The first and most exciting is that I took class, two in fact, from our national treasure, Jo Sonja Jansen, at the Creative Painting convention in Las Vegas. She was amazing, awesome, and inspiring. She started out with, “My precious ones… you are artists.” I think that’s something that we need to remind ourselves of every once in a while. How can you not listen to someone who says, “Listen to mom just a minute, sweet ones”? She also referred to us as “lump lumps,” “dear ones,” and “my precious lump lumps.” Her face drawing/painting tips that I want to share are these: The face is five eyes wide. The end of your nose is the size of one eye. You change the location for the horizontal plane for a child, but the face is still five eyes wide. Run with that, and re- member that you are artists! I bounced from the excitement of taking class with Jo Sonja to trying really, really hard NOT to spill the beans about our MPI teacher! In case you have been hid- ing under a rock and did not hear, our teacher was Karen Brower, from down under! We did an adorable piece with owls, that included bits of her trademark mother of pearl; so cute and fuzzy. We enjoyed her friendship, sense of humor, accent, and relaxed teaching style. She also reassured us off the microphone that she does not eat crocodile or kangaroo. Thank you, Karen Brower, for a wonderful class. Please come back and paint with us again in the future. Please also help me extend great big thanks to Jeanne Robert and her committee for creating such a wonderful event for us. The food, raffles, room decorations, goodie bags, theme, atmosphere, and name pins created an incredible experience for all who attend- ed. Those same expressions of gratitude also extend to Alice and Irene, painters who are not chapter members, yet helped out so much behind the scenes with MPI. Look ahead and sign up for the wonderful projects and teachers that we have lined up for you. Don’t forget to look at the supply listings and plan ahead. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hi Ladies,

It seems like I have a lot of things to share since our last newsletter, and I am sure many of you can say the same thing. The first and most exciting is that I took class, two in fact, from our national treasure, Jo Sonja Jansen, at the Creative Painting convention in Las Vegas. She was amazing, awesome, and inspiring. Run with that, and re-member that you are artists!

March's class for PHP was our annual Mystery Paint-In (MPI) and it was spectacular. We

had a full class and a wonderful teacher Karen Brouwer from Australia near Melbourne in the

state of Victoria, just to give you a little geography lesson. I was schooled in this by Karen's

Aussie traveling buddy Gail, about the different territories of Australia and where Karen is

from it was fascinating. Karen Brouwer is such a great teacher and so fun to listed to. I love

accents.

I sure hope you all enjoyed the class and the many wonderful Owl finds for the

day. Jeanne Robert and her committee out did themselves. Raffles were great thanks to Ra-

mona Jacobs.

The next class coming up is the Papaveri Toscana with Sandy Garcia and we still have room,

so if you want to come let me know, ASAP so I can get your prep and pattern to you.

Here is the list of signups for Sandy's class. Cynthia Megill, Sue Johnson, Silvia Espisi-

to, Charlene Butler, Candy Sciarretta, Jeanne Robert, Nina Pierson, Kenna Perrin, Renee

Molloy, Charlotte Hicks, Donna Johnson, Anita Lane, Merle Avery, Sheila Elliot, Jackie

Hegle, Sue Bond, Leslie Pilcher, Linda Camp, BJ Witz, Donna Carpenter, Pam My-

ers, Debi Stivers, Roxanne Walker, Carol Voyles, Mary Weflen

They will send you a replacement magazine & membership card in a large envelope. Many of us have done

this successfully. Leslie’s & Sue’s came today………………………….

Mystery Paint-in was an awesome success!! From our wonderful teacher from Australia, Karen

Brouwer, to the fun owl project box she designed, to all the owl decorations, the owl coin purses,

fantastic raffles pieces (we raised almost $1,000 in the raffle!) to the owl cupcakes (thanks Char-

lotte!), it was great! A HUGE thank you to the best committee ever – Sue Bond, Ramona Jacobs,

Merle Avery, Karen Ortman, Teri Hayes, Deb Lakin and Pam Myers, you made my job easy.

Thanks to those committee members who provided the food including Irene Preuss, a

friend of Sue’s, who made one of the breakfast dishes. We all heard numerous posi-

tive comments which made it all worth doing.
