The Highway Mid-Term Newsletter The Highway Primary School Summer Term - Week 7 27 May 2016 Mrs Kenneth’s Message Dear Parents, It’s hard to believe we are already half-way through the Summer Term, as always very busy, and the end of the school year is fast approaching. Everyone has been working very hard but there have already been lots of lovely things happening and many more planned to take place before we finish in July. Class trips have been, and still are, in full flow this term with Year 5 starting things off with their 2 night visit to The Kingswood Centre near Ashford last month, followed by their visit to The Battle of Britain memorial. Year 3 were next with their trip to the Roald Dahl Wondercrump exhibition at The Southbank Centre last week. This week we saw Year 6 enjoy a fantastic day at Thorpe Park on Tuesday as a reward for all their hard work with their SATS (below) and on Wednesday it was the turn of Year 2 who had a lovely day exploring on the coast at Birling Gap near Eastbourne, . This term, the Reception Class’s topic is ‘People who help us’ and they have had numerous visitors, including a vet, nurse, police officer, postman and soldiers who have come in to speak to the children about their various roles. Today it was the children’s turn to pay a visit when they went along to the newly rebuilt Orpington Fire Station! Reception Class will also be having a day out at the Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve on Wednesday 8 th June and the following day, Year 1 are off to The National Gallery. The final class day out will be when Year 4 visits The Museum of London on Tuesday 28 th June. In addition, our annual trip to The Houses of Parliament for school council members, school governors and House captains is on Monday 13 th June. Of course, the biggest trip to coordinate is the much anticipated Year 6 School Journey to the Isle of Wight which is taking place the first week back after half-term. We are sure everyone will have a wonderful time! Comings and Goings Last term there were a few changes, in Year 3 particularly, where we were sorry to see Eve and Gabby leave us but welcomed Hollie, Grace and Vincent. We were pleased when Josh and Milanna joined us in January then we bid farewell to the Maryan family when they left us at Easter. Earlier this term we welcomed Eva to Year 2 and Hayley to Year 5. Today we are sad to be saying goodbye to Layla (Year 2) and Isabelle (Reception) who are moving out of the area. We wish the family good luck and much happiness in your new home and school – please keep in touch, we will miss you!

The Highway Mid-Term Newsletter The Highway Primary School Summer Term - Week 7 27 May 2016

Mrs Kenneth’s Message

Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe we are already half-way through the

Summer Term, as always very busy, and the end of the school

year is fast approaching. Everyone has been working very

hard but there have already been lots of lovely things

happening and many more planned to take place before we

finish in July.

Class trips have been, and still are, in full flow this term with

Year 5 starting things off with their 2 night visit to The

Kingswood Centre near Ashford last month, followed by their

visit to The Battle of Britain memorial. Year 3 were next with

their trip to the Roald Dahl Wondercrump exhibition at The

Southbank Centre last week. This week we saw Year 6 enjoy a

fantastic day at Thorpe Park on Tuesday as a reward for all

their hard work with their SATS (below)

and on Wednesday it was the turn of Year 2 who had a lovely

day exploring on the coast at Birling Gap near Eastbourne, .

This term, the Reception Class’s topic is ‘People who help us’

and they have had numerous visitors, including a vet, nurse,

police officer, postman and soldiers who have come in to

speak to the children about their various roles. Today it was

the children’s turn to pay a visit when they went along to the

newly rebuilt Orpington Fire Station!

Reception Class will also be having a day out at the

Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve on Wednesday 8th June and the

following day, Year 1 are off to The National Gallery. The

final class day out will be when Year 4 visits The Museum of

London on Tuesday 28th June.

In addition, our annual trip to The Houses of Parliament for

school council members, school governors and House

captains is on Monday 13th June.

Of course, the biggest trip to coordinate is the much

anticipated Year 6 School Journey to the Isle of Wight which

is taking place the first week back after half-term. We are

sure everyone will have a wonderful time!

Comings and Goings

Last term there were a few changes, in Year 3 particularly,

where we were sorry to see Eve and Gabby leave us but

welcomed Hollie, Grace and Vincent. We were pleased when

Josh and Milanna joined us in January then we bid farewell to

the Maryan family when they left us at Easter. Earlier this

term we welcomed Eva to Year 2 and Hayley to Year 5.

Today we are sad to be saying

goodbye to Layla (Year 2) and

Isabelle (Reception) who are

moving out of the area. We

wish the family good luck and

much happiness in your new

home and school – please keep

in touch, we will miss you!

Foth News

You will have noticed from the minutes of last Friday’s FOTH meeting that plans are well underway for the Summer Fair which this year is taking place after school on Friday 24th June. Our wonderful team is doing a grand job in organising lots of fun but if you are able to help in any capacity we would be very grateful. Please let either the class reps or put your name down at the School Office.

There is also a RACE NIGHT booked for Saturday 9th July which is bound to be great fun. Please see last week’s flyer or the separate email sent out this week for more details.

Of course the biggest event in the calendar is our very own 10k in September, which this year is being sponsored by Coolings. Thank you so much to everyone who is helping to put this event on again. There is still plenty of time for you to get involved and nearer the time we will be asking for marshalls. More details to follow shortly.

Wishing you all a lovely, relaxing Half-Term break and see you all again on Monday 6th June.

Mrs Kenneth
