Shine this Christmas your skin care With late nights, parties and dietary indulgences at their peak this time of year, its easy to slip a little on your normal skin care routine. Our team got together to share their favourite tips for a healthy luminous skin this Christmas.

• Remember to cleanse, cleanse and cleanse again! For a healthy skin the biggest tip is never sleep with un-cleansed skin. This can cause irritation and blockages like clogged pores and blackheads. Before you decide to sleep with make up on, think about your make up and how it transfers to your pillow - not so healthy! Practice the Dermalogica daily double cleanse. Try Precleanse as your first cleanse. This lightweight Olive and Apricot Kernel-based cleansing oil, fortified with Kukui Nut, Borage Seed and Rice Bran oils, gently melts sebum and oil-based debris from the skin's surface. Its so easy to use and effective for the entire face including the eye area. Follow with your Dermalogica choice of cleanser.

your skin care • Hydrate and freshen your skin by spritzing. Help keep your skin

rehydrated by spritzing throughout the day or to freshen your skin from the office to the party. Use Dermalogica’s Multi Active Toner, Ultracalming Mist or the Age Smart Antioxidant Hydramist. Also available in travel size, they are the perfect addition for your handbag.

• Time pressured? Boost your skin care by utilising the time you spend on your daily routine or use multi tasking products. Exfoliation and masking go hand in hand and together produce great skin results. If you are time pressed and are thinking of skipping this part of routine, why not apply during your normal daily tasks? Apply before a task like wrapping presents, Christmas cooking or preparing your home for guests! Try the ever popular Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant and follow with a mask like the Charcoal Rescue Masque which is great for tired and lacklustre skin. For a vitamin boost use the AGE Smart MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque which is jam packed with ACE vitamins and antioxidants to enhance the barrier properties of your skin. You can also apply a sheer layer of this mask and leave on over night for a real skin pick me up. Multi task it and try a “power cleanse” by mixing Daily Microfoliant with your cleanser for a fast and effective clean. Or use Dermalogica’s Daily Resurfacer which resurfaces, smooths and brightens while evening skin tone to improve all-over skin clarity. Sheer Tint Moisture spf20 is another great triple tasking product as it provides moisturising hydration, a tinted colour and a spf20 all in one.

your make up

We all want perfect make up that can take us from the office to the party. Primers are one way to get that great smooth canvas and lasting finish. Dermalogica have a choice of three primers to choose from. Each Dermalogica primer not only helps to provide the skin with a polished make up finish but ensures the health of the skin too. Dermalogica primers can be used over your moisturiser for a flawless looking skin or under make up for a smooth canvas.

• AGE Smart Skin Perfect Primer: Perfect for a more mature skin, it helps to give the skin a luminous look with its velvety silicones that create an instantly smooth surface. Neutral tint helps balance tone and enhance luminosity and radiance.

• Ultracalming Redness Relief Primer: This soothing primer helps to counteract skin redness and balance skin tone. Tinted with natural green botanical extracts, the velvety silicones smooth the skin and strengthen barrier protection while physical sunscreen shields the skin from UV rays.

• Hydrablur Primer: This lightweight non-greasy primer minimises the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, mattifies against oily shine and imparts a silky, luminous finish to skin.

For a luminous dewy fish, we love Dermalogica’s new Phyto Replenish Oil that can be applied underneath your make up or mixed in with your foundation for an unsurpassed fresh and dewy look.

Alternatively, Daily Resurfacer is a great product to apply under your moisturiser before you apply foundation. It provides a polished and smooth look to your make up that make up artists swear by.

All you need now is some neutral eye make up and a great festive season red lipstick to finish your holiday look!

your relaxation zone Tired party skin? Then try the DIY dewy skin massage… Give your skin a self massage which has been designed by the International Dermal Institute in conjunction with Dermalogica. It’s perfect for a tired party skin to awaken and firm.

Follow these specifically designed techniques by using Dermalogica’s Phyto Replenish Oil to give your skin a hydrated and luminous toned look. Ease forehead creases: Place fingertips together in the middle of the forehead and, with elbows out, press firmly. Glide (fingers together!) with slight pressure toward temples, press and release. Relaxes tension held in the forehead. Repeat 3 times. Puffy eyes: Especially great after a long flight, or a long night! Using your index or middle finger, press between brows—the power spot we think of as the “Third Eye”—and

stroke over brows, around the eyes, and returning to centre. Then use your fingertips to trace an “S” shape between the brows to release tension. Alternate between presses and S’s, repeat 3 times each, for a total of 6 movements. Sinus relief: Use your index or middle finger beside each nostril, press, release and slide to the divot or small hollow just under the cheekbone, and press gently. Glide toward ear (each side) and lightly press in the hollow right beside the ear. A bit of tenderness is normal as circulation boosts and detoxification takes place. Repeat 3 times. Relax your jaw: With flat fingers, beginning in centre of chin, move fingers in small circles upward along the jawline. Stop just below the ear, gently press, and lightly move fingers down the neck to help with lymphatic drainage—open your fingers toward the collarbone as you go. Repeat 3 times.

just breathe Feeling like you need just a few minutes to gather your thoughts a n d t a k e a b r e a t h e r ? T h e n , practising some deep breathing techniques may be perfect for you. By practising proper breathing techniques you can feel an increased feeling of calm and wellness. It’s also a balancing way to start or finish your day. The beneficial effects can include balanced levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood and the lowering of blood pressure as well as increased physical energy.

Find 5 - 10 minutes to yourself and practice these easy breathing techniques to calm and bring balance back into your life. Reference source: Better Health Victoria.

Lets start…

• Sit or lay comfortably and raise your ribcage to expand your chest.

• Place one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen.

• Note how your upper chest and abdomen are moving while you breathe.

• Concentrate on your breath and gently breathe in and out through the nose. Your upper chest and stomach should be still, allowing the diaphragm to work more efficiently with your abdomen rather than your chest.

• With every breath, let your tension disappear and think “relax”.

nourish The festive and holiday season is the time when we love to celebrate fantastic festive food and drink with our friends and family. It’s also a time when we can feel guilty about the extra calories we may be consuming. Personally, we think that diet is all about moderation and ensuring that you eat a varied “colourful” diet rich in fruit, vegetables, lean meats and good fats. Try to avoid processed foods and think about your portion size. The holiday season in Australia is the perfect time to make rehydrating fresh flavoured waters. Or, try some antioxidant packed smoothies which are particularly beneficial if you are on the go and tend to skip meals. Here are some of our favourite recipes which are easy to prepare and not only taste great but have added benefits for a glowing healthy skin… We hope you enjoy them!

fresh flavoured water

Ginger Spritz

Ginger has long been held as a “wonder” spice. It’s great for the digestive system, is anti-inflammatory and is known for helping with feelings of nausea.

• Steep some fresh ginger slices - about 20 - 40 grams in hot water.

• Let cool.

• Mix with sparkling water approximately 50:50 ratio, or to taste and add some fresh lemon if desired.

• If you prefer a warm tea just omit the sparkling water and add some honey or lemon for taste.

Cucumber water

Cucumber contains 95% water so its fantastic for rehydrating. Rich in vitamin B its also good for eliminating toxins.

• Use sliced cucumber and mix with water or for a spritz, simple add some sparkling water. This rehydrating drink is a great alternative to lemon water.

Lemon and mint water

Lemons are a great internal cleanser for the body and help aid digestion. Packed with vitamin C they are a good source of antioxidants.

Mint is calming and soothing, has antioxidant qualities and also helps with digestion.

• Combine 1/2 fresh lemon to one glass of water and add approximately 4 fresh mint leaves (or to taste).

get up and go smoothies

Berries are jam packed with antioxidants and are great for perfect skin! The saying goes, the darker the berry, the better. As well as having high levels of antioxidants, blueberries are known for being anti inflammatory and raspberries are also high in fibre. Cranberries are a rich source of vitamin C whilst Strawberries contain vitamins C and K. Acacia berries contain essential fatty acids and contain a good source of fibre. Choose fresh or frozen fruit and whiz them up to create a delicious antioxidant smoothie.

Our berry skin smoothie

• Blend approximately 2 cups of berries with;

• One small tub of 125g low fat or 1/2 - 2/3 cup low fat natural yoghurt.

• Approximately 1/3 cup of low fat milk.

• 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed oil, wheatgerm or chia seeds.

Options

Add some leafy greens like spinach or kale (1 cup).

If you avoid dairy, try coconut water or unsweetened apple juice instead of yoghurt and milk. Or substitute with delicious almond milk!

If you enjoy a little more sweetness, add half a teaspoon of maple syrup.

For variety, try adding a banana. High in potassium and fibre, they add a natural sweetness to your smoothie. Alternatively, choose Mango, which is high in antioxidants and very good for digestion.
