XPS RANGE

Dell launches the new XPS 13, dubbed the XPS 13 2-in-1, a laptopthat doubles as a tablet. With InfinityEdge bezels, and the optionalDell Active Pen, it’s a crossover device aimed at both business andhome users. A 13.3” display and core i5 or i7 processor arepowered by a 46 watt-hour battery. The device features a fingerprintscanner for windows and the optional Dell Active Pen has 2048levels of pressure sensitivity.

Dell has opted to put two USB Type-C ports on the 2-in-1, with oneof them integrating thunderbolt 3. Dell is including a USB-A adapterin the box to provide compatibility with regular USB accessories.

DELL UPDATE LAUNCH LATITUDE 5285

Dell has launched a new hybrid PC designed to offer all the utilityand horsepower of a conventional laptop, along with the ease of useand enhanced portability of a tablet. The 5285 is already drawingcomparison with Microsoft’s Surface. Built around a 7th-gen IntelCore Processer the 5285 can be configured with various storage andoptions. The 5285 will be available on 7 February starting at $900.

DELL REVEALS FIRST VR-READY MOBILE WORKSTATION

The Dell Precision 7720 is Dell’s first VR-ready mobile workstationspecifically for VR content creation. It’s Dell’s most powerful mobileworkstation, housing the latest 7th Gen Intel Core and Intel Xeonprocessors and Nvidia Pascal Quadro professional graphics.

DELL UPDATE AND EXPAND THEIR GAMING LAPTOPS

Dell launched a range of three new PC gaming computers includinglaptops under the Alienware brand, including the world’s first 13.3”VR ready notebook, using the Nvidia GeForce 1060 and an Intel i7processor.

The other models are the Alienware 15 and 17, both run on Nvidia’s10-series GeForce graphics chips and have 15.6 and 17.3 inchdisplays respectively.

Dell also launched a gaming laptop under the Dell brand. With anNvidia GTX 1060, an Intel Core i7 processor and a 4k 15.6” screen,the Inspiron 15 7000 is a thinner, less overtly styled alternative tothe Alienware offerings.

DELL LAUNCH WORLD'S OVERALL THINNEST MONITOR

Dell’s headline monitor launch was the new 27” Ultrathin, billed asthe world’s overall thinnest monitor. The Dell 27 featuresInfinityEdge bezels and a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440. The deviceoffers up 400 nits of brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio and 6msresponse time. It covers 99% of the sRGB colour gamut and offers a178-degree wide viewing angle.

This is complemented by high dynamic range (HDR), a talking pointaround displays at CES 2017.

DELL ANNOUNCES 8K MONITOR

The Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor is the world’s first 32inch 8K resolution display. With an unprecedented 280ppi, 16 timesmore than Full HD, the display is aimed at commercial fields such asphoto and video editing, medicine and diagnostic research, and oiland gas exploration.

Dell Canvas is the world’s first horizontal smart workspace of itskind with touch, totem and pen capabilities. The 27 inch workspacecan be used at an angle or flat on a desk and powered by anyWindows 1 device. Software solutions partners include Adobe,Autodesk, AVID, Dassault Systems, SolidWorks and Microsoft.

DELL REVEALS WORLD'S FIRST WIRELESS 2-IN-1

Dell eliminate the power cord and deliver a truly wirelessexperience by incorporating WiTricity magnetic resonance wirelesscharging technology in the Latitude 7285 2-in-1 available later thisyear. With a charging mat and WiGig wireless dock, users can taketheir device away without disengaging any wires and when theyreturn the device will start charging, reconnect to the WiGig dockand start displaying content on the external display.

7 DELL PRODUCTS NAMES 2017 CES INNOVATION AWARDHONOUREES

Seven Dell products have been named 2017 CES Innovation AwardHonourees including the XPS 13, XPS 13 2-in-one (touchscreen) and27” Ultrathin Monitor.

The XPS 13 has also won a number of laptop of the year awardsfrom Wall Street Journal, WIRED, Laptop Magazine, ComputerShopper and Reviewed.com, as well as winning numerous Editor’sChoice awards from PC Mag and Digital Trends.

INTEL ANNOUNCE FINAL DETAILS AND SPECIFICATIONS FORKABY LAKE ARCHITECTURE

Kaby Lake, otherwise known as “7th-gen Core” is Intel’s latest line-up of processors. Following a new ‘Process, Architecture,Optimisation’ development cycle from Intel, the Kaby Lake promisesimprovements including a new media engine which can decode UltraHD video on-chip, providing far better battery life when decoding 4kvideo.

The Kaby Lake is also able to change clock speeds faster thanprevious generations, meaning short-burst tasks such as openingapps are quicker. They also provide improvements for graphicsrunning on Intel HD graphics, and huge improvements for Intel IrisPlus 640 and 650.

INTEL ANNOUNCE VR HEADSET

Intel showed off a Virtual Reality headset that translates a room’sfurniture into appropriate digital scenery. Intel call this ‘mergedreality’ and their headset has both computer and battery built in,eliminating the need for a connected PC.

The headset also demonstrated its other uses, with a volumetricvideo of a waterfall, allowing users to peer around objects as if theywere present at the captured scene.

Intel even gave attendees at their keynote ‘barf bags’ to poke fun ataccusations that VR can make users nauseous.

HDR DISPLAYS FINALLY MATERIALISE

HDR has been on the horizon of display technology for some time,but it was at CES 2017 that it finally materialised in the form of anumber of HDR televisions and monitors.

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and greatly expanded adisplay’s contrast and colour range, resulting in vibrant, moreaccurate colours against deeper, more accurate blacks.

Dell’s new Ultrathin 27” monitor features the technology, withsimilar offerings from LG, Sony and others announced at CES 2017pitted against it.

QUALCOMM REVEAL FIRST SNAPDRAGON 835 DEVICE:AR/VR SMART GLASSES

The glasses, called the ODG R-8, have a 40-degree field of view anda 720p HD resolution, and support Snapdragon VR SDK.

While many expected the snapdragon announcement to be asmartphone. The processor is expected to enable the developmentof lighter, smaller and sleeker devices that take advantage of the newprocessor’s superior performance and power efficiency.

FARADAY FUTURE RECEAL ELECTRIC SELF-DRIVING CARTHAT CLAIMS TO OUTPACE TESLA

Start-up Faraday Future unveiled an electric, self-driving car that canaccelerate from 0-60mph in 2.39 seconds.

Faraday say the car, dubbed the FF91, accelerates faster than anyother electric car in production. The FF91 introduced itself in a livedemo where the car drove itself around a car park and parked in anempty space.

RAZER RELEASE GAMING LAPTOP WITH THREEFOLD OUT 4K SCREENS

Razer debuted Project Valerie, a gaming laptop with three fold-out17.3 inch 4K screens.

With a GTX 1080 GPU and a native resolution of 11520x2160, thespace can be used as one display, or as three independent displaysproviding flexibility.

KINGSTON ANNOUNCE WORLD'S HIGHEST CAPACITYUSB FLASH DRIVE

Kingston Digital has introduced a 2TB usb flash drive. Named theDataTraveller Ultimate Generation Terabyte, the drive uses USB 3.1performance to allow people to store 2TB of data. That’s about 70hours of 4K video.

The drive is double the size of Kingston’s previous largest drive andcomes with a shock-resistant zinc-alloy metal casing and a 5 yearwarranty.
