Chad Morris, SMU Head CoachSMU Football

TODAY’S PROGRAM

Chad Morris was named the Head Football Coach at SMU on Dec. 1, 2014. Morris arrived on the Hilltop after five seasons as an offensive coordinator on the collegiate level and 16 seasons as a Texas high school coach.

For the previous four seasons, Morris has served as Offen-sive Coordinator at Clemson, helping the Tigers to a 41-11 record, the 2011 ACC Championship and four bowl berths, including two BCS Orange Bowl appearances. For his work, Morris was named AFCA National Assistant Coach of the Year and one of five final-ists for National Offensive Coordinator of the Year by 247Sports .com in 2013, and the National Offensive Coordinator of the Year by Rivals.com in 2011.

Morris went to Clemson after one season as Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/ Quarterbacks Coach at Tulsa. After his arrival, Tulsa improved from 5-7 in 2009 to 10-3 in 2010, averaging 41.4 points per game.

COMMITTEE TIME

Prior to his stint at TU, Morris served as a head coach on the Texas prep level for 16 years, coaching at Eustace Independent School District (1994-97), Elysian Field ISD (1998-99), Bay City ISD (2000-02), Stephenville ISD (2004-07) and Lake Travis ISD (2008-09). Morris is a legend in the state after posting a 169-38 record overall and winning back-to-back undefeated state cham-pionships in his final two seasons. Morris took six of his teams to Texas State Championship Games, with three of those capturing state titles, and earned Coach of the Year honors 11 times.

In his last two years in the prep ranks, Morris led Lake Travis High School to back-to-back undefeated 16-0 seasons as well as two Class 4A State Championships.

Morris earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics with a minor in statistics from Texas A&M University in 1992.

Born Dec. 4, 1968, the Dallas, Texas native and his wife, Paula, have two children, daughter Mackenzie and son Chandler.

Shawn Foster announced the Marketplace advertiser of the week. John Gilchrist, the new Membership Chair, asked that we make a special effort to bring guests over the next three weeks

PP Jim Mills thank-ed everyone who had a part in the parade, and especially thanked our parade sponsor and part-ners, as well as the chairs of the various parade committees. He said that he had gotten no-thing but positive feedback. This is the thir-teenth parade RCPC has been in charge of.

Janie Loveless introduced our speak-er today, Pete Delkus, Chief Meteorologist of WFAA. He began by saying that the only thing that effects everyone watching the nightly news is the weather. He usually gets three minutes and fifteen seconds to give the

The first was why there had been so much rain, His response was that it was due to El Niño, which is a warming of the equatorial re-gions of the Pacific Ocean. It could last for a year or two and the extra heat causes a shift in the global weather patterns. We saw three or four times as much rain as usual. It was the most rain for the time period in a hundred years. He said that it is usual for the weather to change, and that meteorologically he does not believe in global warming, that is a political idea. He said he does believe in weather changes, and that Texas is an area of ex-tremes in weather. He also predicted a cooler and wetter winter than normal, also due to El Niño. The next question concerned careers for meteorologists. He talked about meeting combat meteorologists who fly in with the troops so they can forecast the best times for the planes to come in. They have access to Department of Defense information which helps them make accurate forecasts; their information includes weather information from military bases around the world, which is not available to civilian meteorologists. Meteorol-ogists also are employed by companies build-ing power plants to predict whether tempera-tures in the future will be warmer or cooler. He was asked about the polar ice caps. He said that there is a pattern, when one shrinks, the other grows. He was asked what has improv-ed the accuracy of forecasts. He said that computers had improved the accuracy of forecasts ten days into the future.
