THE HAPPY PET PROJECT

PRESENTATION

The Holiday Suites Arnis Street is a luxurious boutique hotel located in the centre of Athens. After a complete reconstruction it reopened its doors in April 2017 as a pet friendly hotel. Simply accepting pets was not in accordance to the high quality of service the hotel provides to its guests. Therefore, The Happy Pet Project was introduced, a concept for VIP treatment of furry friends.

• During the Check-In process, we offer water. Because a pet might be thirsty and deserves only the best.

• In addition, your pet will receive a welcome hamper, which includes a toy, a treat and clean-up bags.

The owner receives a full guide with information regarding important and useful services • All the Emergency numbers ( Vet and an

emergency 24/7 clinic)• Grooming services• Pet transfer• Dog-walking areas• Pet sitters. This is a very important part of our

service, as pets are not permitted by law in any restaurants and there are many restrictions in most public spaces.

In the room we provide a pet pad, and bowls for food and water.

If the pet is a cat, we offer a litter box and sand.

At the reception desk there will always be a complete pet first aid kit, designed by a specialist veterinarian and available to anyone who needs, it at any time.

Upon departure, we deliver an official pet certificate of stay

All fees from pet accommodation will be donated to the Greek Pet Charity Stray.

The idea to implement the Happy Pet Project originated from the philosophy that governs all our services, we provide high quality service, personal genuine care and we strive for perfection. Since pets are our guests, their needs are treated with the same high standards, making the stay for pets and pet owners as comfortable and as hassle free as possible.

Another important motivator was that none of the hotels in the area of Athens provides similar services. This could serve as our competitive advantage. Yet, we would prefer other hotels to follow our example and make Athens a pet friendly destination.

With our initiative, we hope to put hotel pet policy in the limelight. We hope this will create awareness and establish a pet acceptance policy. We hope that this will change people’s perception of pets and domestic animals. This is even more imperative in Greece, as there are currently 3 million strays and due to the economic crisis, this number is rapidly increasing.

By leading the way and through marketing we will raise awareness.

Part of embracing a pet friendly attitude as a company is that pets are allowed in the offices of employees that have no direct contact with our guests.

COMMUNICATION

IMPLEMENTATION The implementation of our Happy Pet project included the purchase of the equipment for the pets. The pet pad, the litter box, the sand, the bowls, the emergency kit, the cost of printing guides and certificates of stay and the welcome humper added up to less than 500€.

Our marketing strategy for promoting the Happy Pet Project, included a social media campaign and a collaboration with the only site that handles bookings with pet requests for hotels in Greece. We are still promoting our new Service with a total budget of 3000€. However, introducing an innovative and much needed service put us in the position to act as ambassadors of the service and helped us achieve more visibility, than what our budget would allow us.

If our hotel seems small in scale to achieve an impact, please consider that it is owned and operated by Moussamas Bros, which also owns and operates Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre and Holiday Inn in Athens –Attica Ave. Airport West, making it a leading company in the five-star hotel

sector in Athens.

There are plans to introduce the Happy Pet Project in all the properties of our company, in the hope that more properties in Athens will follow our lead.

CONCEPTION

For perfectly implementing our Happy Pet Project, we first researched online for hotels offering similar services internationally. We also consulted the award winning Greek start up the Woof Club, which specializes in providing pet services in resorts around Greece. Of course, we consulted with our legal department and a specialized vet.

WITHOUT VISION, EVEN THE MOST FOCUSED PASSION IS A DEVICE WITHOUT A BATTERY

The Happy Pet Project is innovative in its conception for the Greek HotelIndustry. However, the element that distinguishes from other similar servicesinternationally is the social impact that aims to achieve. From the engagementof the staff through the donations to the Charity Stray, as well as the publicityaimed not only to our customers but to other hoteliers makes it bigger thansimply providing premium pet services.

The Happy Pet Project was heartily welcomed from its implementation. A very simple reference on the Facebook page of the hotel had 2,7K reactions and 122 shares!

EVALUATION

In the rooms of the guests with pet , we added a simple questionnaire to measure their satisfaction with the Happy Pet project. All the guests with pets gave glorious reviews to our service and outlined how complete it is.The guest satisfaction assessment through the questioners will continue, to ensure that our services are always up to date.

What remains to be seen is how many other hotels will follow our lead.
