Take care and stay safe everyone. HILL END PUBLIC SCHOOL Reading Rules! Back into the swing of regular school life and of course our focus on essential English and Maths skills. It goes without saying that reading is of course an essential skill in life, and a skill that needs to be supported and encour- aged, not only at school but just as importantly at home also. Reading is a fundamental skill that has a profound impact on our lives, and it begins at an early age. When you read aloud to a child, you open the door to new worlds, new perspectives and new opportunities to grow. Every child de- serves to experience the benefits reading brings. Learning to read is a vital part of learning in general. It triggers brain development, enhances thinking skills and builds self-confidence. It’s easy to take our ability to read for granted but it didn’t just happen. Helping a child learn to read takes patience, per- sistence and praise. As a teacher I know the rewards of helping my students master reading. As a parent that person- al reward of helping your own child to read must simply be wonder- ful. It is a gift for life. Make reading with your child a part of your daily home environment. Music & Art This week we welcomed Mrs Smyth back to our school with her focus on creativity, music and art. The children enjoyed creating some autumn artworks, worked on a new rhythm item and sang some of their fa- Term 2 Week 3 14th May 2020 vourite songs. It was great to hear the school full of music and singing again after being so quiet without students. 150 th Celebrations Planning and work for the schools 150 th celebrations is well underway. Part of the celebrations include the publication of a special book to celebrate the history of our school. I am grateful to everyone near and far who is help- ing and contributing.     Hill End Health Clinic News

    The Hill End Health Clinic is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 1pm-3pm. Flu shots are

    available for adults during this time. The next GP clinic is Tuesday 2nd June. Could I please ask

    at this time that you book an appointment as there will be no walk up appointments.

    Thanks for your patience. Help stop the spread of COVID-19, maintain social distancing and

    please don’t visit anyone if you have the slightest cough or sniffle. There is a NSW call centre if

    you are worried about visiting restrictions, it is 1300 006 005, this is a 24hr service. If you are

    It was wonderful to wel-

    come Mrs Smyth back at

    school this week. All our

    students were very excited

    to see her. After morning

    lessons Mrs Smyth taught a

    derful artwork was also

    produced. Well done!

    Public School we would love to hear from you! As part of our 150th

    birthday coming up at the end of the year, a book is being produced to

    commemorate the occasion. We are looking for any important events,

    presentations etc that you may have a photo of. So please check out

    your photos, you never know what you may have hidden away…..

    Tectonic plates crashing into each other, creat-

    ing earthquakes! (lattice biscuits and cream were

    used to show how the tectonic plates move)

    As part of these lessons students video-

    conferenced with students from Glen Alice

    Public School. Students love learning about this

    fascinating topic with Mrs Rayner and Mr G.

    2020 is the year for our 150th Anniversary Celebrations

    to be held on Saturday 7th November.

    We will be holding an Open Day at the school, including a BBQ lunch.

    For those interested, a dinner will be held at the Hill End Lodge in the evening,

    this will incur a charge, the cost for dinner will be

    published when prices are confirmed.

    Past students, teachers, principals and parents are invited

    to join us in celebrating this great event.
