Höchste Qualität für Ihre sichere Stromversorgung
Foreword
In 1909, Mr Anton Piller created the foundations of what was
to become a highly respected name in the field of power
protection systems. Since then, the company has grown from
its roots in the manufacturing of ventilation systems, to
become the world leader in Rotary UPS systems and a major
player in frequency converters, military motors/generators and
bespoke power solutions.
Through the loyalty and dedication of our clients and
employees, our company has become synonymous with high
performance, innovative products and world class after sales
service. Right from the start, Piller has led in the field of power
quality engineering and, today, the Company can claim to
have designed and manufactured the world’s largest Diesel
UPS and low speed flywheel energy store; we also carry a
number of patents for state-of-the-art power engineering.
The remarkable story of our ongoing pursuit of excellence is
captured here, reflecting the 100 year history of the Piller
company.

About Piller
Since its formation by Anton Piller in 1909, the company Piller
has been synonymous with electrical machines of the highest
quality and reliability. Piller has always been true to that
tradition and from its headquarters in Germany and via its
regional offices, representatives and distributors worldwide
the company continues that tradition into the 21st century
producing mission-critical high performance power protection
systems and converters.
Piller is a wholly owned subsidiary of the multi-disciplined
global UK engineering group, Langley Holdings plc.

In November 2016 the group acquired the business and
assets of Texas based Active Power, a producer of kinetic
energy storage devices, and merged the business into its
Piller division.

The History of Piller

1912 - Anton Piller states: “My main ambition is the production of high quality goods by using best materials, skilled workers and first class factory equipment.”

1909
With his patent for the construction of a fan and his extensive
knowledge of the market, the engineer Anton Piller was able to
found his own factory in Hamburg.
1919
Owing to its favourable geographical location, Piller relocates
to Osterode am Harz, near Hannover, to a 9.6 hectares site.
On 1st August 1919 and initially with only 18 employees, Piller
continues to increase its production of electrically-driven fans.
1920’s-1930’s
The Piller industrial fans and other products are now well
known outside of Germany and Piller survives the economical
crises (inflation 1923 and worldwide economic crisis from
1929).
1939-1945
A second factory is built in Moringen Germany, 100km to the
south of Hannover. Both factories expanded their production
up to 1945.
1940
In 1940 Piller changes its name to Anton Piller AG, a limited
company with 100% ownership by the Piller family. This
legality makes it possible to attract investors, create new
capital and extend production facilities further.
1954
In 1954, Hans Piller, the son of founder Anton Piller, takes over
the management of the company resulting in further
development to its structure and production range.
