The 2011 TTFCA clinic wrapped up this weekend [January 7-8,

2011] with coaches, presenters and sponsors alike returning to homes

and towns through-out the State of Texas energized, inspired and

equipped to begin the new track & field season. Presenters were all

simply outstanding in their presentation and ability to share techniques

and secrets of success in events that spanned the gamut, from sprints &

relays, hurdles, distance training to jumps & throws. There was some-

thing for every coach at every level. We also celebrated this year’s TTFCA Hall of Fame inductees, some

of track & fields most heralded individuals - Thane Baker, Michael

Carter, Clyde Hart, Shirley Crowe and Tom Tellez and honored coach-

es Barry Briner & Sherita Jackson and athletes Mark Jackson & Lau-

ren Blackburn. We were once again inspired by their stories and ex-

pression of thanks, too, as it seemed they always held great affection

and appreciation for their high school coach. It reminded us not only

of great things that can be achieved but also that our role as coaches is

one of service, not only to the student-athlete but to the sport itself. We are excited about the TTFCA and the tools and opportunities the

association provides to coaches. We have developed a good working

relationship with UIL executives Traci Neely and Sheila Henderson

and will be an all-important line of communication between coaches

and the UIL. We will also work with and form new alliances with the

SPC and TAPPS and other officials organizations and national associa-

tions with the goal of having unified representation for all coaches in

Texas. To that end, please let us know how our coaches association

can help you. Have a great year, and best of luck in the 2011 indoor &

outdoor seasons.
