THE GREG COCKERILL BAND RELEASES THEIR DEBUT ‘SUMMERTIME AND HEARTACHE’ The When: Thursday, October 16 th , 2008 8:00pm TORONTO CD RELEASE The Where: The Dakota Tavern 249 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, ON Additional Ontario tour dates available at www.gregcockerill.com www.gregcockerill.com www.myspace.com/gregcockerill The long awaited debut from The Greg Cockerill Band has arrived. ‘Summertime and Heartache’ is the culmination of frontman Greg’s love for music and years of sideman work in jazz, country, folk, rock and cover bands. Wrangling up Albertan talents and comrades Sam Masterton (lap slide), Pat Phillips (drums), Geoff Hilhorst (keyboards), and Kaley Kinjo (bass), as well as Ontarian David Baxter (guitar/mandolin) Greg finally decided to take his guitar and his warm ‘whiskey-soaked’ vocals into the studio to lay down some of his own tracks. Crafting his songs using such influences as Mark Knopfler, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and the talent of a plethora of musicians from Alberta, Greg has woven together a beautiful and seamless record of driving, rhythmic rock with a rootsy approach. The songs have a sing along feeling that gets toes tapping, and while performing live, Greg and the band fill the dance floor with fans at every opportunity. ‘Summertime and Heartache’ was recorded at The Beach Studios in Calgary and produced by David Gavan Baxter who also appears on the record. Mixed at The Rogue Studios and mastered at The Laquer Channel, both in Toronto, 11 of the 13 tracks were written and composed by Greg himself. Coming onto the scene with a Music Degree from Humber College, majoring in composition and performance in jazz guitar, Greg Cockerill has went on to play almost every other genre with Calgary bands such as Matt Masters, Tom Philips, Dr. Z and the Boys and the Blue Munx, expanding his love for music at the same time as his technical prowess. Confessing he’s never been happier playing, Greg is overjoyed to be releasing his first collection of unique tunes at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto, for your listening pleasure.
