Innovators of the game of basketball for decades, the world famous Harlem Globetrotters have introduced something unparalleled in the history of sports and family entertainment, taking kid participation and fun to a whole new level when the Globetrotters come to the Valley for a Friday night game in Casa Grande on Feb. 8, and a Phoenix doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 9. For the first time ever, during the Globetrotters’ 2013 “You Write the Rules” World Tour, your family’s smiles will begin before you even get to the show. Fans will decide the rules for the game that could affect the final outcome. This could be anything from playing with two basketballs

at once, to getting double the points for each basket made, to the Globetrotters’ revolutionary 4-point shot, which is an amazing 35 feet away from the basket. “Our fans are at the heart of everything we do,” says Globetrotters star Dizzy Grant, the first player in history to hit a 4-point shot, which was introduced in 2010. “Letting the fans determine some of the rules is a way to get them even more engaged and is something only the Globetrotters do.” Go online with your kids to www.harlemglobetrotters.com to vote for which rule you want to see implemented in the game. Then, get your tickets, and see the winning rules in live action. “Fans will always feel like they are a part of the action at a Globetrotters game,” says 12-year veteran Hi-Lite Bruton, who fans will likely hear throughout the game as the “ringleader” of the show. “You might be in your seat one minute, and out on the court with the player the next. We are also one of the few professional teams on the planet that set aside a few minutes after virtually every game to sign autographs, giving fans the opportunity to meet a player in person.” The popularity of women’s basketball has grown in recent years, no more evident than with one of the US Airways Center’s tenants, the Phoenix Mercury, but the Globetrotters are the only pro team known that has women playing with the guys, with three female players on this year’s roster.

“It’s humbling to be a part of such an iconic organization,” says Mighty Mitchell, one of two females in the Globetrotters’ 2013 rookie class. “I want our young female fans to know that women are strong, dedicated and ambitious. Never let anyone tell you that a task is impossible. It’s important to set high

standards for yourself, and hard work will help you achieve them.” Known worldwide as the “Ambassadors of Goodwill™,” the Globetrotters are showing further dedication to their fans with a tour-long campaign to promote breast cancer awareness, playing parts of each game with specially-designed pink Spalding basketballs and selling special pink Globetrotter wristbands to promote breast cancer awareness. 58th Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse ShowWest World, 16601 North Pima Road Scosdale, AZ 8260

February 14-24, 2013Since 1955 the Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show has set the pace

in the Arabian horse world. The first show was held at the grounds of the Arizona Biltmore Hotel which was a beautiful setting for a horse show.

The Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show was a first class show from the very first day.

After the show's beginnings at the Arizona Biltmore, Ann McCormick bought 150 acres in Scottsdale and made it into the horse facility known as Paradise Park

which served the needs of the show for many years.

Since that time, the show has been held at Westworld in Scottsdale. It has grown from 50 horses to nearly 2400 horses bringing top owners, trainers and breeders

from around the world competing for a chance at winning. A win at Scottsdale can mean big money in the breeding barns.

ACCLAIMED LIMÓN DANCE COMPANY PERFORMS

CLASSIC AND NEW WORKS

Friday, February 22, 2013, 8 p.m.Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present the celebrated Limón Dance Company on Friday, Feb. 22. Acclaimed for its dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive, yet nuanced movement, the Limón Dance Company illustrates the timelessness of José Limón’s work and vision.

José Limón (1908–1972) was a crucial figure in the development of modern dance. His powerful dancing shifted perceptions of the male dancer, while his choreography continues to bring a dramatic vision of dance to audiences around the world. Born in Mexico, Limón moved to New York City in 1928 after a year at UCLA as an art major. It was here that he saw his first dance program.

In 1946, after studying and performing for 10 years with Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman, Limón established his own company with Humphrey as artistic director. Limón’s choreographic works were quickly recognized as masterpieces and the Limón Dance Company itself became a landmark of American dance. Reviewers’ Roundtable

The following are reactions from each of AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine’s film commentators in an effort to generate a well-rounded overview of this weekend’s new releases.

‘Bullet to the Head’*

Sylvester Stallone plays a career hitman who enters into an unlikely alliance with a by-the-book detective (Sung Kang) to bring down the ruthless killer of their respective partners. Christian Slater and Jason Momoa also star. (R - 91 minutes)

*Screened after deadline.

‘Sound City’

Filmmaker David Grohl tells the story of America’s greatest unsung recording studio housing a one-of-a-kind console that attracted seminal bands and artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Neil Young, Rick Springfield, Tom Petty, Metallica, and Nirvana. (NR - 106 minutes)

Stan: Although the title refers to the studio, it’s the custom Neve 8028

Console from Studio A of the ‘Sound City Studio’ that is the real star of this documentary that contributed its signature ‘analog’ audio sound to the recording or mixing of more than 100 certified gold and platinum albums. Archival footage and photos, along with contemporary reflective interviews with legends of music, provides a compelling look at the creative process of music. The digital recording age with the help ofPro Tools, a digital audio workstation, ushered in ‘digital’ audio for editing music, film scoring, and film & television post production, leaving in its wake analog history. Looking forward to the soundtrack availability for two tunes in particular: ‘You Can’t Fix This’ – Stevie Nicks and ‘Cut Me Some Slack’ – Paul McCartney. (Grade: A-)

‘Stand Up Guys’

Al Pacino and Christopher Walken play a pair of aging con men who re-team with their old pal (Alan Arkin) for one last hurrah before one of the guys takes his last assignment - to kill his comrade. (R - 94 minutes)

Stan:Call me ‘old school’ as I thoroughly enjoyed the seasoned

veteran actors and the depth of the story that fortified the ultimate ideals of friendships. Reminded of the production ground rule from my years of working on film projects, and director Fisher Stevens use of extreme close-ups, ‘Its in the eyes when an actor conveys the heart and soul of the character’.‘Stand Up Guys’ is full of heart and a lot of soul. ‘Warm Bodies’

Nicholas Hoult plays a zombie who becomes involved with the girlfriend (Teresa Palmer) of one of his victims (Dave Franco) and discovers that their romance sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world. (PG-13 - 97 minutes)

Stan: Writer/director Jonathan Levine’s presentation of the age-old theme of the lifeless hopeless world of ‘zombies’, is indeed very clever

with a mix of terror, ‘bump scares’, and the right amount of humor, while providing a very welcomed twist to the genre of the down side of a post-apocalyptic world with a spark of life, and that the basic attribute of love as mankind’s ultimate salvation.(Grade: B)

Joseph: “Warm Bodies” is strangely romantic. And not just in the amorous zombie-boy-meets-human-girl kind of way but also in its overall outlook on the world - which is weird considering this is a post-apocalyptic motion picture, after all. Writer/director Jonathan Levine’s cinematic adaptation of author Isaac Marion’s novel is incredibly idealistic, pinpointing poetry in an otherwise extremely bleak existence. In addition to being able to jump-start viewers’ hearts, the flick also stimulates their brains and taps on their funny bones with its witty and wry sense of humor. Bella and Edward have got nothing on Julie and R. (Grade: B)

Soundbite Spotlight

The following quotes were pulled from interviews conducted by AZ Weekly Entertainment Magazine’s film columnists with talent speaking on behalf of movies recently released in theaters.

Actor Dave Franco (‘Warm Bodies’)

By Stan Robinson

“I’ haven’t had a role to this point that required me to be in totally in character for weeks at time, I don’t have any crazy stories like sleeping

out on the streets for weeks at a time, or going through intensive boxing training for an extended period of time. I did do this big action movie coming out this summer called ‘Now You See Me’, and there’s a lot of fight sequences. Rather than sitting in my chair and waiting for them to tell me to come on set and get right into the scene, I’ll be running laps around the building to get my heartbeat up. I didn’t want to fake being exhausted, so little things like that I’ll do which is nothing like what Daniel Day-Lewis for ‘Lincoln’ or Joaquin Phoenix for ‘The Master’ goes through, and I think that is the extent of my ‘Method Acting’!

“‘Warm Bodies’ kind of found me, when I first heard about the project, to be honest, I wasn’t terribly excited about it because I heard that it was ‘another zombie movie’ which we’ve seen a lot of recently. But then I heard that Jonathan Levine, the director, was attached and I’m a huge fan of his previous work, mainly ‘The Wackness’ which I had seen several times before this came about, and of course I loved ‘50/50’. I knew that he was going to bring something different to it. He is such a smart guy, and when you look at his track record, he’s always brought something original to his projects!

“And then I read the script, and it’s got a really cool fresh tone to it. It is the first zombie movie of its kind in terms of the fact that its very funny, and that he cast a guy like Rob Corddry, a comedian, which is not the safe choice, or even the obvious choice to take because you wouldn’t picture Rob Corddry in a zombie movie! But, he ‘kills it’, he’s so funny, and I don’t know if a lot of people know this but he comes from a theater background and he is a very serious actor and so during the parts where he has to be serious, he ‘kills that too’ so those are some of the main reasons I was drawn to the project.

“In this film is the first time we get to sympathize with the zombies, they’re always the protagonist and I give the main actor Nicholas Hoult a lot of credit because his role has the typical killing humans, eating their brains, and you’re routing for him while he’s doing all this crazy stuff and so inherently this person has to be very likable, and Nicholas Hoult was able to bring that dichotomy to the role! It’s a very tough role because his character has this huge journey without being able to say much, its all his body language. I’m sure a lot of actors would come in a play it a little bit over the top and it would feel too silly. Nick is so subtle, and everything comes across in his movements and he really just grounds the movie, and the whole thing is on his shoulders because if his character doesn’t work, the whole movie doesn’t work. He was such an inspiration for the entire cast to give our very best in each of our roles forming a true ensemble climate for the film!” - Dave Franco

Actor Lucas Till (‘All Superheroes Must Die’)

By Joseph J. Airdo

In “All Superheroes Must Die,”Lucas Till plays Ben a.k.a Cutthroat - one of four superheroes who find themselves abducted by their arch nemesis and forced to compete in a series of challenges in order to save an abandoned town full of kidnapped innocent civilians.

“Cutthroat is super fast. He is a slim guy, he talks fast, he is short-fused and he has ability with knives. But he was basically a sidekick. Whether you read comics or not, you are familiar with these relationships between the leader and the sidekick and the love interest and her affair with maybe someone else. And that is not even superheroes. That is just life. Ben filled the role of a sidekick who could never get past being a sidekick despite how much he really respected his leader. It is kind of the classic Batman/Robin/Nightwing thing.” - Lucas Till

Things you expect from a show about a guy who goes in full throttle to fix failing hotels: scenes of dirty rooms, bad service and hopeless business practices followed by wondrous makeovers. What you don’t expect is to get choked up.

But that happened to Anthony Melchiorri every time he went to some far-flung location to shoot an episode of his Travel Channel series “Hotel Impossible,” currently in its second season. The straight-talking New Yorker gets caught up in the personal stories of the hotel owners he meets, many of whom open their hearts to him and are clearly desperate for his help.

“I never in a million years thought it would be this emotional,” Melchiorri says. “There’s not a show I haven’t cried on; there’s not a show where people haven’t cried. ... They know I’m the real deal. So they’re like, ‘Oh, my God, this guy’s really here to help me,’ and that becomes emotional. And sometimes they get emotional because I say something they don’t like, and they want to take my head off. We go in so openhearted, with such an appreciation and respect for what they’re allowing us to do.”

Melchiorri revisits past projects in ‘Hotel impossible: after anthony’

TWO ‘BREAKFAST IN BED’ TREATS SURE TO GET YOU OFF THE COUCH AND OUT OF THE DOG HOUSE

So, you’re in trouble. Big trouble man. Woe is you, what in the world to do? Here’s what you do my dear sir. Decide to kick your stiff back to the curb and win her back the old fashioned way, through her stomach. A romantically creative “surprise” breakfast in bed, of course.

Sure to impress, one of the most memorable things a man can do in this situation is prepare an exotic breakfast and serve her in bed. Hopefully, she will welcome you back with open arms, and perhaps a nod from the head sending you back on your way for seconds. Just remember, “FS&FT” for love, peace and R&R! Fruit Smoothie and French Toast!!

Yes sir’ee man, the first thing to do is tease her palate with a fruit smoothie. Healthy and full of flavor, this one can’t miss. Get creative and

fruity, she’ll love you for it. And for the main course, French Toast. In France, it’s known as le pain perdu - the lost bread. Obviously it’s not really lost, but since you’ve lost your bed priveleges, breathe easy friend. There are all sorts of creative new twists

you can add to the mix with this old breakfast favorite. Super romantic and ridiculously delicious, there you have it my friend! Fill her full of these wonderful flavors – and kick that dog house to the curb for good.

Arizona, as most of us are now aware, is a fledgling among the international wine scene. As seemingly unlikely a wine destination Arizona is, there are many other regions around the world that are similarly beginning to take flight.

• Uruguay: While some are calling Uruguay the Bordeaux of South America, its shining product—and national wine—is made from Tannat, a highly tannic grape. And while Uruguay’s wines may be relatively new to the rest of the world, Tannat has been produced there since the nineteenth century—so long, in fact, that Uruguay has developed its own clones, especially suited to its climate.

• Morocco: Though wine is rumored to have been produced here since before Christ, Morocco is just beginning to hit the international market. Its most widely-planted wine grape, Cinsault, does incredibly well here as it does in the south of France, owing to its drought tolerance.

Finding Cinsault in Morocco is not surprising either, as this area is a former French colony.

• Michigan: For many, any mention of Michigan conjures images of a post-apocalyptic hell-scape, but Michigan is quite a majestic and sophisticated wine region. Situated along the 45th parallel—the same as Bordeaux and Burgundy—Michigan is producing some world-class Gewürztraminer and Riesling along the northwestern banks of its lower peninsula, near Traverse City.

• Croatia: Known for its Malvasia and Zinfandel—known there as CrljenakKaštelanski—the Dalmatian Coast along the Adriatic Sea produces some of Croatia’s finest wines. White wines produced in Croatia bring out the region’s full terrior when paired with its oysters and world-renowned tuna.

It’s that time of year again, the time when we are on the verge of Spring, after what we would consider chilly winter months of 50s and 60s (don’t tell that to the people in the Midwest or the East Coast, they may not like us very much). So what outside event kick-starts some fun for us Arizonans? It’s the event that brings people together for days full of golf, fun, beer and parties: The PGA Tour.

Now we all know during the day the PGA Tour is golf, players of the sport and, well, more golf. Just like every other sporting event, beer is a given to be sold, but did you know that wine is actually a big part of it as well? Neither did I! Yep, Beringer, the oldest operating winery in Napa Valley, is the official wine of the PGA Tour. In 2010, Beringer signed the partnership with the PGA, and in 2011 they extended their agreement another four years.

In fact, they’ve hired golfer Justin Leonard, 12-time PGA Tour winner, as their official Ambassador of the brand.

So this year, if you are planning on going to the PGA Waste Management Tour here in Phoenix, and you’re a wino, you’re now in luck! I know I personally was excited to try and snag some tickets to attend, but now I must say, I definitely can’t wait to be standing at the greens, wine in hand, cheering on those hard-working play-ers for that hole-in-one.

Be sure to check out the PGA Waste Management Phoenix Open Tour January 30th-February 5th. PGATour.com/Tournaments/Waste-Manage-ment-Phoenix-Open.html

The best kept secret in the world of wine is, ironically, hidden inside the doors of one of Arizona’s most popu-lar and celebrated resorts.

Wright’s at the iconic Arizona Biltmore may be a long-time staple of the upscale dining scene here in town. However, most people don’t realize that just last year, the venue underwent a complete transfor-mation, blending the timeless tastes that made the restaurant famous with new faces and ideas – including in-novative ideas for the wine program.

For more than 20 years, and far before they were considered the norm, Wright’s took part in luxurious winemaker dinners. Now in its 23rd season and hot off the heels of the facelift, they have upped the ante, and then some.

First, each of the four-to-six course dinners start with a grand reception in the similarly remodeled Wright’s Bar, which still shines with the same Frank Lloyd Wright colors and designs but now even cleaner and brighter. Hyde’s Jeweler’s joins in the fun with an eye-popping assortment of diamonds, sapphires, pearly, rubies and daily baubles while sparkling wines and pre-dinner varietals are

passed along with themed hors d’oeuvres.

Once dinner begins, each guest is made to feel like he/she has her own personal dining concierge, working to make every diner’s whim a real-ity while giving a mouth-watering description of each impending course and its perfect wine pairing.

During dinner, both the winemaker and chef address the diners via toasts, lively stories about the history of the featured winery as well as Wright’s it-self, and even one-on-one time at each table.

The next dinner will take place on Thursday, February 7th and will include an up close and personal pair-ing dinner with Rombauer Vineyards in Napa Valley, which is known for its Chardonnays, Zins, Merlots and Cabernets. Following that will be a two-night celebration of all things Cakebread in March and then the welcoming of Frog’s Leap in April, whose lineage traces back to the 1800s in California. This is an eter-nity in the relatively young world of West Coast wine.

All dinners cost $95++ per person, and a season pass to all wine dinners is available for a discounted price. For more information, please visit www.wrightsbiltmore.com.

It has been no secret that for the past few years craft beer has been an exploding trend across America. Everywhere you look there are new breweries and craft beer bars opening up. It used to be that ten to twenty tap handles was considered a lot. Now, we routinely see fifty handle bars featuring “No crap on tap” signs and bar owners that eight years ago couldn’t even spell IPA are scrambling to find the most flavorful of the heavily hopped beers. Given all that, it is no wonder that craft beer has grown consistently at double digit rates over the past five years and is well over 16% this year. However, another beverage is coming along for the ride. A beverage that proves , as Bruce Springsteen wrote, “Everything dies, baby that’s a fact, but maybe everything that dies some day comes back…” Such is the case with hard cider.

Hard cider, alcoholic fruit juice, usually from apples, is not a new creation. In fact it has been around ever since someone accidentally let apple juice sit around too long allowing the sugars to ferment from the natural yeasts in the air. Exactly

when that happened is unclear. There are records of apple trees along the Nile River delta as early as 1300 BC but nothing to say if cider was produced. The earliest known record of cider dates back to 55 BC when the Romans arrived in England. They found the residents of Kent drinking a cider like beverage and Julius Caesar immediately embraced this new found beverage. Cider began to really become popular around the time of the Norman Conquest, 1066 AD, when orchards were planted specifically to grow cider apples, farm workers were paid in cider and monasteries were producing a strong, spiced cider which they sold to the public. Who ever thought that there might be Trappist Ciders?

American history tells a different tale. Early English settlers introduced cider to America by bringing with them seeds for cultivating cider apples. During the colonial period, grains did not thrive well and were costly to import. On the other hand, apple orchards were plentiful, making apples cheap and easily obtainable.

As a result, hard cider quickly became one of America’’s most popular beverages. Consumption of cider increased steadily during the eighteenth century, due in part to the efforts of the legendary Johnny Appleseed, who planted many apple trees in the Midwest. American cider started to wane in popularity when the German immigrants of the mid 1800’s brought with them recipes and methods for brewing beer that allowed them to set up large breweries and produce a large amount to sell relatively inexpensively. That coupled with the early rumblings of the Temperance Movement slowly led to the demise of hard cider in this country. Prohibition all but killed it off.

Cider was still made in very small batches at home. Typically this was accomplished by allowing regular apple juice or non-alcoholic cider to ferment naturally, much as the early ciders were made. This beverage, sometimes freeze distilled and called Applejack, was an alternative to the bathtub gin of Prohibition and

continued to be enjoyed in individual households. However improved evaporative distillation methods which removed the impurities that freeze distillation left in, ensured that Applejack would never replace more traditional spirits.

Cider sort of plodded along through the years until the craft beer movement started in the mid 1970’s with the opening of the New Albion Brewery by pioneer brewer Jack McAuliffe. Slowly, as old boundaries were pushed in the production of beer, brewers and consumers started looking for different flavors and naturally looked to the past to update and hopefully improve nostalgic recipes. Such was the case for cider. While cider had remained in production in Europe, mostly England and France, Americans no longer had a cider tradition so they created new brands, ones that had more commercial opportunity then the more expensive imports. The wheels of the cider industry were slowly turning again. Apple at first and then some creativity introduced other

TIME TO TOUR SO HOP-ON NOW! BY “KING” JAMES SWANN

Hello again craft beer lovers, today let’s chat about ARIZONA BREWERY TOURS, a new company here in the valley dedicated to delivering you safe and soundly to the coolest breweries and craft beer hot spots that the Phoenix area has to offer.

Founded this year by John “Hoppymoto” Alvarado and family, the company takes you to two or more Arizona breweries in about three to four hours. You will learn about types of beer, the beer making process, the breweries, food pairing and much more. You will also enjoy a behind-the scenes tour and a meal on your trip. By the way, this is a social tour so you can expect to meet new people and get to know them over the course of the trip. Your crew and driver will point out beer landmarks and share local history along the way. I was fortunate to accompany John and his crew on the maiden tour and let me tell you, this was a night of festivities I shall not soon forget!

Saturday and Sunday afternoons, “HOP-ON” tours take you to three different breweries where you will enjoy lunch and tours at each brewery. Week day “Barrel Aged” tours are mid-day affairs geared towards a slightly older crowd. On this tour you will see two breweries that feature barrel aging programs and enjoy an early supper paired with the perfect pint or three. Finally, Friday night is where the party is! Be prepared to get loose as you travel all over the valley to visit three different breweries, have dinner and truly get VIP Treatment at each destination. By the way, I almost forgot to mention that you can drink on the bus between destinations!

For more information go to azbrew.com or call 480.382.HOPS. How cool is that?

Until Next Week, Cheers!

includes a pear cider of course, but also a blackberry pear and an apricot pear cider. This creativity has become their hallmark and has extended well beyond fruit. How about a cider made with Trappist beer yeast and a little organic maple syrup? They’ve got that and it is called The Saint. Brewed with stout yeast and unfiltered…Lansdowne. Sake yeast and organic rice syrup…they’ve got Cho-Tokkyu. They even pay homage to the English

fruits into the mix. Pear, Peach and Raspberry ciders were all produced, although in truth, many of these were just apple ciders with flavoring added.

These beverages typically had one thing in common, they were sweet, sometimes cloyingly so. They became another Zima like beverage, not beer, but close enough for people to drink and enjoy with beer drinkers. Still the popularity grew, and folks that had enjoyed flavored malt beverages like Zima started to flock to ciders and brewers found that ciders blended well with certain beers allowing the flavors in the beer to take some of the edge off the sweetness of the cider and the fruit in the cider to enhance the beer. Stout and cider has become

a popular combination.

One company in particular started looking at different ways to produce cider, and perhaps find flavors that went beyond sweet. Inspired by the English who make drier ciders and serve them over ice Crispin Ciders was born. Based in Minneapolis but with their cidery located in Northern California wine country, Crispin has re-invented cider once again. Their flagship cider is dry and served over ice. It has a pronounced difference from most American and even Canadian ciders. But that is not all they do. This is a creative bunch and experimentation is natural. Of course they have a fruit cider lineup, sold under the Fox Barrel label which

Nof cider. The important thing to remember about cider is that it tastes great and is a refreshing alternative to beer. So, occasionally, when your palate may tire of hops and grains and such, reach for a cider. Try something different, blend your cider

with Breckenridge Vanilla Porter or Blue Moon, or try a cider cocktail. The American craft beer movement has depended on people searching for new flavors and unsatisfied with the status quo. Ciders help open up that world of taste just a little more.

for authenticity. Named after the original Jaguar automobile factory, this beer comes in British Racing Green cans designed to make you feel like you are across the pond, as they say.

With all this creativity, it is no wonder that pundits have dubbed them the “Dogfish Head of Cider.” But wait, there is more. Just as Dogfish Head comes up with seemingly crazy ideas for beer, Crispin brings the outlandish to the cider world and makes it work. Desert Noir was created especially for an Arizona based beer event, but this combination of cider aged in whiskey barrels and cider aged in red wine oak barrels, and then sweetened up just a little with Agave

Nectar and Prickly Pear syrup was so good that it was released nationally. Other special releases have included a straight bourbon barrel aged cider called The Jacket and one called The Union, created to celebrate the recent royal wedding. It is a combined fermentation, a marriage, of equal amounts of pure apple & pear juices using authentic French champagne yeast, with organic honey and kissed with a touch of rose water. This year during Beer Week look for two ciders inspired by the movie, “The Princess Bride,” As You Wish and Prepare to Die.Crispin even has a complete menu of cocktails and beer blends at CrispinCider.com.

“you never know what you might find until you

actually walk out the door”

I feel like Fountain Hills is a place that a lot of people don’t care to venture out to, but there are actually some really cool spots out there. Saddle Bronc Grill is not exactly anything fancy, but definitely a good time. They have happy hour seven days a week from 3:30-6:30 with: dollar off drafts, house wine, and well, along with half off select appetizers. However, they have awesome daily specials on top of the happy hour which I like more. They have a wing Wednesday but it’s actually on a Monday! Ha! A taco Tuesday with roasted white fish tacos with the chefs’ special sauce for $5, wine Wednesday with half off bottles of wine and you can play poker!! All you need is a cigar and you would be good to go. On Fridays they do fish fry, corona beer battered cod for only $10. This place may seem a little random, well very random, but it is a lot of fun to hang out at especially if you want to try somewhere new in a little town. Besides, Fountain Hills have one of the world’s largest man made fountains! 11056 N. Saguaro Blvd. Fountain Hills, AZ 85268

Sure, it’s terrific landing a TV show, and with your best friend, no less. And it’s wonderful making it in the notoriously tough field of comedy.

But the best perk, say Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer of “Nikki & Sara Live!” airing Tuesdays on MTV, is having stylists.

“We get styled, which is the most amazing thing about my job right now,” Glaser says of their fashion gurus, Alana Kelen and Dani Charlton. “Out of everything I am doing – I have a comedy show. I get to do comedy with my best friend. I cannot say enough about having someone else pick out clothes that look

good on you.“I have never worked with another stylist,” Glaser says. “I know what I like, but I

walk in a store and get overwhelmed by choices.”

‘nikki & Sara live!’

The Bold and The BeauTiful Eric sympathized with Taylor over her hurt feelings over Stephanie’s decision. With Steffy away, Hope got together with Liam, whose loyalties were tested. Bill confided his feelings for Brooke and Katie to Justin. Donna and Pam were suspicious of Taylor’s hanging around Eric. Rick annoyed Thomas, whose decision to leave Los Angeles for Paris hurt Taylor. Marcus and Maya almost ran into each other at the farmers market, a near-catastrophe for Dayzee.

days of our lives Nicole and Marlena each took Kristen to task for causing a rift between Brady and his family. Daniel pre-empted Chloe’s attempt to move back in with him. Hope encouraged Jennifer to fight Chloe’s fire with her own. Nicole planted top-secret Titan files from Brady’s computer on Kristen’s and eventually got found out. Marlena confessed to Brady she tried to set up Kristen. Brady confronted Kristen after realizing she lied about the torn-up note. Gabi granted Rafe’s request to postpone her wedding. Billie told Kate she was leaving town. Hope was evasive when Rafe questioned her about Bo’s extended absence. Brady and Kristen had words and intimacy after he confronted her over lying about her note to Marlena.

General hospiTal Michael and AJ confronted Tracy with proof she used mob money to finance ELQ. Anna took over the search for Emma and issued an Amber Alert. Felix persuaded Sabrina and Elizabeth to spice up their love lives. Lulu overheard Spinelli telling Max and Milo about his New Year’s Eve tryst with Maxie. Grieving Kristina lashed out at Connie and was arrested for assault. Sabrina and Britt had words over Emma. AJ hired Duke for ELQ. AJ and Michael reveled in their supposed conquest at ELQ, but a story in the Sun darkened their moods. Alexis pushed Sonny to ask Connie to not press charges, and Michael and Starr also weighed in.

The younG and The resTless Chelsea told Sharon that Newman Enterprises and the need for Victor’s approval would always come first with Adam. Adam told Chelsea he still wanted to work things out. Victoria tried to get Adam to give back the company, and he refused. Billy worried that Jack might have a relapse. Leslie scurried out of the athletic club before Congressman Wheeler saw her. Leslie told Neil she didn’t want to live in the past as they shared a kiss. Wheeler asked Victor to get Avery to drop the Innocence Foundation case. Michael told Lauren he didn’t want Fen to be guilty, and she left in anger.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a big football game down in New Orleans on Sunday.

That’s highly unlikely, especially if you’re a viewer of CBS, which for the past week has put on an all-out blitz of programming related to Super Bowl XLVII from the Big Easy. The eye network has deployed its news, sports and entertainment divisions at what it’s dubbed CBS Super Bowl Park at Jackson Square in the French Quarter, offering reports on what’s been happening there the past week, ranging from night life and celebrities in New Orleans to the recovery from 2005’s Hurricane Katrina and, of course, what the teams involved have been up to.

So by now, you should be up to speed on all things New Orleans. As for the game itself, the clash between the Baltimore Ravens and San

Francisco 49ers airs the evening of Sunday, Feb. 3, from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, with Jim Nantz and Phil Simms on the call for CBS.

The broadcast day from New Orleans begins with “Face the Nation,” followed by three specials, “Road to the Super Bowl,” an NFL Films montage of the sights and sounds of the 2012 season; “New Orleans: Let the Good Times Roll,” in which host Wynton Marsalis takes a musical tour of the city; and “Phil Simms All-Iron Team: Super Bowl Edition,” in which Simms and Nantz highlight some of the greatest moments in Super Bowl history.

Then in midafternoon, the game is the thing with the pregame show “The Super Bowl Today,” in which host Greg Gumbel and analysts James Brown, Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher give their takes on what to expect. That takes viewers up to kickoff.

Add in such technological advances as super-high-speed cameras and split-screen mosaics that can offer up to six different camera angles on a single screen, and it’s clear CBS is going all out for the occasion.

“It is a special event. We know that,” says Simms at a recent event for media at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York.

Simms, who will be doing his seventh Super Bowl call Sunday, won two Super Bowls as the quarterback of the New York Giants. He recalls his first as a player, against the Denver Broncos in 1987.

“It’s a great moment. It’s the greatest thing you can do as an athlete, I think,” he says. “You stand there (in the tunnel during introductions), and you wait, and you go, ‘Wow, this is everything I thought it was going to be.’

Jim Nantz (left) and Phil Simms call the action from New Orleans at Super Bowl XLVII Sunday on CBS.
