THE GOOD SAMARITAN
Fruitfulness on the front line.Ministering Grace and Love. The Good Samaritan – Luke 10: 25-37
STARTS WITH ENDS WITH
What should I do to inherit eternal life?
Go, do likewise.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. And love your neighbour as yourself.
Deuteronomy 6:5 & Leviticus 19:18
THE PRIESTReasons/excuses.He did not want to get involved.
Likewise the Levite.
THE SAMARITAN(The Jews had no dealings with the
Samaritans.)
Love in action.Dresses his wounds – wine to disinfect and oil to
soothe.Takes him to safety.Pays for his care.He will return. His caring continues.
COMPASSION
A sympathy or pity for others that makes one want to help.
COMPASSION EXPECTS NOTHING IN RETURN
It’s because there is a need, not because the recipient is worthy, nor because there may be some payback.
COMPASSION FEELS SOMETHING
It stirs us up.
COMPASSION DOES SOMETHING
James 2:15-17The Samaritan took him to a place of
safety.
COMPASSION COSTS SOMETHING
He paid the equivalent of 2 day’s wages.
He was prepared to give more.
Jesus gave everything that love could give.
COMPASSION SPEAKS OF JESUS AND OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM.The gentle heart of Jesus in a suffering
world.
We become like the one we spend most time with.
FINAL THOUGHTSOur neighbour is anyone we encounter. We may need to set aside our prejudices. We may encounter people with problems,
difficulties, lonliness, unhappiness, low self esteem etc.
One small gesture, one kind word.
Prepare for the event – “Lord, use me today – make me a blessing.”
