ASSEMBLY PRESIDENT

WOW!!!This is my first article for the Illinois

Odd Fellow! As I am writing this let-ter, I feel so blessed to be your new Assembly President.

I would like to thank everyone for all the support I have received on this journey.

The Installation ceremony was such a beautiful and moving evening. I would like to thank the Installing Officers and those that helped in any way to make the evening so special. It was so special for me to have my son, Bryan Adams, come all the way from California to be my escort and for helping with all the reception set-up. It was also great to have my mom, Gail Byers PP, and many friends present to help me make this evening a success. This is an evening I will never forget. I would like to thank Audrey and Allen Jones, PP, PGM, and members of my lodge, Juanita RL #477 for their faith in me to follow this journey! I would like all of us to work together to keep get-ting new members for our Order.

I would also like to thank Donna Grable, PP and Jim Bott, PGM for all their support these last 2 years. They are the best and have both helped me so much, especially with shopping!!

The Program I have chosen for this year is: GOING BACK TO BASICS

We had two well beloved per-sons retired this year Joann Coers, Secretary and Allen Jones from IOOF Management Board and Odd Fellow-Rebekah Housing Board. Allen was on these Boards for 33 years. We will miss them very much.

Please keep all IOOF and Rebekah Charities in your mind this year. They all need your help.

This year I will be collecting can tabs, that will be to St. Jude's in Memphis, TN.

NEWS FROM THE HOMEHello from the home,

Well once again, we are approaching the Holiday Season! Wow how did this happen so fast. We can't believe it's already November! Time really does fly when you're having fun! We had such a great turnout for our Community Trick or Treat! We are so thankful to be able to do this every year for our commu-nity and our residents.

We will be having our annual Thanksgiving Feast for our residents and their families on November 14. It's so nice to have everyone together before the busy holidays. Residents and staff look forward to this celebra-tion not only for the food, but also the good company!

We will be preparing for all the fun activities we have to kick off the holiday season! We are planning a craft and bake sale to raise money for the activity department. These items are made by staff, residents and res-ident families. The event will be in December.

Until next month- take care and be well.

TIME LINE FOR ARTICLES TO BE IN THE PAPER

I was asked at Session to write an article so everyone knows exactly how the Newsletter works.

First of all my Email is [email protected]. Please do not send it to any of the other emails because it may get missed. I only want one place to look for articles when I am working on the paper. If it comes to another email. I try to for-ward it to this email and then I delete it. So if it doesn’t flow over correctly it is lost.

Here is the Schedule of how I work on the Newsletter.October 10 November NewsletterNovember 10 December NewsletterDecember 10 January NewsletterJanuary 10 February NewsletterFebruary 10 March NewsletterMarch 10 April NewsletterApril 10 May NewsletterMay 10 June NewsletterJune 10 July NewsletterJuly 10 August NewsletterAugust 10 September NewsletterSeptember 10 October Newsletter

Most people expect if they send something in October, for it to be in the October paper. That is not true. I work a month in advance.

In October I am working on the November Newsletter. So my deadline for November is October 10th.

Sometimes if I don’t have enough to go in the paper that month then I will use articles that are time sensitive to put in even if it is after the deadline but that is not the norm and rarely happens.

If I don’t have enough articles for the newsletter I will hit Facebook and look for some pictures to put in the paper or if I know a lodge is doing something I will go to there facebook page to get stuff to put in the paper. I have had some lodges upset with me for doing that and the next month they worked on an article for the paper and find it appeared in the paper already. For that I am sorry. I do print the article and if they chose different pictures I will put them in.

However do not count on me to put your articles in the paper. I am far to busy to try to do that.

Most of the stuff that comes in after the 10th of the month will be held for the next issue.

If you are planning something for the Month of October I should have it by September 10th and I will put in September so people can plan to attend, if I have room or I can hold over to October and reprint if possible.

I would love to have lots of articles for the paper. I can increase the size of the paper but that means I need enough articles or pictures to cover 4 pages.

I have heard that only certain lodges are put in the paper, not true. I don’t have any favorites. However if an article is sent in and it will be over before the paper comes out some-times if I have a lot for the month it may not make the cut if I have something that is coming up and I need the space.

Things like Jewel or Membership Pins presentations or regular news articles I have had them several months in the rear and I still put them in. Just general news articles announcing presentations or lodge news I put in anytime.

But Activities that your lodge is hosting or Fundraisers I like to put in the newsletter at least a month in advance so hopefully you will have more attend your fundraiser and make it more profitable for all the lodges.

If you have any questions please let me know you can reach me at 217-735-2561 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.

GRAND LODGE HIGHLIGHTSGrand Lodge Session, this year was another successful year.

We had a lot of fun with a couple of silent auctions during ses-sion. We auctioned off old jewels that had been returned and jewelry, and some of the 200th Anniversary License plates. We made $441 dollars on the Jewelry, and we made $600 on the License Plate Auction. It was a lot of fun.

We had four of our Fifty year members there. Allen Jones with 71 years, Hugo Block with 67 years, Terry Barrett with 50 years, and Niles Reamer with 50 years, for a total of 238 years of service.

We also honored Allen Jones, PGM as he retired from the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Housing Inc and IOOF Management with 33 year’s service to these boards. We also honored George Paul for his years of service on the Finance Committee which he resigned from, he was appointed in 1998 for 21 years of service that is dedication to our order. Our Sovereign Grand Lodge Representative Terry Barrett Sovereign Grand Secretary honored George Paul with a Medallion Award for his years of service to the Grand Lodge. George also served on many other committees over the year. Terry Barrett Sovereign Grand Secretary also honored Janis Klockenga with a Medallion Award for stepping up and taking on more responsibility as she stepped into the shoes of Joann Coers who was Office Secretary for Grand Lodge for I believe she said something like 22 or 23 years.

We also honored John and Ruth Mrizek by draping the charter of the Grand Lodge, in a ceremony with the Rebekah Assembly present. Then we also dedicated this year’s Journal in memory of John Mrizek, PGM who served the Grand Lodge in many positions over the years including Grand Master 1975-1976, Assistant Secretary for many years, and on Several other committees throughout the years.

Grand Lodge is not just a boring meeting. It is meeting and catching up with friends that you may only see once a year. It is taking care of the business of the State. It is honoring our members for their Service, and also creating new friendships as we welcome more brothers and sisters to our session each year. Your Representatives are also responsible to elect the future leaders of this great order. I personally have been coming to our Grand Lodge session for many years, and the stories I could tell of Jimmie Braun, George Rendek, Bob & Darlene Wick, Mat Yingling. The parties after session are more fun than the sessions and you get to know so many people. Everyone is wel-come even if it is your first time coming to grand lodge.
