandwiches every Sunday for over 12

years, what an amazing legacy!

COVID19 has changed the way we operate but not OUR MISSION, and we need your help to keep

this ministry alive…….

We are looking for families to make sandwiches, either at home or

in the Immacolata kitchen, we also need volunteers to shop

for the supplies and volunteers to deliver the sandwiches to

St. Vincent de Paul Parish.

Immacolata has made a commitment to St. Vincent’s to provide

sandwiches, chips and drinks as part of their lunch ministry, feeding hundreds each day.

The cost of our commitment is

approximately $200.00 per week, all of which comes from the generous donations made by

Immacolata parishioners.

The gratitude of those receiving our help is hard to put into words.

If you are interested in being a part of this very important ministry,

please click on the link to the Signup Genius after clicking

on the StVdP button on our website.
