PREFACE

The Association of Shalaki – TAS India is active, unique and registered

organization of Ayurvedic specialists of Shalakya Tantra. TAS organizes

national, international and state level conferences, seminars, workshops, CMEs

etc regularly to provide a common platform to present research work of the

members and to gain knowledge from senior shalakis. TAS also aims to impart

research activity. To meet the aim TAS organizes different workshops time to

time.

First of all, we have consentrated to establish gradations of diseases of

Shalakya Tantra as a part of research activity. There was lacking of established

and published gradations – scoring pattern in the field of Ayurved including

Shalakya Tantra so to meet the aim TAS has organized three days national

workshop to establish & standardize research protocols in Shalakya Tantra

during July 2017. In this workshop experts from all over India participated and

at the end of the workshop gradations were established. The established

gradations were then sent to senior shalakis to review and for their

suggestions. The gradations were then edited according to suggestions

received.

At this moment I am very much happy to publish the gradations for

Netra Rog as a first step in the form of e-book namely “GRADATIONA OF

SHALAKYA TANTRA PART – 1 (NETRA ROG)”. This is the first time in the history

particularly in the field of Shalakta Tantra that gradations of all the diseases are

established and published. It is really a proud moment for all the members of

TAS. I hope these gradations will be very much useful for all researchers in the

field of shalakya Tantra. Now onward gradations for Netra will be known and

can be used as “TAS Gradations of Netra Rog”.

It is true that research is on-going process. These gradations are also not

final. I invite suggestions with logic or justification from experts. Please send

your suggestions on [email protected] I assure TAS will accept and include it

in second edition.

INTRODUCTION

As we know that in the field of research, gradations - scoring pattern has

very important role. By this tool efficacy of medicine/therapy can be assessed.

Symptoms, in general, are very difficult to understand as they are noticed by

patients only. Patients are not quite capable to express its intecity or its

severity. So it is very difficult to understand, to assess and to evaluate

magnitude of the symptoms like Shool (pain), Ruja, Tod, Kandu, Dah etc. It

should be objectified. In general, Visual Analogue Scale (V. A. S.) is used for this

purpose. Here, in this book it is also suggested. To understand V.A.S. please

refer figure given below. It is self-explanatory however basic information to

understand it is given here. “0” stands for no Shool (pain), no Kandu (Itching),

no Dah (Burning pain) etc. while “10” stands for extreme point of Shool (pain)

etc.

To understand symptoms like Shool, Ruja etc. other objective

parameters are also established during workshop which are also suggested in

this book. One can also refer this.

Shalakya Tantra mainly described in Sushrut Samhita so all the diseases

of Shalakya Tantra are referred from Sushrut Samhita and it is mentioned as

“(सु.)” but for the same disease if Vagbhatta has mentioned extra sign or

symptom they are also included for gradation by mentioning it like “(अ.ह्र.)”

under heading of the same disease. While there are some diseases which are

mentioned for same disease but with different name by Vagbhatta are also

included separately mentioning it like “कुम्बी (अ.ह्र.)”. There are some another

diseases which are not mentioned in Sushrut Samhita but mentioned by

Vagbhatta are also included for gradation as separate disease like “जलास्रव

(अ.ह्र.)”. All the diseases according their Sthan main code is given. For example

code number “1” is given to Sandhi Gat Rog and sign & symptom of the disease

is indicated with sub code. For example “1.1” is given to disease पुयालस. Means

पुयालस is the first disease of Sandhi Gat Rog and like wise for all other diseases.

To establish gradations if specific parameters are considered, mentioned

in column of “Reamrks” while if there any particular meaning of Sign and

Symptom is mentioned seperatelly.
